About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Florence Heynard

We are both from the Aquitaine region: Jean-Michel comes from Agen (famous for its plums and kiwis) and I come from the wonderful Dordogne, which so many Brits love!! I have spent 25 years in London, working there and I am missing my friends. We live in Bordeaux (a beautiful city) and enjoy spending our weekends in Gascony at the house. My partner works for Aviva and I work for a British company but I am based at home.

Why this location? Gascony is a hilly region with a lot of character. It is the ideal place for nature lovers, searching for tranquillity. In the surroundings, you can visit some beautiful villages that occupy this region. Food and wine is key in this rural region with no motorway! The region has an array of beautiful, medieval and once-fortified villages to visit. Over the summer period, there are plenty of "fêtes de villages" (village parties) and each village/town offers a lot of activities: walking trails, mountain biking, golf, evening markets, astronomy festival, wine testing, even balloon rides. This part of Gascony is very tranquille but at the same time offers a lot of varied activities for the majority of travellers. You are not far from Bordeaux (par of the World Heritage) and Toulouse, two amazing towns should you wish to visit them too. We therefore have the countryside but also bigger towns not far from the house.

The Owner Recommends

Jazz in Marciac

Marciac held a jazz festival at the end of July for two weeks, known worldwide to jazz aficionados. Have a look on the website, (www.jazzinmarciac.com). You can attend the concerts and you have the "off" during the day which is free of charge and allow you to discover some great artists. Wynton Marsalis is the godfather of the festival. Most great jazz artists have been singing there; it is a great festival and if you are in Gascony in August, I would encourage you to attend.

Astronomy Festival, Feurance

Fleurance held an astronomy festival every year in August. The festival started in 1991 and is a great way to attend conferences, coffee astro, courses, cinema and other observation centers. Famous scientists are attending the festival. It is catered for both children and adults.
