There are a number of challenging golf courses in the Gers and we have 2 excellent ones within a 20 minute drive. Chateau Pallanne and Auch Embats Golf Clubs; both are 18 hole courses with buggies available and excellent dining facilities.
The Gers is not generally recognised as a tourist area but yet this area of south west France literally abounds with places of interest to visit; castles, cloisters, abbeys, cathedrals and a host of historic attractions many within striking distance of Le Marcade. A detailed information pack is provided for your stay. Water is surprisingly quite a feature in the Gers with its many lakes and rivers, so fishing, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and waterskiing are all possible within a 35 minute drive from Le Marcade.
The village of Montesquiou, just 5 mins away, boasts one of the best local restaurants in the area. For the princely sum of 13 euros per head you can enjoy a 4-course lunch including wine. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and unlike some establishments, children’s differing needs can be catered for also - (AUBERGE AU VILLAGE open for lunch Tuesday to Friday and alternate Sundays).
10 minutes away in Monclar "LE BAROK" (open all day and evenings Tuesday to Sunday) is a super-friendly bar with a limited range of food but mostly English fare with truly excellent Burgers and pucker Fish and Chips. This is a very relaxed and laid back little place which the kids love and if you are a follower of Rugby this is a very popular spot on big match days with a satellite projected cinema screen.
10 minutes in the opposite direction is the village of Riguepeu and the AUBERGE DES ANGES. This is another delightful typical French restaurant serving 14 euro lunches and evening meals most days.
The "CAFÉ DES SPORTS" 10 minutes away at the centre of the historic village of Bassoues is open 24/7 365 days a year and is therefore a great stand-by for those last minute decisions. Sitting out in the pretty village square with good food, a glass of wine and enjoying the sun at the same time is a sheer delight. Again 4 course meals with wine will cost you 13 euros a head.
We all love a good market and France still maintains the traditional local markets in even the smallest communities. We are fortunate to be close to at least one for every day of the week. The list below gives a selection of the closest with the starred ones being the most highly recommended.
Freshly picked vegetables, locally produced pâté, cheeses, Foie Gras, wine, Armagnac, bread, croissants etc are all on display. Local artisans with displays of jewellery, carvings, paintings etc and tradespeople with clothing, hats, fabrics and kitchenware.
These markets are a social occasion with great atmosphere in the local cafes and restaurants which flourish on these market days.
