Beautiful Semi Detached Cottage Sleeping 2-8 . This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

Set in 2.5 acres above the Dordogne river and on the edge of a pretty village, our holiday home offers the best of both worlds, the tranquillity of the countryside but just a few miles from the attractions of the Dordogne/Lot regions including caves, Bastide towns and castles of the Hundred Years War, Rocamadour and Sarlat.

The Gold finch is a delightful four bedroom property, sleeping 2-8 people.Converted from an old tobacco drying barn. It has retained its beams and honey colored stone walls throughout but offers the modern comforts of home.
The cottage lends itself to families, couples or two families sharing.

Our site offers many different types of holidays. For the family it offers space for children to play and enjoy with 2 and a half acres of secure gardens .
For couples wanting a calm environment then profit from the beautiful gardens and glorious views with woodland walks all around.
For those wanting to profit from the history this is the region of the Hundred years war with castles and Bastide towns in abundance. It is also renowned for its fabulous caves, the home of Lascaux
Alternatively for the more active we have several local golf courses, canoeing, the Dordogne river is a 5 minute drive away, horse riding, tennis, parascending, hot air balloon ride,walks and aqua parks.

Failing all that then just enjoy the gastronomy of the area with fine Perigordine cuisine a restaurant/bar is just a 5 min walk away and the local wine areas of Cahors Bordeaux Gaillac and Montbazillac
Les Espioles finally offers the opportunity for families and friends to holiday together with 5 individual cottages.

Kitchen and dining

Accommodation over two floors.
Downstairs consists of a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area with all the comforts of modern day life.
The kitchen has a gas cooker/oven ,fridge/freezer,dishwasher,microwave, coffee machine,kettle and toaster, a washing machine is available communally along with a large choice of crockery/cooking utensils. All cleaning materials are provided.
The dining area has a large oak table with seating for 8. High chairs are available if required.

Living rooms

The living space offers two three seater sofas and two armchairs. There is both french and English free to view tv along with a dvd player for those moments out of the midday heat


Upstairs there are four bedrooms - two doubles, one twin and a set of bunk beds (adult size.)
All have built in wardrobes and exposed floor boards.


There are two shower rooms downstairs each with shower, hand basin and toilet.
Baby baths are available.


All rooms have electrical radiators (hopefully not required) and all bedrooms have portable fans for those warmer evenings. Travelling cots available.



There is satellite tv (both English and French) and a dvd player for those down time moments. There is also a cd player. Free wi-fi throughout the property and grounds.

Garden and outside

The house has its own private terrace with outside lighting, table, chairs, parasol and bbq.
For the hotter days or if you wish to eat with other families there is a communal covered eating area with bbq facilites.
The property is set in 2 and a half acres of beautiful gardens offering playing areas and shaded areas for relaxation.

In terms of entertainment there are the additional facilities of table tennis, badminton, volleyball, football and basket ball nets, trampoline and two swing areas as well as our swimming pools.

The swimming pool area is set aside from the houses and is fenced, gated and alarmed.
There are two swimming areas a 11m x 7m pool, and a heated pool 9m x 5m 28 deg so you can swim even in early spring and autumn. The pool area offers space to relax and sunbathe with sun loungers but provides shade with 3 pergolas.

Parking and garages

There is private off street parking to the side of the site with space for 9 cars.
Cars are not permitted in the gardens themselves for safety reasons but we are more then happy to assist with the unloading and loading of luggage.

Visitor suitability

The property is suitable for couples families and groups of all ages but regrettably not suitable for people with limited mobility as all properties are arranged over two floors.
The property offers a get away from it all experience but with amenities a mere 5 minute drive away and the major tourist sites within a 15-30 minute drive.
The site offers a safe environment for children, animals are regrettably not permitted however small or cute.
All properties are non smoking though of course smoking is permitted in the grounds and on the terraces.

Washing facilites are available communally.
Bed linen is provided free of charge and all beds made up for your arrival.
Towels may be hired if so required.
Babysitting and taxi services available on request.
End of stay cleaning option possible if you do not wish to clean the property at the end of your holiday.

Why this location? Our property is ideally situated in the beautiful french countryside but close to all the attractions of the Dordogne valley. We are within half an hour of the areas beautiful towns of Sarlat, Rocamadour Beynac and Domme, the castles of the Hundred years War and the numerous caves. We are a mere 5 minutes from the Dordogne river with all its water sports and cycling paths. Closest amenities are just a 5 minute drive away and a superb restaurant and bar just a 5 minute walk.
Set high on a hill, there are beautiful walks around the village and a feeling of having stepped away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Unique benefits of property The property is ideal for couples, for families or large groups wishing to holiday together. Set in two and a half acres of attractive gardens the site offers activities for all. A safe environment for children to play and meet others with swings, trampoline and areas for playing football, badminton table tennis and basket ball.
A communal eating area for groups yet each property has its own private space and terrace for alfresco eating.
Finally two pools and a children's paddling pool space is not a problem and with the heated pool you are guaranteed 28 degrees swimming whatever the weather.
