Marc & Deb Shuttleworth, both from near Stratford on Avon. We have french Family in the area and have been visiting this area for nearly 40 years. We bought a piece of land in 2005 and immediately commissioned the building of our house with a local french builder.

|Why this location?||France has many beautiful regions, however the Lot and Dordogne have a wealth of beautiful scenery, villages and local speciality foods, it's also about as far as one can drive comfortably in a day from the ferry ports.|
|Unique benefits of property||Private, Modern, spacious extremely well quipped and in close proximity to many local attractions including Rocamadour, Sarlat, Le Roque-Gageac|
Rocamadour is a mediaeval village perched on the edge of a gorge, it has ancient buildings, castle, Money park, Eagle sanctuary. Many restaurants and tourist shops.
Padirac is a series of underground caves accessed by underground river. You enter via a giant pothole in the ground walking or via lift. A short walk at the bottom takes you to a jetty where you can board a manned punt that will take you about half a mile along an underground river followed by a guided cave tour. A very unique experience.
There are numerous location canoe stations along the dordogne the closest being at the bottom of the hill from cales in the village of pinsac, you can park your car and a bus will collect you at the end of your trip and return you to your car.
World renown character town.
We have two Michelin star restaurants within 3 KMS. Firstly Chateau de la Treyne on the banks of the dordogne by the bridge at Pinsac and secondly Le Pont de l'ouysse on the banks of a small tributary of the dordogne a you enter the village of La Cave
There is an excellent zip wire centre near Sarlat with about 20 zip wires ranging from suitability for small children up to advanced high wires for the brave ones amongst you. Thee is also a paint ball centre at the same location.
Our welcome pack has a number of other activities and contact details for the local tourist information. There is loads to do and see in the area.
A fantastic house with great facilities and lovely pool. Set in a beautiful quiet location with lots of great places to visit. The house is fully equipped with everything you could wish for. We really enjoyed Le Belvedere at Rocamadour, canoeing on the Dordogne, Gouffre de Padirac Caves, Sarlat, Domme and La Roque Gageac. We were lucky enough to visit Sarlat during the market which was fantastic. If you plan to visit Gouffre de Padirac Caves during peak season, we would recommend booking on line. We ended up buying tickets there and returning the next day, as otherwise we would have had a six hour wait!
Thank you for your review, we're pleased you enjoyed your stay and were able to visit some of the stunning locations near by. I have made a note in our welcome pack about the pre-booking at Gouffre de Padirac so hopefully future guests won't have the same problem.
We enjoyed our week at Cales retreat despite some rather mixed weather! The house is in a lovely setting, very quiet and extremely safe with wonderful views. Marc's communication prior to the holiday was excellent and directions to the house were great - we found it first time!
The bedrooms are all a good size and the beds comfortable, there was enough room for 7 people adults to relax without getting in each others way. Plenty of utensils, crockery and cooking pots to use. The facilities at the house are good, although Wi-fi was a bit patchy. Plenty of loungers and outside seating, bbq, bikes and games on offer, we became quite competitive with our boules matches!
We loved the pool, particularly as it is heated, it is very clean and when the weather was kind to us we were in it all the time. Loved watching the birds take dip in the early evening too!
Unfortunately there is now only one restaurant in the village which was a little disappointing, whilst it was excellent food, it would have been nice to have a bit more choice. The Lamb, Tuna steak and puddings were all delicious. We did get involved in the lantern parade round town with the locals which was good fun.
As we just wanted to relax we didn't venture out much, however, we really enjoyed the 9km kayak trip from Meyronne down to Pinsac for 18euros per person and also went into Souilliac.
A great place to relax, unwind, sip a glass of rose and read!
Thank you for your review. It's unfortunate that the weather was not the best for you as this year we've had some very high temperatures just not your week. It's also a shame that the one restaurant has now closed however I'm not sure if you were aware but there are two Michelin Star restaurants within 3km in Pinsac and Lacave, obviously someone would have had to drive though. The Lantern parade is the final day of the village fete usually the 2nd weekend in August which starts on the Friday evening, all day Saturday and then the parade on Sunday.
We're pleased you had chance to relax and use the pool.
beautiful house lovely location, very clean and comfortable. surrounding area full of interesting things to see and do.
would recommend this property and am saving again so we can take the younger grandchilren next time.
Many thanks for your review Brian, we're very pleased you found the house comfortable and clean, and you also managed to visit some of the numerous places of interest.

We enjoyed a supremely relaxing holiday as a solo couple for one week and then with friends for the second week.
The house catered for our every need, was clean, well maintained and cool (considering it was 30+ degrees everyday of our stay, this was a welcome relief from the heat).
We found that there was lots of things to do in the local area, especially visiting beautiful places, they are in abundance in this area but also found there to be many events including festivals, markets and a medieval day in Rocamadour during our stay!
I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing break away, we certainly did not want to come home!
