The Owner Recommends

Trouville and Deauville

Trouville has the authenticity of the early days of the Belle Epoque with a picturesque fishing port. The renovated covered fish market on the quayside is a historic monument where you can eat the freshest seafood you've ever tasted.
Deauville, every morning the lively market with a diversity of local produce et à la française a coffee on one of the terraces. Deauville also means shopping and a visit to the Hippodrome for a horse race or Polo match. Walk the famous boardwalk on the beach "les Planches" and visit the home of CoCo Chanel.

Honfleur

Romantic and picturesque Honfleur, a magnet for artists.
Monet, Courbet, Dubourg, Boudin........
Wander around a maze of tiny streets crowded around the old port. Visit the wooden Church of Ste.-Catherine and the 14th-century Church of St.-Etienne.
At the gateway to the Seine, the renovated 16th-century residence called the "Lieutenancy" sits atop what remains of the town's fortified ramparts.
Make a boat trip with views of the Pont de Noemandie bridge - one of the world's longest cable stayed bridges - spanning the milky Seine.

Calvados - Pommeau - Cider

Calvados, pommeau and cider.
Consider a pilgrimage along the "Route du Cidre" for tasting the
Crus de Calvados.

Local Markets' and sleepy villages

There is a 'marché traditionnel' every day in the neighbourhood to buy the freshest French delicacies to have a wonderful diner on the terrace of the Bergerie.
Discover sleepy villages in stunning locations, try Beaumont-en-Auge or le Bec-Hellouin with a visit to the Abbey. Visit Beuvron-en-Auge or admire the truly amazing Bayeux tapestry.
There's a beautiful Zoo just 10 minutes from the Bergerie.

Monet's Garden and Rouen

Visit on a sunny day Giverny with the house and gardens of Claude Monet.
Rouen; only one hour from the Bergerie. The town of Jeanne d'Arc and the restored Cathedral de Notre-Dame which is one of the best known cathedrals in France.
There's a fantastic light show in the evening.

must see....

There are many must see locations in Normandie, such as the landing beaches and a range of historical sites from the Second World War.

Paris or sun beds.....

From the Bergerie to the Eiffel Tower is only 160km....or relax and unwind on the sun beds in the garden of the Bergerie.

I couldn't praise this accommodation more highly. The setting is beautiful, the surrounding area abundant with all things traditionally French.
You can arrive here, unpack and allow yourself to absorb immediately into the rich culture of your surroundings. The delightful Bergerie has everything that you could possibly wish for. It's tastefully decorated with period pieces of furniture wich so suit the surroundings but also boasts modern and up to date fixtures and fittings such as an excellent shower and an outdoor kitchen area wich is a delight to use in the better weather. The chickens roam the grounds in the day time and when relaxing outside, the only sound to regularly break the peaceful silence is that of the sheep in the neighbouring field.

Making the stay all the more pleasant are your hosts, Hetty and Ruud.
They will welcome you with a drink after your journey, regularly check you have all that you need and are full of suggestions on how to fill your days in beautiful Normandy.

So at the risk of La Bergerie being unavailable next time I wish to book, I urge you to visit - you can't fail to enjoy!
