|Why this location?||Marais Vernier is quaint Normandie village situated in the Natural Park of the Boucles de la Seine (the meanders of the Seine). The village has an restaurant/ bar - Auberge de l'Etampage - only a 5 minute walk from the cottage & a Post Office. Bicycle hire is available further down the road from the cottage.
Pont Audemer known as the Venice of Normandie is only 10km away with its twice weekly markets, lots of individual shops - boulangeries, charcuteries etc plus 2 major hyper markets.
Honfleur is nearby with its lovely Vieux Bassin (old quay) & quaint cobbled streets. It also boasts a lovely sandy beach.
The cottage is also convenient for visiting Deauville home of the American Film Festival every September, Pont l'Eveque with its famous cheese, Rouen, Lisieux home of St. Theresa as well as many cider & Calvados producers in the area.
Monet's Garden at Giverny is a beautiful place to visit. The D-day beaches starting from Pegasus Bridge are really interesting.
|Unique benefits of property||Forget-me-not Chaumiere is a traditional Normandie thatched cottage around 300 years old. It has been fully renovated while retaining its original beams.
Dogs are welcome at the cottage & there are lots of lovely walkies around the area.
The cottage is on the Route des Chaumieres (Thatched cottage Route).
The area is great for walkers, bikers & those interested in birds & nature. A bit further down the road from the cottage is an area called the Grand Mare with a viewing platform for watching the wildlife of the marais, plus picnic tables.
The auberge in Marais Vernier village is lovely for a drink or for a full meal. The food is traditional Normandie style & has been recommended by many of our visitors.
An out of the way cottage perfect for the most peaceful holiday. Owners are thoughtful and helpful. Our only criticism was that there wasn't a good knife for filleting the lovely market bought fish . . And well, that's hardly a criticism!! Excellent.
Many thanks for your great review. Glad you enjoyed the local fish - sorry about the fish filleting knife ...!!
Very peaceful area, cottage nice and Marianne very helpful. It was a drive to get to local shops, only a church and restaurant local.
Many thanks for taking the time to give us a review.
We were sorry you didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the usual daily bread delivery as the baker was closed for his annual holiday when you stayed - we are only told about two weeks before when he will close for a holiday.
Thank you also for your kind comments in our Guest book - we were so pleased you all had a good time.
A charming cottage in a beautiful area.
Well equipped & homely interior.
The garden & outside bbq area do need some maintenance/attention.
Lovely walks in the area
Thank you for your kind review. We were sorry the garden was not at its best - the long wet spring & late frosts have meant we could not put in any bedding plants till we were sure of no more frost. There is a new metal grill for the brick bbq which as you saw was still in its wrapper waiting to be used. The previous client was there for almost 3 months working shifts nearby, he only left the day before you arrived as I said so we had not been able to give the walls round the terrace area their annual spring cleaning - apologies for that.
We had a lovely week at Forget me not Chaumiere.
The owners, Marianne and Jenny were very pleasant to deal with and very helpful, even texting us to let us know of an open air concert taking place for Bastille Day celebrations.
Forget me not is a gorgeous little cottage in a very quiet small hamlet and perfect for getting back to nature with a couple of really nice walks around the area.
It is also only a short drive to some beautiful beaches and old fishing ports, with Honfleur and Etretat both worthy of a visit.
We loved the small welcome pack with homemade jams, and the fact that the little bread van called every morning with fresh bread and croissants for breakfast.
The nearest town, Pont Audemer, is only 8 km away and has all the facilities one could need, including supermarket, a twice weekly market, cafes and restaurants, and a vet if you're holidaying with your furry friend.
We would not hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle for a week or two.
Many thanks for your kind comments. We are so pleased that you had a good holiday. We would be pleased to welcome you again anytime.
