We moved to Normandy from SE England in 2003 and spent 13 years running an award winning B&B in the beautiful countryside of Manche, which we thoroughly enjoyed but due to health issues in 2015 we decided to throttle back a little, move to the coast and buy two holiday apartments for rental in Bayeux.

|Why this location?||Studio St Jean is right in the heart of Bayeux, our favourite town in Normandy. The apartment is less than a 2 minute walk from the pickup point for D-Day tours and shuttle buses to Mont St Michel. It is less than a 5 minute walk to the Bayeux tapestry and the beautiful cathedral.|
|Unique benefits of property||The apartment is on the ground floor, making it very popular with many senior travellers as so many of the old properties in Bayeux are on the first or higher floors, with twisting staircases and no lifts! There is a locked door from the street which leads to a quiet courtyard and blocks out any traffic noise. The apartment is in a 400 year old building, right in the centre of historic Bayeux, on a street which is pedestrianised from 1st June to 31st August and is full of cafés, brasseries and restaurants to fit every budget.|
Visit the famous Bayeux tapestry depicting the events leading up to and the Battle of Hastings in 1066, only a 5 minute walk from Studio Thiaumerie.
The D-Day beaches stretch along 50 miles (80km) of some of the most beautiful coastline in France. It is easy to drive along the coast road and visit these beaches yourself or there are many tours, leaving from Place de Quebec in Bayeux (only a 2 minute walk from the apartment). It is advisable to book tours before arriving in Bayeux as they are one of the most popular reasons for visiting the town. Public transport is not very common and it is almost impossible to visit the beaches by this means. It really is necessary to take a tour or have your own transport.
The Battle of Normandy Museum is opposite the British War cemetery in Bayeux and tells the story of the D-Day landings and the battle to liberate Normandy during the summer of 1944.
The Commonwealth War Commissions graveyard, the largest in Normandy, is on the ringroad of Bayeux and only a short walk from the apartment.
The US war cemetery is at St Laurent sur Mer in a beautiful location overlooking OmahaBeach. It is the largest US cemetery in Normandy and is approximately 10km from Bayeux.
The lovely seaside town of Arromanches where you can see the remains of the Mulberry harbour, built to help land troops and vehicles on and after 6th June 1944 is only 9km from Bayeux.
Caen is th main city in Basse Normandie and despite being almost completely destroyed in the war it has been recontructed in a very sympathetic manner. The Abbaye aux Hommes and Abbaye des Dames are the two churches in the city built by William I (William the Conqueror) and his wife Mathilda. There are also the remains of Caen Castle in the centre as well as an excellent shopping centre with many bars and restaurants. On a Sunday morning, by the Port de Plaisance there is a fantastic market, the fifth largest in France.
Port en Bessin is one of the main commercial fishing ports in France but despite this it is still a very pretty little port, the harbour being lined with bars and restaurants. There is a lovely Sunday morning market and in July and August a Friday evening market followed by fireworks. Port en Bessin is 9km from Bayeux.
