|Domaine Le Poteau Etoile||Self Catering||Flexible||2||4||1||Double sofa bed|
Etoile is a pretty little gite, perched on a hillside overlooking vineyards, woodland and the local church spire.
It has a roomy living space with 2 bedrooms. The beds are new and very comfortable. It is well equipped.
There is plenty of outdoor space with a big L shaped terrace to ensure plenty of shade on the hottest days.
Tucked away behind it is a 7m x 4m above ground pool.
It is an easy 10 -15 minute walk from the village of Castelnau D'Auzan where you will find a bakery, cafe, restaurant, general store, pharmacy, post office. The local businesses are small and very welcoming.
A 3 minute stroll along the edge of the vineyard will bring you to Domaine Le Poteau Campsite (small and lovely) where you are always welcome to join any of the social events we host.
Depending on the time of year, there are lots of fruit trees; apples, plums, pears, figs, quince, greengages and you are welcome to help yourself. We also have a small herb garden which you are also welcome to use.
There is a simple but immaculate and well equipped kitchen with hob, oven, microwave, fridge (freezer compartment), kettle, coffee maker and plenty of crockery, cooking utensils and glasses etc.
There is no washing machine but gite guests can use the campsite machine free of charge. We can also provide an iron and ironing table.
There is a comfortable living space with 2 large sofas (1 is a bed setee), coffee table, dining table.
There are 2 double bedrooms. One downstairs and one upstairs.
There is a toilet with a separate wash area and shower.
There is electric heating.
We keep it simple; games, books, swimming and relaxing. Wi-fi is available free at the campsite and there is a good 4G signal at the gite.
Etoile is perched on a small hillside and surrounded by a meadow style garden. It has a lovely large terrace with a dining table and chairs for 6.
We provide sun loungers, deck chairs, a hammock, bbq and a fire pit on request. There is plenty of space and it is very private.
There is parking next to the gite.
Etoile is suitable for families - although there is quite a steep staircase (gated).
Guests with limited mobility have indicated that it is fine for them as the bedroom downstairs allows for easy access to the toilet and shower. However, the gite is on a hill so there is a gravel path and 2 steps to the front door - therefore it is not wheelchair accessible.
There is a small 7m x 4m above ground outdoor pool which is near the gite but shared with the campsite.
We are both Scottish but lived near Newcastle for many years. We have always wanted to run our own business but needed to find something that would suit both of our skills (or lack of them ) and talents. Gites in one of the most beautiful regions of France ticked the boxes. We wanted to create a really welcoming, relaxing, special place at Le Poteau to ensure all our guests have the holiday they need and deserve.

|Why this location?||There is something about this little corner of rural France that is very special. The people are welcoming, the local produce is amazing, the landscape is unspoiled and beautiful. It is La France Profonde in all its glory. There is no heavy industry, agriculture is the main employer (including vineyards and a high percentage of Bio) The air is clean and the night skies are breathtaking. It is a landscape of meadows, forests and vineyards so a mecca for wildlife. It is not a tourist trap but there is plenty to see and do. If you haven't discovered The Gers yet - maybe it's time.|
|Unique benefits of property||Our best holidays tended to be a bit off the beaten track but what really made the difference was when we were made to feel really welcome and got to know the owners. We have tried to create a really great place for people to come on holiday; a place to relax in a calm, laid-back environment. The gites are in a lovely location with great views of vineyards, woodlands and the local church spire. They are in a large meadow and far enough apart to provide total privacy. We live nearby and are there if people want us. The gites are a vineyard away from our small campsite - far enough away to be totally independent but close enough to join in with social events and meet other holidaymakers if that's your thing. We have never been anywhere quite like it and all the feedback we have had has been incredibly positive so it seems to work!|
Every Thursday morning there is a fantastic market in our local town. The produce is of the highest quality and there are nice craft stalls as well. Definitely one of the best in the region.
A great little vineyard nearby. The owners are extremely welcoming and offer tours of the site plus a visit to the family museum which is just wonderful - quirky to say the least. There are load of other vineyards dotted all over within a 10km radius of Le Poteau and they offer tastings of wine, armagnac and floc.
Huge lake with lots of water sport activities
Beautiful little round bastide village with interesting Brocantes, craft shops and restaurants. Monthly brocante market (first sunday of the month) A Plus Beau Village
Fortified village with a really interesting history. 2 good restaurants and lovely walks nearby.
Remarkable Roman mosaics, preserved beautifully.
A fascinating 14th century Cistercian Abbey. The history of the building is beautifully depicted in a variety of ways. However, our favourite place is the wonderful little art gallery on the upper floors where there are some real gems by some of the great masters. Quite astonishing in this out of the way little spot. There are also large exhibitions in the main church of the building which is seriously impressive.
There are loads of very traditional and quite fabulous restaurants nearby. Many offer a set 12-13 euro lunch menu which is astonishing value and really high quality. We have a list of our favourites as they are wee places that you might not find otherwise
