|Year property purchased||2012|
|Why this location?||We bought this property in 2012 having sold a little cottage in Montbertrand, the other side of Vire. We loved the area and wanted something with a little more scope. We still live and work in the UK which is how we have financed the renovations. The property was very overgrown but the main house was in good shape other than requiring a kitchen!. We set about tidying the grounds and employing a gardener to maintain them. In 2014/2015 we renovated the old 'boulangerie' which is now enjoyed as a peaceful 'get away' for many.|
|Unique benefits of property||The area has so many attractions it's difficult to list them all. The property itself is just very relaxing and peaceful with lovely views. You really can escape from everyday life here. It has the advantage of a rural location, yet also adjoins the village so you can fetch your morning croissants which arrive fresh at 8.15 daily or you can just pop to the shop for provisions or enjoy a beer in the bar. You can walk for miles on the numerous marked trails from the property. It is also great for cycling on the Voie Verte (Vire-The bay of Mont St Michel is 75km!).|
The nearest towns to Champ Du Boult are Vire and St Sever, both approx 12 minutes drive. Vire is the larger of the two and is very attractive with lovely shops and numerous restaurants. It is particularly lovely at Christmas and holds its farmers market on Fridays. It has an indoor swimming pool and a hippodrome where you can enjoy a days 'trotting' or flat racing. St Sever is a pretty little town with a lovely 2 hectare fishing lake in the forest of St Sever, Plan D'eau Du Vieux Chateau. A permit can be bought in the bar/shop in Champ Du Boult. Villedieu Les Poeles is a listed village d'etape (17km) and is famous for its brass and copper. It also holds a lovely market every Tuesday. Lac De La Dathee is about 10 minutes drive where you can enjoy a game of golf (www.golfdevire.fr) on its championship 18 hole golf course or just enjoy a walk around it (6km on level, well maintained paths). Watersports here are canoeing, pedalos, kayaks, sailing and windsurfing. Fishing is also popular and a weekend permit can be bought for approx 10 euros. The River See is renowned for being one of the best brown trout/salmon rivers in France. Further afield is Le Mont St Michel which was named by the Guardian newspaper as one of the top 10 romantic places to visit in the world! Granville is approx 35 minutes drive and is a cosmopolitan town with many chic boutiques and some delicious fish restaurants (my favourite being Le Restaurant Du Port). From Granville you can catch the ferry to Iles Chausey which is 11 miles. (the flora and fauna is stunning and it's a delight to swim in one of its quiet, clean coves) The D Day Landing Beaches are about an hour away (63km) and Deauville and Trouville about 1 1/4 hours (105km). Domfront is a pretty little hillside medieval village with a delightful restaurant , Le Bistro St Julien. For an evening meal there are numerous restaurants in Vire and for that special occasion, le Moulin De Jean in Cuves (15 minutes drive) is an absolute must!
We had a wonderful stay at the old Boulangerie and felt it represented excellent value for money. It is a lovely, clean, well-equipped house in a beautiful location, stunning views from the garden. The owners were helpful and kind. We would happily stay there again. Thank you.
Lovely gite, kitchen and bathroom all new or very recently installed. Lovely location with garden and orchard.
Very clean and tidy on arrival, good communication with the owner made the whole booking process easy.
Walks locally and loads of places to visit within an hours drive. We did the Normandy beaches, Bayeaux, Mont St Michel.
Just be aware the stairs are steep, not a problem if you take care.
