Historic Bayeux is a 10 minute drive with many chic boutiques, cafés, restaurants, fantastic Saturday market and the Bayeux Tapestry. There is also a selection of museums and cathedrals for you to visit.
Night Trotting at Cabourg and more. Take in a show or have a flutter at the beautiful Casino and on some Fridays in the summer you can dine in style as you watch the Night Trotting at Cabourg, a very special evening indeed. Trotting is very popular in Normandy and you can often see the horses being exercised along Omaha beach.
The landing beaches stretch from the British beaches and Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches to our nearest beach, Omaha beach and on towards Cherbourg. Omaha beach is a 5 minute drive from Le Pressoir and on the hill behind the beach is the very impressive American Cemetery, museum, the gardens there are a tranquil place to remember those that lost their lives on the beaches below.
Live the high life - drive to Deauville and stroll the Promenade, have lunch at one of the many exquisite restaurants or shop till you drop at Gucci, Channel and Louis Vuitton to name a few.
You'll be spoilt for choice of things to do in Normandy. The most famous must see things are the many poignant WWII landing beaches and the world famous Bayeux Tapestry that tells the story of William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings. Nearby there is horse riding, golf, fishing, sailing, sand yachting, bungee jumping. Plan in advance and make the most of your stay and maybe one stay won't be enough!
Our local village, Trévières is 3km away, it has 2 bakery's, 2 butchers, 2 bars, post office, pharmacy, small supermarket, 2 hairdressers, florists and a thriving Friday Market with fresh local produce.
The advert for Gite Renoir and its two neighbouring gites perfectly describes the property and the ambience of the place. Beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean, it really is the ideal place to unwind and relax, although it is also very close to the N13, Bayeux and the D-Day invasion beaches. Shu and Rob, the owners, really went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable, nothing was too much trouble. The pool is great for a swim first thing in the morning or to cool off after a warm day exploring, and the hot tub is available for use at any time.
Among the great places we visited are the Airborne Museum in Ste-Mere-Eglise, Maisy Battery, Bayeux Cathedral, Arromanches and Honfleur. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable and unique place to stay in Normandy, and if we could give Gite Renoir 11 out of 10 across the board, we would!
Thank you so much Brynne and Steve for such a glowing review, we've loved having you all here again and can't wait to see you again next time. We love how you end your review by saying "If we could give Gite Renoir 11 out of 10 across the board, we would!" Wow! Praise doesn't come any better than that, thank you.
Best Wishes, Shu & Rob
We had a wonderful time at Le Pressoir. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel most welcome. The facilities were very good, we spent a lot of time in the pool. The gite was comfortable and well equipped with some lovely personal touches. This is a very special place and we look forward to spending future holidays there. There is a lot to explore in Normandie. We particularly enjoyed Honfleur, the harbour there is well worth the drive. The beaches were fantastic, you really appreciate what our WW2 veterans went through; there is a lot of information/museums about the D-Day landings to explore; Gold Beach at Arromanches still has the mulberry harbours in the sea which is mind blowing.
It's great that most car parks are free to park. For food shopping I would recommend LeClerc in Bayeux or some of the other bigger supermarkets as the smaller ones don't have much choice.
Lots of places to eat - Port en Bessin is only 10 mins away and the harbour is lovely. The beach is full of scallop shells so don't go on with bare feet!
Public toilets aren't the best and the driving standards are pretty shocking but they were our only down sides so not much really!
A great gite and a great place to visit.
Thank you so much Anna,
Rob and I are absolutely thrilled with your 10 out of 10 rating and your lovely review.
We loved having you all to stay at Le Pressoir and it would be wonderful to see you again next time you're back.
The commemorations for the D-Day 75 were spectacular weren't they and we're delighted that you've already booked for the 80th commemorations!
Shu & Rob
Recently returned from a 4 night stay. Shu and Rob could not have been more helpful before, during and after our stay. This is a great location close to Bayeux and a lovely little village 3km away with all amenities. Great bakeries and we ate twice at the Italian restaurant. It was fantastic and the owner (and chef) very attentive as was the young lad who waited tables. The location is central for all the WW2 locations which was very useful in reducing too much time in transit. The gites are fantastic (we had all 3) and provide a real taste of rural French living. Although we went in late October, the pool and hot tub were still open and were made full use of by the kids. Everyday after exploring they went straight in the pool. There were also offerings from the orchard which was a lovely touch. Even the two resident dogs were lovely. Having stayed in French gites before, this was another level of comfort. An excellent stay which we would highly recommend to others. Thank you Shu and Rob.
Hi Nick, thank you so much for your wonderful review. We especially love your comment "Having stayed in French gites before, this was another level of comfort". That has made our day, thank you. We loved meeting you all and we're so pleased that you liked the little extra touches, and of course enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Best Wishes, Shu and Rob.
Spotlessly clean, well equipped beautifully furnished property. The owners live onsite and they are friendly, welcoming, knowledgable and helpful without being intrusive. The property is conveniently placed for the landing beaches and other WW2 places of interest however also many lovely non war related places to visit too within the local area. Very short drive to a village with bakery, butchers, bar, mini market and restaurant. Had an amazing time and highly recommmend (I’m very fussy and could find nothing to fault!).
Huge thanks for your glowing review. A 10 out of 10 rating from someone who says they are 'fussy' is high praise indeed so thank you very much. We loved meeting you both and are thrilled that you had a good time here.
