|La Garenterie||Self Catering||Saturday||3||6||1||2 single beds|
La Garenterie is bright and airy with lots of space for a family, friends and kids. It is a mix of vintage salvaged items that we have restored and modern clean items to make your stay comfortable. Located on a quiet road in rural Calvados you will only see the odd car and tractor pass. We are surrounded by cows and horses (who are very interested in what we get up to!) and have a lot of wildlife in the surrounding gardens and fields. Birds of prey are plentiful along with owls, bats, deer, rabbits and red squirrels, not to mention the abundance of butterflies and bees that continue to delight children!
There is plenty of private parking and space to store your bikes etc. We are still transforming and converting our barn next door so you are welcome to have a look at what we're up to! There is a 14th century manor house opposite the house that would have once been magnificent. If you're a keen gardener or tradesman there's plenty to do if you get bored!!
We live in the barn adjoining the property but the house has its own private gardens and you are not over looked by anyone - your privacy is our priority...unless you need us of course!
There is so much to do within a short drive of our home that we are happy to help direct you appropriately.
The vintage farmhouse kitchen is fully equipped with seating at a large family table for up to 8 people. We can provide a highchair and stairgates free of charge.
Our living room is pretty retro with enough sofa space for the group! It looks out onto the front gardens and fields. It's big enough for the kids to play in if the weather isn't on your side. There is a tv with English freeview and dvds for all ages. Boardgames, kids books and toys are also in the living room.
There are 3 double bedrooms - all with super lovely mattresses and soft neutral bedding. We have a further 2 single beds in the family room (sharing with a double) to accommodate extra kids!
Each bedroom has a lovely view and they are all bright and airy with high ceilings.
There is a night light in the hallway and family room. Stairgates are available for the top and bottom of the wooden staircase. There is no extra charge for our travel cot, Gro clock, night light, toilet booster seat, sink steps and high chair.
We have 1 family bathroom with a bath and lovely powerful shower - again, light and airy with a view of the cows and fields.
The downstairs toilet is great to avoid queues!
We can supply a sink step and toilet seat booster for children free of charge.
There is a woodburner in the kitchen and pellet burner in the front room for the winter months. Hot water bottles and extra blankets will keep you toasty at night as it does get chilly here. Rural Normandy can be cold and wet in winter so please pack layers and footwear accordingly! Wood and pellets can be purchased either from us or locally. 1st basket is complimentary.
Our gardens are large enough for kids to play in tree swings for the day or your private above ground pool.
Vire, Vassy and Tinchebray are a 15 minute drive away to the closest supermarket and boulangerie/patisserie. The pretty market town of Vires market day is Friday and you'll find all sorts of lovely food and bargains here. There are also some lovely cafes to sit and watch the world go by. There is a swimming pool in Vire with water slides and a family pool-very well priced. You will also find a municipal golf course and the stunning Lac Dathee just outside of Vire too.
The D day landing beaches and coastal resorts such as Granville, Houlgate and Carrolles are all within an hours drive away. The Bayeux Tapestry, Mont Saint Michel and the British War Cemetery are also within an hour’s drive. If you want to explore beautiful scenery then Suisse Normand and Bagnoles de Lorne are an hour away. There are 2 incredible zoos to visit along with many adventure parks offering activities.
Your garden is private but also has the ability to access other parts of the land for children to explore! There are tyre swings in the trees and a large trampoline. For bookings between June and September there is a 16ft above ground pool available for your own private use.
There is plenty of room for parking and we're happy to store bikes etc in one of our barns.
We are family and friends friendly so everyone is welcome! The bathroom with toilet is on the first floor up a flight of 13 wooden stairs so those who struggle with stairs may not be so keen. There is a toilet downstairs.
We are very flexible so please ask if there's anything you need for your stay.
We can supply highchairs and travelcots, sink steps, night lights and loo seat boosters for families.
We are self catering but happy to offer above and beyond a welcome pack if you need a meal on arrival, a snack for the kids or a bottle of something in the fridge - please ask in advance.
Our family have recently swapped the hustle and bustle of London life for rural Calvados - and what an adventure it is! We salvage, restore, buy and sell vintage furniture so enjoy hunting for goodies locally. We are still transforming and converting our barn so you are welcome to have a look at what we're up to!

|Why this location?||We instantly fell in love with the house and the local community. I'm from London and have become obsessed with our neighbouring cows and wildlife!|
|Unique benefits of property||We are very rural yet within 25 minutes of some lovely villages and only an hour away from either a beach or a big city!

There are lots of brocantes and flea markets throughout the season within an easy drive - we are happy to point you in the right direction depending on the dates you are here!
A lovely place to spend the day and only 15 minutes away from us. The remains of a castle sit in beautiful grounds and woodland with stunning scenery and wooded walks (one easier than the other). There is a park, 18 hole crazy golf and cafe. Take a picnic and games to enjoy a full day relaxing.
25 minutes away from us near Beny Bocage. A historic disused Viaduct has been transformed in to an adrenaline seekers dream! You can bungy jump, walk across a bridge over the Viaduc or swing through the trees in tandem. If you're younger and calmer there is also a Luge, sensory bare foot walk and play ground at the bottom with a lovely cafe. STunning scenery and another great day trip.
I'm not a fan of a zoo but this one is fabulous. It's half an hour away and set within a forest so it doesn't actually feel very 'zoo like'. The enclosures are huge and the animals in very good condition. There is a strong emphasis on education and conservation being part of international breeding programmes. There are 2 routes to follow with feeding times advertised on the board by the toilets! Take a picnic for the lovely picnic area or eat in one of 2 cafes. Playgrounds, inflatable and crazy mirrors are also near the gift shop.
This is the equivalent of 'Go Ape'. Tree top climbs with 4 different levels - you can get off after each one if you need to! There is also zorbing, go carts, inflatables, archery and pony rides. There is a huge picnic area and cafe too. A great day out and only about an hours drive away.
We are an hour from the most stunning family beaches in Orne, Normandy.
Carolles is our favourite because it has huge rock pools to explore.
Granville, Jullouville, Coudeville and Brehal are also beautiful - all have life guards, loos and at least one cafe.
Go prepared as opening times vary and aren't always reliable!
This property was perfect and just what we were looking for. The hosts were very welcoming upon arrival and very helpful during our stay. They also left you to it and gave you lots of privacy, to enjoy your holiday. The gite is really lovely and been kitted out nicely by the hosts. The views are fantastic and it really is a lovely place to relax and get away from it all.
The gite is very well equipped and is very much a home from home. There isn’t anything we would change. Our boys loved the above ground pool and spent a lot of time playing and having fun.
The location is a great place to explore from, with Mont St Michel an hour or so drive away and some other very pretty villages nearby, such as Clécy and Cerisy Belle Etoile. Both Bayeux and Honfleur are very much worth a visit but are quite a bit further away.
All in all a lovely place and the hosts were fantastic and very hospitable. A very happy and relaxed family of four, following our break at La Garenterie.
Thank you Nat and Dan. 😊
Thanks for such an amazing review guys! We thoroughly enjoyed having you all here and are so pleased you enjoyed yourselves. Your family were an absolute pleasure - polite, respectful, fun and incredibly clean and tidy!!! Our kids loved having the boys here and missed them immediately! Thank you for leaving our house so spotless - it is always very much appreciated. Do re book and come back as we would love to see you again. Nat, Dan, Cherry & Sid
*I highly recommend this lovely family for any rental property!!
