Puy l’Évêque and local area

Puy l’Évêque is a quaint town situated north of Toulouse and in The Lot Valley. The town is steeped in ancient history and is set on a hill over looking the picturesque River Lot. Through winding, narrow lanes, passing medieval houses, you can make your way up to the market place, Place de la Truffière, situated in front of the grand Mairie. Here you will find a few local shops, restaurants and bakery. A perfect place to relax, unwind and watch the world go by. This is also the location of the weekly market, where you can pick up some local French fancies. Just a stones throw from the market place is the Church of Saint Sauveur, a 14th century fortified church with an inviting entrance. Surrounding Puy l’Évêque are miles of beautiful, quiet vineyards, perfect for cycling and running or, of course, for sampling the local grape and taking in the stunning views.

The food and wine of the region, is a match made in heaven: duck, Foie gras, goats cheese, walnuts and truffles can all be found at the weekly, bustling, markets of Puy l’Évêque, Prayssac and Cazals. There are many restaurants in the area and we are more than happy to offer recommendations.

We had a wonderful, relaxing and active two week holiday at Gite La Fleurieu. The Gite is beautifully renovated and the layout is such that it feels you are almost on your own. This is especially true of the pool where our 3 girls aged 12,10 & 8 spent much of their time. Sam and Andrew were perfect hosts and very helpful whenever required but not intrusive in anyway. We were given great advice on where to visit and where to cycle as we had brought our bicycles.

Temperatures were high with pure sunshine the first week and a few isolated thunderstorms in the second week. The property is in an elevated position with stunning views and there was often a breeze that brought welcome relief from the heat.

Our family found this is a perfect place to stay and from which to explore the surrounding countryside. We would not hesitate to recommend Sam and Andrew and Gite La Fleurieu for a great holiday in and around Puy-l’Eveque!

A beautiful gite in an incredibly beautiful setting. Our hosts, Samantha and Andrew, were warm and friendly without being intrusive, and clearly work hard to ensure that everything is just right for their guests. The property is meticulously clean and beautifully tended both inside and out. The kitchen is well equipped and was stocked with basic groceries on arrival. This was particularly helpful as we didn't get there until 8pm. The owners will provide a platter of cold food on arrival at a reasonable price, and we can recommend this - stunning local produce and wine on the terrace was the perfect start to our holiday. There is so much to see and do in the local area, but it was difficult sometimes to motivate ourselves to leave the house with its fabulous pool. We had family staying in another gite in the area who were aldo warmly welcomed by Sam and Andrew when they visited us. If staying we would recommend taking the Copeyre boat tour along the Lot. We are a few times at Hotel Henry in Put l'Eveque - beautiful traditional french food. Also, don't miss the night market in the town - paradise for we foodies! Still on a food theme, the ice creams and desserts at the Astrolabe are to die for! In summary, Gite la Fleur is a little paradise sitting in a bigger corner of paradise. This, for us, was the perfect holiday. 5-star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
