If you are looking for a special rural escape in la France profonde Le Laurier is the perfect location. Set in the heart of the Diege valley in south west France surrounded by farms, rivers and woodland, the charming 19th-century converted barn offers extremely comfortable accommodation for two people.
On the first floor a large sitting room with deep comfortable sofas, an extensive library of books, dvds and music cds. The pretty mezzanine bedroom has a king size bed, with 100% cotton bedding and plenty of hanging space and shelving. On the ground floor there is a bright fully equipped kitchen and a shower room and toilet. The private breakfast terrace catches the morning sunshine, and when the sun gets too hot to laze in the mature garden, the large, covered terrace is the perfect place for a long lunch or an afternoon snooze. Guests are invited to help themselves to produce from the organic potager and tiny orchard. After a day of discovery - there are many medieval towns and villages, vineyards, markets and a stunning river-laced valley to explore - stretch out on the wisteria-draped terrace and enjoy a pre-dinner drink.
At night the skies are breathtaking - the Milky Way is clearly visible with the naked eye. The whole area is excellent for walking with well-marked paths for all levels within striking distance of the house. Alternatively bicycles and helmets are provided, along with a picnic basket for a more leisurely promenade.

After many years working in the design industry in London, I decided it was time to find the good Life. Le Laurier provides that in spades.

Absolutely superb! We cannot say anything else. Kathryn and John have created a most beautiful place to stay and relax in the heart of the French countryside that for two weeks gave us a perfect home from home feel while allowing us to do some glorious exploration.
Le Laurier is the sort of place you dream of. It is very well furnished, homely, with beautiful gardens and has a charm about it that is hard to describe. I don't think we have ever felt so relaxed in a place where we have stayed. We found each day we were coming home earlier and earlier just to enjoy what it had to offer: relaxing on the patio, wandering in the gardens, listening to the bird song and strolling up the local lanes.
Kathryn and John (and let's not forget Milo and Lottie, the dogs, who we could have brought home with us) were wonderful. The most amazingly hospitable hosts you could wish to meet. They have given up so much of their home for their guests, creating a real feeling of sharing what they have. They were always there to help when we needed them with lots of advice on where to go and what to do but always allowing us just to get on with our holiday. They are also two of the most interesting people you could wish to meet and our evening conversations on the patio with a glass of wine were a joy.
It's a special place and writing this just makes us want to be back there.
Thank you for such a wonderful review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your time here, and very much hope to welcome you again. You were the perfect guests!
