About the Owner/Advertiser, Ms Joanne Hargreaves

After careers in local government and the marketing and hospitality industries in London and the south east, we decided on a complete change of lifestyle and moved to France in early 2016. We now get to indulge our passions for food, wine and the outdoors whilst sharing our little bit of paradise with our guests.

Year property purchased 2016
Why this location? The Tarn Valley is breathtakingly beautiful and remains totally unspoilt with lots of things to see and do. We are located between the river and the Lacs de Levezou and surrounded by stunning countryside and pretty towns and villages. The only occasional traffic jams are caused by the brebis sheep on their way to milking! This is Roquefort country.
Unique benefits of property The stunning view of the Tarn Valley and all the way south to the Monts Lacaune which has to be seen to be believed! The swimming pool and the gites' terraces all benefit from this view. It is a perfect spot to relax and recharge, but with river and lake swimming, kayaking, cycling, walking, riding and other outdoor activities nearby it's also ideal for a more active holiday.

The Owner Recommends

Kayaking on the Tarn

Just a few minutes drive from La Caze is Les Chemins de Traverse, a small and friendly locally run kayaking business which organises trips of either 7 or 14 kilometres on the beautiful Tarn. Setting off from the bridge below Broquies, you kayak (in single or double kayaks) through stunning scenery, negotiating mini rapids and, on the 14km trip, an exciting slide over the weir at Brousse le Chateau. You can take it at your own pace, stopping to picnic or swim en route, and are collected by Robert or one of his team at the finish point. A fantastic day out for all the family!

Lac de Villefranche de Panat and Lac de Pareloup

The beautiful lakes, 12 and 35 minutes respectively from La Caze, are perfect for swimming, a variety of water sports, boat trips or just relaxing on the many beaches. Lac de Villefranche de Panat also has a 10km walkway around it, great for running, walking and cycling.

The Gorges des Raspes du Tarn

Literally on the doorstep, including part of the stunning Tarn Valley with its pretty and historic villages, such as Broquies, Le Truel, Asseyne, St Rome de Tarn and Brousse le Chateau and Peyre, two of France's plus beaux villages. Take in the fabulous views whilst driving the whole route or pick one area and explore further.

Millau Viaduct

The iconic Millau Viaduct striding across the Tarn Valley is an incredible sight. There are numerous viewpoints in the area which allow the viaduct to be viewed from both above and below. The visitors' centre by the viaduct is well worth a visit with great interactive features as well as providing an opportunity for a guided tour.

Weekly markets at St Affrique and Millau

Bustling weekly markets held on Saturday and Friday packed with delicious local produce and crafts. Choose from wonderful fruit and vegetables, local cheeses, meat, charcuterie, oysters and mussels fresh from the Mediterranean coast, local honey, bread and patisserie, beer, wine, olives, etc.

Cheese tasting at Roquefort

Visit the caves where all the cheese is matured and taste some delicious Roquefort, the famous sheep's milk cheese made exclusively in the area. The milk from the farm next to La Caze goes to make Papillon, but there are lots of other producers in Roquefort, so lots of opportunities for tastings!

Summer Night Markets

What summer evenings in the south of France should be! Eat and drink delicious locally produced food and wine under the stars in fabulous settings, whilst listening to music and maybe even trying a little traditional dancing. Weekly Night Markets are held in the shadow of the chateau at Coupiac in July and August. Other local Night Markets can be found at St Affrique and Villefranche de Panat.

Firework Displays

From beautiful displays over the castle at Brousse le Chateau and the Abbey at Vabres, to the spectacular fireworks over the River Tarn at Le Truel, the skies around La Caze are filled with colour and light all summer.
