There is plenty of parking for 3 plus cars outside the gite.
This is a family friendly gite which also welcomes couples and all adult groups.
Last year we took advantage of the 8 acres the property is set in and introduced some livestock. We now have two sheep who had a lamb each last Spring and 8 chickens. Families (and adults!) are welcome to meet the animals and help with feeding, watering and collecting eggs.
The property was once a farm and it is steeped in world war 2 history as it is situated on hill 309 on the edge of the old railway line where the allies fought the Germans in their bid to capture the village of St Martin des Besaces. There is a really interesting museum in the village detailing the activity in the area.
Having hit the grand old age of 50! we decided it was time to 'escape the rat race'' at the end of 2014 and came over to Normandy to search for our ideal home giving us the potential to become semi self sufficient and maintain an income. We fell in love with La Blancapierre on our first visit as we hope you will and the rest is history.

Spent a very nice week here with family, 2 children aged 11 and 12, weather wasn't good and was cold for time of year! We used the log burner to heat downstairs.
Facilities in property are good. The bedrooms and bathrooms are good size and the appear new. There isn't masses of room downstairs, a big table, didn't find the sofas particularly comfie, one was like an unmade bed and too low for us oldies to get in and out of, some like that shabby chic look. All perfectly adequate for the amount of people that we had which was 6 in total. It's just one open living space, sitting, dining, kitchen and separate good size bedroom and shower room downstairs. 3 bedrooms up some very steep stairs with a nice landing with seating which the two girls used for reading playing games etc .
Couldn't fault the bedrooms, although heating looked like it was installed, must be a work in progress as it didn't work, however the bedrooms all had electric plug in rads for use, but meant that towel rails in the bathrooms didn't work which was a bit of a nuisance for drying the towels after showering, if the weather had been kinder we could have dried them outside.
The kids used the shared games room a couple of times and Ian and Cecelia were the perfect hosts for the week which was nice. They live on site so are on hand to give any assistance which is perfect if you are new to the area. Kids used the pool last day as warm enough, there is a garden to BBQ and eat in.
A great place to stay.
We had a fantastic time and Ian and Cecilia went above and beyond to look after us! The owl barn was spacious and well kitted out.
Looking forward to staying there again soon.
We had a wonderful week at the Owl Barn and can highly recommend a stay there. Our hosts Ian and Cecilia were lovely; nothing was too much trouble for them, They were around most of the time to answer our questions and give advice about the local area. They brought us fresh eggs from their chickens and we even tried a goose egg from one of their recently acquired geese! The Owl Barn is a big authentic property with everything needed for a holiday stay. It has a cosy log burner which, with Ian's expert guidance, we mastered after a couple of tries. The gite is great for children with it's sheep, cats, geese, goats and chickens; There's also a play area and swing for children. The splash pool was all set up for us in the garden but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try it because there was far too much to do and see and so many places to go! We hope to return one day, take up where we left off and explore more of the beautiful Calvados region. Thank you Ian and Cecilia for being the 'hosts with the most'!
We had a great time. Very friendly helpful owners nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed sitting in the private garden. Thank you Ian and Cecilia for a lovely holiday
Thanks and lovely having you to stay. Glad you enjoyed and look forward to maybe welcoming you back sometime.
