It's not only Paris which has a beach along the River. Cahors too! Go and check it out along the edge of the River Lot. Whilst in Cahors, indulge in a spot of retail therapy in the old centre or go on an organised tour of one of the many vineyards in the area.
Collonges la Rouge is well worth a visit too. Only 400 people live here in houses made of red sandstone. It is certified as among "the most beautiful villages of France".
Take a few hours to see the town of Figeac. It has a pretty centre and the locals are proud of the fact that it is the birthplace of Champollion, the famous Egyptian specialist who deciphered hieroglyphics.
Fishing either on the doorstep at the lake in le Vigan or in the "Domaine de Loisirs-Ecoute s’il pleut" again a couple of km outside Gourdon on the road leading to Sarlat. If you have children, there’s also a beach there and lots of activities to keep them more than occupied.
A guided visit of the medieval town of Gourdon (with optional English commentary). A visit to the prehistoric grottos of Cougnac (2km outside Gourdon on the road leading to Sarlat) or alternatively an underground boat ride through the wonderful Gouffre de Padinac.
