The Owner Recommends

The famous picturesque seaside resort of Arromanches is an ideal base for exploring the D-day landing beaches and the World War II Normandy battlefields. Arromanches is easily accessible from the car ferry ports of Caen (40 minutes) and Cherbourg (one hour) and is well served by local shops.

The historic town of Bayeux (with its famous tapestry, weekly market, trendy shops and other attractions) is only 10 minutes away by car and is well connected by the local bus service.

Invasion Museum

We recommend a trip to the well presented invasion museum on the Arromanches seafront and nearby 360 degree cinema to fully appreciate the vital role of the town to the liberation of France in World War II. A free shuttle service connects these 2 attractions.

Mont-St-Michel and the American War Cemetery

The spectacular Mont St Michel is a great day out and the quaint fishing village of Port-en-Bessin (where you can buy fresh fish or have a game of golf) is a 15 minute drive down the picturesque coastal road. A few miles further on and you encounter the American war cemetery and Omaha Beach (as seen in the epic movie Saving Private Ryan).

More Active Attractions

For those who are more active there are tennis courts, a crazy golf course and a childrens play area close by. The Tourist Information office in the town also has several recommended walks (or you can simply stroll along the beach to the adjacent seafront village of Asnelles - with several watersports facilities and other attractions).

Absolutely lovely place. Well kept and clean. Fully equipped. Beautiful location. Even though it is near a main road there is not a lot of noise. Couldnt have booked a better plave. Will definitely be back! Highly recommend it. Very close to all amenties - beach, bar, restaurants, shops and supermarket just across the road.

The property was fantastic, very well described online & certainly didn't disappoint in any way. We were a party of 5 - 2 adults & 3 children although 2 of the children are technically adults! The house was very clean & equipped with everything we needed for a holiday. The garden was a great size, again very well kept & we spent many hours playing games, relaxing and enjoying BBQ's (there is a BBQ in the garage & storage for bikes).

The location is perfect for exploring Arromanche & the surrounding area, there is a shop just down the road from the house & a lovely bakery a few minutes walk away, this was open every day in August which was great for breakfast croissants. Arromanche also has excellent restaurants & there is plenty of choice if you want to eat out. It's also famous for it's WW2 history & there is plenty to explore & see even on a rainy day, the 360 cinema & museum are both worth visiting plus exploring the beaches too.

The house is also on a marked cycle route which you can follow to Bayeux (& much further if you want!) which we did, it's about 10km away on quiet roads or traffic free lanes, a really nice day out & beautiful town. You can also cycle to the gun battery at Longue Sue Mer, this is a coastal path newly created for walkers & cyclists, apart from the large hill at the start in Arromanche, a nice steady ride.

We would not hesitate to stay in the house again, the owner was extremely friendly & helpful, we had a superb holiday, thank you.
