About the Owner/Advertiser, Ms Joanne Hargreaves

After careers in local government and the marketing and hospitality industries in London and the south east, we decided on a complete change of lifestyle and moved to France in early 2016. We now get to indulge our passions for food, wine and the outdoors whilst sharing our little bit of paradise with our guests.

Year property purchased 2016
Why this location? The Tarn Valley is breathtakingly beautiful and remains totally unspoilt with lots of things to see and do. We are located between the river and the Lacs de Levezou and surrounded by stunning countryside and pretty towns and villages. The only occasional traffic jams are caused by the brebis sheep on their way to milking! This is Roquefort country.
Unique benefits of property The stunning view of the Tarn Valley and all the way south to the Monts Lacaune which has to be seen to be believed! The swimming pool and the gites' terraces all benefit from this view. It is a perfect spot to relax and recharge, but with river and lake swimming, kayaking, cycling, walking, riding and other outdoor activities nearby it's also ideal for a more active holiday.

The Owner Recommends

Kayaking on the Tarn

Just a few minutes drive from La Caze is Les Chemins de Traverse, a small and friendly locally run kayaking business which organises trips of either 7 or 14 kilometres on the beautiful Tarn. Setting off from the bridge below Broquies, you kayak (in single or double kayaks) through stunning scenery, negotiating mini rapids and, on the 14km trip, an exciting slide over the weir at Brousse le Chateau. You can take it at your own pace, stopping to picnic or swim en route, and are collected by Robert or one of his team at the finish point. A fantastic day out for all the family!

Lac de Villefranche de Panat and Lac de Pareloup

The beautiful lakes, 12 and 35 minutes respectively from La Caze, are perfect for swimming, a variety of water sports, boat trips or just relaxing on the many beaches. Lac de Villefranche de Panat also has a 10km walkway around it, great for running, walking and cycling.

The Gorges des Raspes du Tarn

Literally on the doorstep, including part of the stunning Tarn Valley with its pretty and historic villages, such as Broquies, Le Truel, Asseyne, St Rome de Tarn and Brousse le Chateau and Peyre, two of France's plus beaux villages. Take in the fabulous views whilst driving the whole route or pick one area and explore further.

Millau Viaduct

The iconic Millau Viaduct striding across the Tarn Valley is an incredible sight. There are numerous viewpoints in the area which allow the viaduct to be viewed from both above and below. The visitors' centre by the viaduct is well worth a visit with great interactive features as well as providing an opportunity for a guided tour.

Weekly markets at St Affrique and Millau

Bustling weekly markets held on Saturday and Friday packed with delicious local produce and crafts. Choose from wonderful fruit and vegetables, local cheeses, meat, charcuterie, oysters and mussels fresh from the Mediterranean coast, local honey, bread and patisserie, beer, wine, olives, etc.

Cheese tasting at Roquefort

Visit the caves where all the cheese is matured and taste some delicious Roquefort, the famous sheep's milk cheese made exclusively in the area. The milk from the farm next to La Caze goes to make Papillon, but there are lots of other producers in Roquefort, so lots of opportunities for tastings!

Summer Night Markets

What summer evenings in the south of France should be! Eat and drink delicious locally produced food and wine under the stars in fabulous settings, whilst listening to music and maybe even trying a little traditional dancing. Weekly night markets are held in the shadow of the chateau at Coupiac in July and August. Other local night markets can be found at St Affrique and Villefranche de Panat.

Firework Displays

From beautiful displays over the castle at Brousse le Chateau and the Abbey at Vabres, to the spectacular fireworks over the River Tarn at Le Truel, the skies around La Caze are filled with colour and light all summer.

A well equipped gite in a lovely, picturesque setting with wonderful views.
The property is comfortable with everything we needed and the owners could not have made us feel more welcome. The welcome pack was generous and included all the essentials you would need. The ‘Table d’hote’was delicious, we recommend you take advantage of this.
The owners help and advice about things to see and do in the locality was very helpful both before we arrived and whilst we were there.
The heated pool was thoroughly enjoyed by all of our party.
We would definitely recommend this property to others.

Owner response

Thanks for your fabulous review Chris. We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday at La Caze Gites and managed to see something of the beautiful area as well as relaxing by and in the pool with your giant flamingo!! Thanks also for your comments on the welcome pack and table d'hote meal - we aim to ensure that guests feel at home as soon as they arrive. We would love to welcome you back to La Caze for another holiday in the future.

Having booked a fourth return visit for next year its safe to share our review of this lovely gite.
Take stressed out working parents with 4 teenage kids drive the length of France and arrive to find a fridge with cold beer, a bottle of wine and a delicious dinner cooked by Jon, then relax!!
The village of Broquies is 5 mins drive or about 20min walk with everything you need, or there are big supermarkets about half an hour away.
You can do nothing, you can visit the beautiful scenery and bastide villages, the Roquefort caves and small town night markets or you can do nothing but sit by the pool admiring the view and breathing in the fresh air!! Its pretty dark at night and you can see the Milky Way, or by arrangement have a night swim.
It’s a triathletes dream with great quiet but hilly roads and superb running trails. Theres a beautiful lake and a spotless 25m heated open air pool 10k away if you want to do some serious training.
There is WIFI and SKY TV plus table tennis, croquet and boules for hilarious family 'comptetitions' plus the heated pool with its stunning views for chilling out.
Jo and Jon are the most amazing hosts, warm and friendly, available but never intrusive and immensely helpful.
They take pride in ensuring that their gite is well equipped with decent knives, can openers and if you need anything not there, they will lend it. 2018 was the year of the rolling pin..should you need one in 2019 it will be in your gite.
We love this place xx

Just spend a week in La Cardabelle which was a great property and setting for our summer holiday. A family of six with kids ranging from 7 - 14 years of age. Flew into Rodez which is only an hours drive away. Good facilities with heated swimming pool, close to local amenities and plenty of activities within the area. The hosts Joanne and Jon are very attentive and able to provide good local knowledge regarding places to go and provided a written daily guide of things happening in the area which we used greatly. The property was fully fitted and there was a nice welcome pack in the fridge for our arrival.
Happy to recommend this property as a very good option if you're planning a family holiday in that area.

Owner response

La Cardabelle This property is ideal for family groups- comfortable beds with hotel quality bed linen, modern bathrooms, very well equipped kitchen and laundry facilities. Everything you could ask for and more as well as spotlessly clean.
The gite is full of character, with stunning views to wake up to. The outside terrace is great for barbecues and the recent addition of the outdoor heated swimming pool will add to this excellent facilities on offer here.
The area has much to see and do- Brousee le Chateau is a stunning village, Albi's cathedral is beautiful and the towns has lovely shops , bars and restaurants. Belcastel is well worth a visit . Numerous chateaus as well as vineyards are to be found locally.
Jon and Joanne are excellent hosts, welcoming, informative and great company.
La Caze gites are just perfect for a most relaxing break away- would throughly recommend.
We will definitely be returning to this gite to further explore the beautiful Averyon area.
