We believe parts of The Barn Cottage date back to the 12th century. The property set in the small complex of Le Vieux Pressoir, provides spacious and comfortable accommodation. Seven bedrooms, 2 of which are on the ground floor and 5 bath/shower rooms with 4 en suite, comfortably sleep 14 people, and there is even a sofabed for unexpected guests! The downstairs bathroom has an extra wide shower tray, seat and grab handle to suit those with reduced mobility.
With the Calvados just next door, we can accommodate 21 people on site plus infants. There are no unexpected extra costs, the price you see is the price you pay. We provide all bedding, towels, and tea towels, and heat and light is included in the price.
Fully modernised, The Barn Cottage has a large sitting room with lots of soft furnishings, flat screen satellite tv, and a dvd player. There are loads of toys for the children, and a wide range of books. The separate dining room can seat 20+, and the cottage has a fully-fitted kitchen, with full size cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster and coffee-maker.
Our complex is set in nearly 2 acres of grounds, the Barn Cottage itself has a large private, and securely fenced garden, with swings for the children, outdoor furniture and large barbecue.
The 32' x 16' swimming pool is fenced and heated.
The Barn Cottage is set to the east of the the tiny village of Vieux Pont-en-Auge, just yards from the river 'La Viette'. It is quiet and peaceful, yet only a short drive to supermarkets and restaurants, and is perfect for walking and cycling holidays. Two way-marked walks pass our gate.
We have been welcoming people here for over 20 years. We live on-site in our lovely farmhouse, where we offer bed and breakfast and evening meals. After all this time, we know enough to 'not get under your feet', but are always here to help if needed.
The site is very child friendly, so you can 'travel light'. We supply free just about everything for toddlers and babies, including cots, bedding, highchairs, booster seats, bibs, plastic plates, cups and cutlery, baby gyms, changing mats, playpens, pushchairs, buggies, monitors, bottle warmers, liquidisers, potties, training seats, steps, bed guards, dvd's, and so on.
We are within striking distance of the invasion beaches, chic Deauville (Paris in Normandy), Honfleur and Cabourg. Lisieux with the Basilica of St Therese is just 20 minutes drive. Paris is just 1hr30 minutes or so by train, with an extra hour to get to Disneyland®.

|Year property purchased||1989|
|Why this location?||I came to France with a group of friends in 1989 to Le Mans for the 24 hour race. We drove down through Normandy, and when I returned home, I said to Sue, "you have got to see Normandy, it is absolutely gorgeous". We came to this area in August, found an estate agent, saw a couple of houses, then we came to this tiny pretty village called then Vieux Pont, now Vieux Pont-en-Auge. We drove down a narrow lane with grass growing in the middle, and near the end of the cul de sac, we pulled in here. The agent opened the shutters, and the heavy oak front door and went off to smoke a Gauloise whilst we explored. The three outbuildings were not in very good condition, and some ceilings had fallen in, in the house. Houseproud Sue won't like this I thought. But she looked at me and said "I don't want to see any more". We signed up two days later. We are just a few yards away from the river La Viette, which is stocked with eel and coarse fish, buzzards nest next door, deer visit the river.|
|Unique benefits of property||Our two cottages are quite independant and separate, but for groups of more than 20 we can easily open the two gardens so they can become one. It is so peaceful and quiet here, except for the squeals of kids playing in the pool. This lovely village has hardly changed in the 26 years we have owned the property, although we have all mod cons, fast broadband, satellite tv. There is still no shop or bar, but bars at close by Boissey, and at St Julian are usually open, where you can get your baguettes as well. Whilst there is fast motorway access from the channel tunnel and channel ports, rail access to nearby Lisieux is excellent, and Ryanair fly into Deauville just 30 minutes away, when you come to this tiny village, free of noise and other pollution, it is like going back in time. We are surrounded by apple orchards, horses frequently graze in the field next door, and wine is now produced just a stone's throw away near Vendeuvre. Beaches are close, we are the perfect centre to explore|
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was in a beautiful location - the pool was excellent and our grand children loved it. There was also badminton and a table tennis table outside which made for lots of fun.
The cottage itself needed a bit of tlc. The oven just wasn't big enough (or hot enough) for a large group wanting to cook. The kitchen was quite well equipped though and the dishwasher was a great bonus. There is a good large table in the garden with bbq and shade from trees.
David and Sue, the owners were on hand and were very helpful.
We have just spent a week at the Barn Cottage, what a fabulous place. Dave and Sue made us very welcome on arrival and nothing was too much trouble for them. Lovely old farmhouse with good facilities. We will certainly be back.
A stunning setting, barn and holiday destination. All families were equally impressed with the barn, rooms kitchen and garden. The owners were nearby but let you enjoy your time away, only offering advice on local area places to see or to see if you had everything you required. Sympathetically refurbished barn with all the mod cons we are used to. Great use of space for young and old. Pool fab and use of garden games as well. Plenty to be entertained with.
Would definatley visit this area of France again with the possibility of the same accommodation as well. Really appreciate the area and barns because holidays go to quick and the barn has the perfect surroundings to relax and recuperate. Thanks again for a great stay x
As a group we found our stay at Barn cottage comfortable but interesting.
We were not convinced that the photographs or the discripton in the advert on the Holidays Direct site were enterly accurate.
Although the property was clean it was very poorly maintained, and defiantly in need of an overhaul, and modernisation.
The owner wonce made aware of what we considered vital short comings did respond quickly.
The owner was in fact a delightful chap and only to willing to help.
Barn Cottage in its current state would be very difficult to recommend to either a group of friends or families with very young children.
The local area of Normandy is stunning, with many attractions and wonderful scenery, ideal for car clubs to enjoy.
We welcome all reviews, but were confused by this one. We wrote to the author of the review well over a week ago asking how our description was inaccurate, no reply has been received, and since the description is completely accurate we don't expect one . This review is also at odds with all other reviews we have received. The property is well maintained, recent updates were the kitchen with new units, 2 new bedrooms, a new dining room and a new bathroom, but a half timbered cottage dating back several hundred years is not a 21st century hotel, which is probably where this elderly group would have been happier. The property was stated to be clean, yet awarded only a 6.0 for cleanliness!
We have worked tirelessly to provide all necessary equipment for children (see our description for details) and to make the property safe and so child friendly. As far as suitability for children and other groups, this quote was from the last review; "A brilliant gem of a property in Normandy - perfect for our group of 10 adults and 6 young children. Pool and garden lovely"
