There are 2 bbq areas and all this with great views of the nearby St Sever forest. The rear decking is 10 metres long and has a fixed roof to provide protection from all types of weather, with an outside lounge and another dining table to eat "al fresco" or enjoy a drink as the sun goes down on this side of the house.
Once inside you will find quality furnishing and fittings throughout and plenty to keep everyone occupied, including a gamesroom with English full size slate pool table.
There are two medium sized bathrooms, both with showers, one with an additional bath. The washing machine lives at the far end of the house to avoid noise disturbance.
Open plan kitchen with log burning stove, central dining table, dishwasher, American style fridge with ice maker, double Smeg electric oven with gas hob. French doors open out to covered decking with outside lounge, outside dining table, another bbq and sunny enclosed garden with views of the forest.
The large living room upstairs has a gallery overlooking the kitchen, with rustic stone chimney and original oak beams. Views are of the forest and large rear garden. Kitted out with comfy sofas, rugs, large tv with sky and all the music and movies on Apple tv, plus books and games.

The barn sits on a 10 acre site with an enclosed garden off the kitchen with bbq, a covered decked area with outdoor sofas, large dining table and seating.
In a secure area adjacent sits a secluded 10m x 5m heated pool with tables chairs, canopies and loungers. We have improved access via a decked walkway from the rear of the house thru to the pool accessed by a glass safety gate.
An oak framed open double garage offers protection for vehicles, the drive is 2 cars wide allowing further parking for a number of cars.
There is one step down into the main entrance taking you into the kitchen and 1 step up from the rear via the decking, so unfortunately this property would not be ideal for wheelchair access.
The owners parents live nearby to provide on site assistance during your stay and are there to provide information on local amenities.
I live and work in Manchester but love to come out to France as often as i can, the house and gardens continue to be improved year on year, with extra features added to improve you holiday experience.

Around 30km north are numerous beaches used during the Normandy landings. There are many historical sites with visitor attractions to really get a feel for the massive undertaking the allies experienced during this pivotal time in our recent history.
All in all we had a great stay. The big draws for this property are the pool, veranda and locale. Although the property offered plenty of leaflets on local area a number were well out of date and with no guest pack it lacked a personal touch - such as local walks, when the local shop is open, that kind of thing as well as how to get the best out of the property itself. Having said that, first impressions were fantastic, But a deeper look when we followed the rather unfriendly instructions to clean (before later being accompanied for inspection after we had locked up on our departure) showed that beyond surface cleanliness the deeper cleanliness was not as good as we'd experienced in holiday cottages throughout the UK. More importantly perhaps were the number of light-bulbs not working and an unsafe switch in the ground floor bedroom. Chipped mugs, a front door you couldn't lock from the outside and hardly any hand-soap were all minor niggles that distracted from a great property's full potential. The other review on mattresses is a matter of opinion - we all slept really soundly on those provided. The damages deposit was an unnecessary palaver and would ideally be wrapped up with the initial agents deposit. Those niggles and not entirely friendly notices didn't - in the end - distract much from a fantastic property. Fixing those niggles would deservedly get this property a 10/10 in all aspects.
Carl, thanks for the very honest feedback, it is a difficult property to keep clean, I spent two days myself at the start of the season and my parents still cleaned afterwards. I will look at making some changes to make that easier. Any chipped mugs plated should be thrown out, there is plenty of them, so I will do that. Good advice about leaflets and guest pack, I guess with everything in the internet we weren’t sure people even read the leaflets but you are the second person to mention this so yes we will sort that out and create a pdf version to download and have on guests phone. The notices are perhaps a little unfriendly, we will change those. Light bulbs should have been replaced if you let my parents know. I’m concerned about the faulty switch, I’ll get them to check. Anyway I’m glad you had a good time and these things didn’t distract too much from your holiday and thanks again for going to the trouble of writing a review.
Great house, well set up for English families. Excellent outside facilities we made full use of outdoor seating/eating & BBQ area, resulting in us never using the indoor space, often staying outside until after midnight enjoying local ciders. Pool was great perfect temperature and a very good size, local town has a very good selection of shops and resturants and only 10 minutes away. Found the owner very helpful, answering some personal pre departure queries promptly and positively.
We have been booking this type of accommodation for over 20 years, this is one of the best we have stayed in.
A couple of negatives- have to agree with a previous review, beds were uncomfortable all 6 of us found them very hard but made mattress toppers out of spare quilts to make more comfortable. Also as someone who takes little cash away, and having checked the booking terms and conditions, asked for a €300 breakages deposit, this should have been made clearer when booking. However these didn’t affect our holiday, and I would recommend this property to anyone.
The gite was fantastic with great indoor and outdoor space that was clean and well maintained. We used all of the facilities including the pool table, swimming pool, boules and badminton sets, chess, games and books/leaflets. The house was well equipped for the seven of us and our hosts,Dawn and Keith, were very helpful when we had any queries. The nearby town of Vire was handy for supermarkets, petrol and restaurants. We visited the Normandy D-Day beaches, and the lovely beaches at Julouville and Granville. We also visited a nearby luge and go-kart track and tried the pedalos at Lac d.e la Dathee
We would have no hesitation in recommending the Barn and we particularly loved the outdoor seating and dining arrangements with the barbecue nearby.
The bedding including mattresses were of pure quality and some sheets were stained. There were no folder with complete instructions and or des cription of property and facilities e.g. doctor or hospital details ext.
Richard, firstly thanks for the feedback, we welcome comments to allow us to continually improve. I have spoken to my mum and she agrees there was a duvet cover that had a stain which despite washing, refused to come out, this has been replaced. Mattresses are a personal thing and what suits one person won't suit another, just one of the difficulties we have trying to appeal to everyone, two of the mattresses were replaced last year and whilst not the high end, you can pay hundreds for a mattress, they are not the cheapest either, but I will have a proper look at them in September. We have tried to put all our info on the website, that way you always have it with you, but yes the location of the hospital/doctor is a good idea and we will produce a factsheet for future guests. My parents live there permanently and go above and beyond to help people out and make sure they are completely happy to enjoy their holiday, this in comparison to remote owners is a bonus and allows any niggles to be corrected at the time. I believe your family had a great holiday and many people do return at some point in the future and I hope you are one of those people. We will take your comments seriously and are continuously adding new facilities and making improvements. All the best, Darren
