Stunning old Stone Farmhouse with Heated Pool. This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

The property is south facing and enjoys the sun all day. It's located in the highest village in the Lot and is within yards of miles of forest and fields. It has a 10m x 5m private heated pool just a few steps away from the lounge. (Pool heating is additional at £100 per week if required and must be booked before the start date of the rental).
The vine clad verandah overlooks the pool and garden that is totaly secure. Ideal for families with children. The River Dordogne is a short drive away and offers a range of activities including fishing, swimming and canoeing.

The property is close to some of the most superb Michelin starred restaurants in the area. Gourdon the nearest big town offers numerous banks, restaurants, supermarkets a cinema and hospital. Access is easy from either Toulouse, Bergerac or Brive airports and by TGV direct to Gourdon station.

The house is stone with original old oak beams throughout the house. It is close to the river Dordogne, Rocamador and the amazing caves, Grottes de la Cave.

The master bedroom has stone walls and the original exposed oak beams. It is 80sqm and has a double and 2 single beds  with separate bathroom with wc and 2 washbasins and a shower in the pigeoniere tower.  

There are 3 further double bedrooms, one of which over looks the terrace and the heated swimming pool. There is a large wet room with washbasin, wc and powerful shower with a 12 inch shower head.  

The main lounge has exposed oak beams, stone walls and a log burning stove. There are 2 large sofas, armchairs, antique pine dresser and a large dining table that seats 10 people in comfort.

The study also features exposed stone and original timbers and a large open fireplace, settee and chairs.

The very large kitchen is fully equipped with 5 burner gas range, double butler sink, washing machine, dishwasher, tall upright fridge and large chest freezer.

Living rooms

There are 2 living rooms.
The main lounge has a bar unit with cupboards under, fridge, dishwasher and sink with hot and cold water. There is a log burning stove, massive exposed oak trusses and beams and 2 setees plus a large dining table and chairs. This room has double french doors to the outside decked area and pool.
The second living room has a massive open inglenook fireplace, 2 seater sette, 2 lounge chairs, 2 coffe tables and overlooks the garden.

Bedrooms

The master bedroom has an en suite with wc, and twin washbasins. The shower is built into the old pigeonnier tower. It has a double bed and 2 singles and a baby's cot if required. It looks out over the garden.
There are 2 other double bedrooms, one overlooks the verandah and pool. The 4th bedroom has 2 single beds.

Bathrooms

The main bathroom (wet room) has a large 6" shower head, washbasin and wc, stone walls and exposed beams. The original hand carved stone sink was retained during the total renovation of this house in 2005.
The other bathroom is en suite to main bedroom.

Heating

Heating is by open fire in the Study, log burner in main lounge and electric radiators.

Entertainment

We have a cd player, so do bring your favourite cds.

Garden and outside

The garden is 1000 sqm and is fully secure with high stone walls, fences and hedges all round. Ideal for young children and pets. There is a beautiful Acacia tree with stone seat that is a favourite spot for morning coffee. There is also a verandah with table and chairs plus a gas barbecue that overlooks the swimming pool that can be illuminated at night.
There is a split bamboo thatched gazebo with round table and 4 chairs that provide a shady spot for lunch at midday.

There is a large gravelled area with room for 3 vehicles.

Information about any additional facilities

There is an Aqua parc in Souillac and numerous fishing lakes. Fishing permits can be purchased at the local supermarket in Le Vigan. There are many outstandingly beautiful medieval villages, castles and caves in close proximity i.e, Sarlat, St Cirq. The river Dordogne is accessible for canoeing, swimming and fishing at Souillac that is just 10 minutes drive from the house.

Gourdon is the nearest main town about 10 minutes drive with Hospital, numerous banks and supermarkets, cafes and bars etc. It also has its own cinema and market.

The nearest small villages of Le Vigan and St Projet are less than 5 minutes drive. The famous Grottes de La Cave and Rocamadour and the river Dordogne are also within a very short drive.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Chris Elsden

I'm a landscape artist, the other owner is a wine consultant and the third owner runs a swimming pool business. So this house is a joy.

Why this location? Reilhaguet is the highest Hamlet in the area with great views and centrally located to enable easy access to the river Dordogne and to visit the incredible picturesque villages and sites in the area. La Roque-Gageac, Domme and Sarlat. The famous Chateau de La Treyne, a superb hotel and restaurant is close and well worth a visit. Lunch on the terasse that overlooks a vast stretch of the Dordogne river is breathtaking.
Unique benefits of property This old farmhouse is very large, and enables two families to enjoy the space and yet retain their privacy. Its a beautifully renovated property that retains much of its original charm. The swimming pool is heated and safe for children with its child proof gate and security fence so that adults can relax knowing the children are safe.

Drive to Souillac and follow the small road alongside the river to La Cave. Have lunch at Cales in either of the 2 Logis restaurants.

We had a great stay here. Lovely house. Pool was the same level all the way across - good for the younger kids. Bedrooms great. No towels - something which we wish we'd realised in advance. Village very quiet but close to plenty of things to do. Nice restaurants in Gourdon, canoeing, cycling, caves and other touristy things the kids loved. There is a wood yard behind the house (mentioned in another review) which you can hear if you are in the loft rooms but you can't see it and if you are outside the house at the pool, you don't hear it at all. Overall would definitely consider going back again, it is a lovely property.

Thank you very much for your review. We are glad you had a great time at the house. We do mention on the sites that towels are no longer provided as we found they seemed to vanish into thin air with alarming regularity. This caused a few issues for both us and newly arriving guests. Our apologies if this caused you a few problems.
