La Borie is a 17th century property on the border between the Dordogne and Lot regions of France. Our accommodation consists of a large converted barn comprising two gites together, housing up to 14 guests. The accommodation at La Borie is ideal for large groups or families booking together.

About the Area:

The Village

Set within the grounds of an old 17th century farm, La Borie is on high ground above the beautiful village of Frayssinet-le-Gélat, on the border between the Lot and Dordogne regions of South-West France, one of the country’s most attractive rural areas. The area benefits from excellent weather throughout the summer months.

Set amongst rolling forested hills at one end of the beautiful Thèze valley, Frayssinet-le-Gélat is typical of the region’s small medieval settlements. Dating back to the 12th century, the village is contemporary with many of the region’s oldest castles and towns. An excellent boulangerie/pâtisserie, a restaurant and a café are all within walking distance of the gites, with many others just a short distance away.

Castles and Medieval Villages

The Dordogne and Lot regions have many of France’s most impressive historical buildings, including some of its finest castles, such as Castelnaud and Château de Beynac. There are dozens of Europe’s finest medieval villages within the region, such as Sarlat-la-Canéda and Domme, characterised by their maze of streets, small shops selling local produce, ancient town walls and buzzing market squares.

Prehistoric Sites

The Dordogne and Lot regions have some of the world’s most archaeologically-important prehistoric sites, including hundreds of impressive cave paintings at Lascaux and at other sites throughout the beautiful Vézère Valley – many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The area’s rivers provide some of Europe’s finest canoeing & kayaking on gentle, safe rivers, along which boat tours are also popular. Safe roads through stunning scenery making the area’s cycling routes among the finest in France; the region’s gorges are excellent for climbing; well-marked footpath networks provide scenic walking & hiking routes; and clear rivers offer some of the country’s best swimming and fishing locations.

The area is also excellent for children and young people, with waterparks, zoos, aquariums and theme parks throughout the region. In Gite 1, Two double en suite bedrooms with built-in showers, and one family bedroom sleeping 4 people with 2 single beds & bunk beds. In Gite 2, one double en suite bedroom with built-in shower, and one family bedroom sleeping 4 people with 2 single beds & bunk beds.

Bathrooms

All double bedrooms have en-suites, and there is an additional family bathroom in both gites; in total there are 5 bathrooms with showers.

Heating

There is electric central heating in Gite 1, with portable electric heaters for Gite 2.

Entertainment

Private use of table tennis table, and other sports equipment. HD tv with UK Freeview and media inputs in both gites, with dvd players and selection of dvds.

Garden and outside

Guests staying at La Borie have use of several outdoor spaces, including a large field and an orchard overlooked by the old farm’s pigeonnier. There is also a private grassed area for guests next to the gites with table tennis.
