About this property

16th Century Gite. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Walnut Cottage was originally built in the 16th century but has been lovingly restored to combine a high standard of modern comfort with traditional stonework and a dramatic granite fireplace which provides for a cosy winter fire and makes the cottage available all year round.

The Cottage is situated between the pretty market towns of Sourdaval and Vire, close to the beautiful lake Dathee, Vire Gorges and Saint Sever Forest.

A five minute drive will take you into the Center of Vire where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and sporting activities, including Aquavire, boat hire off road cycle paths, beautiful walks, rivers, extensive forests and local markets.

Vire is an ancient walled city, built in the 12th Century by Henry Beauclerc, Duke of Normandy, son of William the Conqueror. After the 1944 bombings parts of the medieval town were spared and are still visible today in the rebuilt city.
There is a very well maintained 18 hole Municipal Golf Course that overlooks Lac de la Dathee, here you can take part in water sports, go fishing or stroll around the 5km perimeter and enjoy the peace and quiet at one of the many picnic areas. The lake is bordered in parts by forest and also has a weir and a small waterfall.

The location is ideally situated to visit Mont Saint Michel, Bayeux Tapestry, Domfront, Fourges, the Landing Beaches in the North, the War Cemeteries and the beautiful beaches around Granville.

Free wi-fi, English and French tv, a dvd player with a selection of dvds are all available to provide all the comforts of a home away from home.

A relaxing and enjoyable holiday awaits everyone who visits so if you have any questions or there is anything you would like to know, do not hesitate to message us.
