I share our home in France with my husband, Richard, our daughter and a gathering of animals. I am a self-employed teacher, having worked in both the English and French state systems and Richard, now retired, has been a forester and gardener. If you are keen on folk music, we can put you in touch with local events and, if you plan your holiday right, you can join us at the local folk club.

|Why this location?||Our property is in the beautiful bocage area of Normandy. The bocage is the traditional way of managing farms with small fields enclosed by hedgerows which are systematically coppiced for firewood. We are trying to emulate this as many farms are loosing hedgerows due to larger machinery needs. This is a rural area, full of natural wildlife. Tranquil but within easy striking distance of larger towns and easy access to ferry ports and short flight airports.
We are lucky to be situated about an hour from many of the popular tourist sites of Normandy. Many of the nearby towns have weekly markets, which are a must if you are fresh food fanatics.
|Unique benefits of property||Our property is in an isolated position, the last house along a quiet country lane. Situated part way up a valley side, we have a beautiful view across to Tessy sur Vire and our own smaller valley. The gîte is part of a farm complex, once being the farm labourer's cottage. It has now been renovated and modernised within whilst maintaining many of the old features, such as the large kitchen fireplace, which houses a wood burner, and the giant beam in the downstairs bedroom. This part of the property is approximately 250 years old and is built of thick stone walls.
You can walk from here to the nearby town (about 25 minutes) along the edge of the beautiful River Vire. Tessy sur Vire has a small supermarket, with a fuel station, three bakeries, a butcher, pharmacy, newsagent, hairdressers, bars and restaurants.
Talk to us about arranging a meal for your arrival or taking the kids around to visit the animals (actually, the adults may come too!).
There are many places to visit, from well known sites, such as Le Mont St Michel, Bayeux and Villedieu-les-Poêles, the west coast beaches around Granville and the department city of Caen, with a large shopping centre and an interesting war museum, Le Memorial. The Normandy beaches are a few minutes further on. Champreypus has a lovely zoo, ideal for those that do not want to walk too far. The Enchanted Village is a must for youngsters whilst for the more adventurous there are the velorails or bungee jumping.
