We are a British family living full time in Ax-les-Thermes. Having had a holiday home in Ax for many years we decided to leave the UK and set-up a holiday rentals business in France. We love this area of France and will be delighted to welcome you to Ax.
|Year property purchased||2012|
|Why this location?||Outside of France Ax-les-Thermes is a relatively unknown jewel in the Pyrenees. It is home to the hottest natural spa baths (77c) and in winter has a gondala to acces the ski station Ax-3-Domaines.
The town itself offers many facilities for its size, with many restaurants adorning it's cobbled streets and a thriving market on Saturdays and Tuesdays (also Thursdays June-Sept).
Year round there are many activities and attractions. Examples include, downhill skiing, cross coutry skiing, thermal baths, caves, wolf sanctuary,moutaineering, biking, outdoor swimming pools and lakes, climbing/moutaineering all abilities, horse riding, hiking, river kayaking.
Keen cyclists will recognise the area for some of the surrounding cols which feature regularly in the Tour de France. Repeat visitors often go further afield to also do duty free shopping (Andorra 20km) and discover the Catalonia region of Spain (30km).
Road access from the UK is long but extremely easy.
|Unique benefits of property||This apartment is in the town centre of Ax, a mere 100m from the gondala. Rare in the town it offers both a private garden and an adjoining garage.|
The Grand Cafe restaurant is extremely popular with both locals and tourists for its friendly service, good value simple set menus eg. steak, dessert 12,50€.
A large open restaurant providing good ambience all year round.
The 'Maison des loups' a wolf sanctuary in the beautiful valley of Orlu 5km from Ax-les-Thermes. Popular family attraction housing several species of wolves in a natural forest setting. The sanctuary also has areas with farm animals (including feeding the goats) plus forest path walks with quizzes etc.
There are 2 restaurants at the entrance (plus snacks inside at peak season). The park is directly next to an accrobranche centre (tree trail type climbing), families may wish to do both for a full days action.
Visit the Col of Chioula for a day out with an amazing vista. The Col de Chioula 15 minutes from Ax offers gentle (and strenuous if desired) walks with amazing views. An easy 1hr mountain walk from there takes you to a refuge offering food /drink, or equally at Chioula itself laze away the day in the panoramic restaurant La Marmotte Toque, offering simple dishes plus also a few exotic options from one of the owners origins from the French Ile de Réunion. In the summer by the Col there is also the possibility of children's pony treks and tree climbing activities.
In winter Chioula is also open for cross country skiing and sledding.
