About this property

Converted Grange with Stunning Mountain Views. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

La Grange is set in private grounds of 5 hectares with magnificant views over the Val d'Azun and towards the surrounding mountains. There is a lounge with an open fireplace, a separate dining room and a well equipped kitchen with a range style cooker. The gamesroom has a table tennis table, a pool table, dartboard and table football. Outside there is a Scandinavian style hot tub where you can relax after an active day in the mountains and there is also a sauna.

Summer or winter this is a great base for an active holiday in the mountains. Walking, road cycling, mountain biking, paragliding, rafting, canyoning, fishing, climbing, horse riding and bird watching are all available locally and in the winter it is just 10 minutes to the cross-country skiing and about 40 minutes to several downhill ski resorts. After any of these activities La Grange is an ideal place to relax and plan the next day.

The Owner Recommends

Cirque de Gavarnie

The Cirque de Gavarnie is a World Heritage site. It is a spectacular wall of rock rising to over 3000 metres with Europe's highest waterfall. It is a major tourist attraction and the main trail gets very busy in peak season. However, there are alternative routes where you will hardly see another person even in the middle of August. The nearby Cirque de Troumouse is also spectacular, but has not been commercialised and you will experience a much wilder environment.

Hiking

There are a huge number of hiking trails, for all standards of walkers, including the long distance GR10, which passes through the village of Arrens. Some of the trails can be accessed directly from the garden and others are a short drive away. Personal favourites include the circuit from the Col du Soulor up to the Lac de Soum and the hike in to the National Park past Luc Suyen towards the Larribet refuge.

Mountain Biking

It is a fabulous area for mountain biking with over 1100km of marked trails some of them through the woods in the valley and others higher up around the cross-country ski area with far reaching views. Mountain bikes are available for hire at the nearby Col de Couraduque. We have maps and guides which we can lend to you.

Road Cycling

We are in the heart of the climbs made famous by the Tour de France. We are located at the foot of the climb to the Col du Soulor, which leads on to the Col d'Aubisque. The mountain top finishes of Hautacam and Luz Ardiden are within reach, as is the legendary Col de Tourmalet. There are also many lesser known climbs which can be equally challenging. If you have not brought your bike with you we can recommend suitable hire shops. There is plenty of storage space for bikes in the games room and we have maps and guides, which you can borrow.
