L'Auberdiere is a fully renovated traditional 18th Century Normandy stone farmhouse. It is located in the heart of the stunning dairy country of the Normandy bocage yet enjoys excellent road and rail transport links enabling guests to easily explore all the sites and experiences on offer in this incredible region.
With two large double bedrooms and one smaller bedroom with two bunks, the farmhouse can comfortably accommodate 6 guests.
We have sought to blend the very best of modern living and comfort within the traditional and homely feel of the original building through the retention of exposed timber beams, traditional windows and flooring.
When you book a stay at L'Auberdiere en Normandie you are booking the entire property and not a part of it. This provides you the space, privacy and enjoyment of the farmhouse and 8 acres of grounds to explore and relax during your stay.
The traditional open plan kitchen and dining room with large wood burning fire is truly the heart of the farmhouse. It is a comfortable and practical room to plan your holiday excursions, enjoy family meals and relax in front of the fire of an evening.
Fully equipped with modern self-cleaning oven, hob, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, kettle and coffee machine; everything you need is provided for your use.
The lounge room is a very comfortable place to relax, read, watch television or movies, or play games as a family.
Equipped with French television as well as UK Freeview Satellite Television, Blu-ray/dvd player, a selection of movies, board games, books etc. There is plenty to entertain the family during your stay.
The farmhouse has two floors. The ground floor contains the living rooms and the upstairs contains the sleeping accommodation. The sleeping accommodation has been divided into two large double bedroom suites and one smaller bedroom with two bunk beds. The farmhouse will comfortable sleep 6 guests and each of the bedrooms provides a different view to the outside of the property.
Chests of drawers are located in the two larger bedrooms, as well as clothes stands, electric fans (for the hot summer nights), comfortable seating for getting away from it all.
All bed linen and towels are included in your booking.
We are very proud of our large luxurious family bathroom at the farmhouse. With a large free standing pedestal bath and a big walk in rain cloud shower, it is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day exploring the wonders of Normandy. All towels are provided as part of your booking.
The main heating throughout the farmhouse is electric radiators in each room. Each radiator has its own digital thermostat to ensure you can set the temperature you require for each room. Depending on the time of year you stay, depends the type of heating, if any you require.
In the Spring, late Autumn and Winter months we tend to use the large wood burning stove in the kitchen to heat the bones of the house and the electric heating to heat the rooms in the evenings and over night. During the summer and early autumn you may only need to use the electric heating occasionally as required.
Whatever the season, rest assured the heating at the farmhouse will provide you with a cosy and homely house during your stay.
As parents of four children, we strive to ensure there is plenty of entertainment at the house to keep all ages occupied in the evenings or on days when you just want to mess around the farm rather than being out exploring.
In the living room we have a selection of Blu-Ray movies, reference books, board games, UK Freeview satellite television and French Freeview television for guests to use at leisure. In addition the house has free, fast Wifi internet providing you a fast and stable connection during your stay.
In the front bedroom is a book cabinet containing numerous paperback books for guests to read at leisure and each of the two main bedrooms provides a quiet alternative to the living room, if reading in peace is your preference.
In the front area of the grounds you will find our 4.3m enclosed trampoline, swing set and sand pit for children to enjoy during their stay. In the barn is a selection of games including badminton, darts, table tennis, Snooker, boules etc.
The farmhouse at L'Auberdiere is surrounded by almost 8 acres of grounds. The grounds comprise of, natural meadow pasture, Old fruit trees and bushes, Young fruit trees and bushes, a large gravel terrace/parking area.
This mixture of space provides you with numerous options for places to eat outside, play games, relax in the sunshine, bbq, explore nature and generally relax in the peace and tranquility of L'Auberdiere.
As guests of L'Auberdiere you have exclusive use of the entire property so you will not be disturbed during your stay and can use and explore the grounds at your leisure.
The driveway at L'Auberdiere is very large and laid to gravel. It provides ample parking for any size and number of vehicles and is secure thanks to the gates to the road.
We have sought to make L'Auberdiere as suitable as possible to all different types of groups who may wish to stay there. We believe the perfect use of space and facilities is for family groups of up to six people (adults and children), which is similar to the make up of our own family but in all honesty the farmhouse and grounds provide a peaceful escape for anyone looking for a base from which to explore Normandy by day and retreat to for relaxation in the evenings. From couples to families, pet owners to those staying for business trips in the area, we are proud to welcomed all sizes and groups to our farmhouse.
Unfortunately due to the age of the buildings and internal layout (stairs to sleeping accommodation) the farmhouse is not suitable for guests with mobility difficulties such as guests with wheelchairs or those requiring all accommodation and living spaces to be on one level.
At L'Auberdiere we strive to ensure our guests have the very best time during their stay in Normandy. With so much to see and do it is often easy to become overwhelmed by the choice of activities and sites. As a result we pride ourselves on providing whatever assistance our guests require before and during their stay. Whether you have specific interests you need help in organising before you stay with us or whether you would like suggestions for excursions, activities, restaurants etc. during your stay, we are happy to share our local and regional knowledge with you to ensure you get the most from your time in Normandy.
We are a young family from Australia with a passion for the incredible Normandie region, it's history, cuisine, produce. Our family consists of my wife and I and our 4 Children (ages 2,6,14,17) and we split our time between Canberra Australia and L'Auberdiere en Normandie. With children of very different ages, interests and passions we know intimately the wide variety of activities and sites which Normandie has to offer and we strive to ensure our guests get the most out of their stay with us.

|Unique benefits of property||With easy main road and rail access spanning the Normandie region, L'Auberdiere is centrally located and yet it a peaceful and tranquil haven of privacy in the very heart of the Normandie bocage region. As part of an active dairy farm, surrounded by pastures, orchards, walking and cycling trails, L'Auberdiere provides approx. 8 acres of its own private grounds for you to explore in absolute privacy. It is a perfect base for exploring the diversity of this region and after a busy day at the D-Day beaches and sites, the historic centres of Mont st.Michel, Bayeux, Caen or St.Lo it is a tranquil haven to which you can retreat in absolute peace and quiet to enjoy a bbq or relax in total privacy.|
As avid history fans and military vehicle custodians we very much recommend our guests to visit the D-Day landing beaches of World War Two. All beaches can be reached from L'Auberdiere within 45 mins to 1 hour (Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno & Sword) and the many other sites relating to D-Day such as the Merville and Longues Sur Mer Gun batteries, Pegasus Bridge are within equally easy reach.
We recommend to each and every guests to visit the Bayeux tapestry which is 40 mins from L'Auberdiere en Normandie. Depicting the build up to and execution of the Norman invasion of Britain in 1066, it is an incredible wonder to see and expertly described via audio as you walk around it. A visit to the tapestry is of course possible on a Saturday and it can be easily accommodated around the saturday morning markets in the town square each week. The Fresh local produce and variety of stalls make the Bayeux markets a must visit for all our guests. We especially recommend you track down the Paella stall run by 'Obelix' Monsieur Moustache - where our favourite activity is to purchase several portions of his freshly cooked paella and have a picnic lunch at any one of the incredible sites in and around Bayeux.
In 1123, Henri I Beauclerc, King of England and Duke of Normandy, had a redoubt constructed on a rocky hill top, which was surrounded by the Vire river. An industrial textile town throughout history, Vire is a vibrant and varied town with great depth of history, great facilities and a direct train line to Paris (3hrs).
As the closest main town to L'Auberdiere en Normandie, Vire has numerous supermarkets (Carrefour open 7 days a week, Leclerc open 6 days per week), petrol stations, markets and restaurants.
We have just returned from a very pleasant 2 week stay in this lovely farmhouse. Its location is superb - close to Campeaux but in lovely countryside with cows and donkeys as neighbours! There are so many places to visit within an hour's drive from this location - the D-Day beaches, Suisse Normandie, le Mont St Michel, William the Conqueror's birthplace and tomb (Falaise and Caen) and Brittany to name but a few.
The property was very clean, well equipped and comfortable. The fast WiFi connection was much appreciated; cannot comment on the TV as we had a whole fortnight without looking at it! The owner provided excellent "customer service" by keeping us informed of our booking progress etc and offering assistance regarding places to visit.
Although there was just the two of us for this stay, the property is certainly big enough to accommodate larger parties (and children are well catered for with games and the trampoline).
