|Why this location?||Marais Vernier is quaint Normandie village situated in the Natural Park of the Boucles de la Seine (the meanders of the Seine). The village has an restaurant/ bar - Auberge de l'Etampage - only a 5 minute walk from the cottage & a Post Office. Bicycle hire is available further down the road from the cottage.
Pont Audemer known as the Venice of Normandie is only 10km away with its twice weekly markets, lots of individual shops - boulangeries, charcuteries etc plus 2 major hyper markets.
Honfleur is nearby with its lovely Vieux Bassin (old quay) & quaint cobbled streets. It also boasts a lovely sandy beach.
The cottage is also convenient for visiting Deauville home of the American Film Festival every September, Pont l'Eveque with its famous cheese, Rouen, Lisieux home of St. Theresa as well as many cider & Calvados producers in the area.
Monet's Garden at Giverny is a beautiful place to visit. The D-day beaches starting from Pegasus Bridge are really interesting.
|Unique benefits of property||Forget-me-not Chaumiere is a traditional Normandie thatched cottage around 300 years old. It has been fully renovated while retaining its original beams.
Dogs are welcome at the cottage & there are lots of lovely walkies around the area.
The cottage is on the Route des Chaumieres (Thatched cottage Route).
The area is great for walkers, bikers & those interested in birds & nature. A bit further down the road from the cottage is an area called the Grand Mare with a viewing platform for watching the wildlife of the marais, plus picnic tables.
The auberge in Marais Vernier village is lovely for a drink or for a full meal. The food is traditional Normandie style & has been recommended by many of our visitors.
We had a lovely week at Forget me not Chaumiere.
The owners, Marianne and Jenny were very pleasant to deal with and very helpful, even texting us to let us know of an open air concert taking place for Bastille Day celebrations.
Forget me not is a gorgeous little cottage in a very quiet small hamlet and perfect for getting back to nature with a couple of really nice walks around the area.
It is also only a short drive to some beautiful beaches and old fishing ports, with Honfleur and Etretat both worthy of a visit.
We loved the small welcome pack with homemade jams, and the fact that the little bread van called every morning with fresh bread and croissants for breakfast.
The nearest town, Pont Audemer, is only 8 km away and has all the facilities one could need, including supermarket, a twice weekly market, cafes and restaurants, and a vet if you're holidaying with your furry friend.
We would not hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle for a week or two.
Many thanks for your kind comments. We are so pleased that you had a good holiday. We would be pleased to welcome you again anytime.
A charming chaumiere set in a peaceful location in this beautiful part of Normandy.
Well presented and with every comfort provided the property is ideal for a relaxing holiday. A garden and bbq area are a pleasant way to enjoy the evenings after a day's activity.
The Marais Vernier region, in which it is situated is ideal for walking and discovering the wildlife typical of the area. Just a short drive away is Pont Audemer, with its twice weekly market, shops and restuarants, a delight to explore on foot. There are also many well marked walks in the area.
The traditional cuisine of Normandy is not to be missed and their are numerous facilities in the area where it can be enjoyed. The meanders of the River Seine also provide an opportunity to explore the beautiful scenery and a number of Abbeys along their route.
Further afield but within easy reach by car are the Nomandy D Day beaches with numerous museums as well as the coastal areas of Deauville and Trouville. Also the delightful town of Honfleur with so much to see and do.
A good supply of maps and guides are available at the property for use and the owners go out of their way to help with any queries that may arise. I would happily recommend the property to friends and family alike, both adults and children.
