Les Hirondelles can be found within the Brittany/Normandy border and is set in 2 acres of lawned gardens with a large, shared and heated swimming pool, only a 45 minute drive from the St Malo beaches. Situated in the heart of the countryside, in the peaceful hamlet of La Haute Mancelière, the cottages are part of a 17th century Breton longhouse which has been tastefully converted retaining many of the traditional features, such as exposed beams and stone walls.
Les Hirondelles - a charming 17th century cottage. The oldest of the 3 cottages, this 2 bedroomed property has many original features including a spiral staircase, open stone walls and exposed oak beams. It sleeps 4 and is ideal for a young family, with a large double bedroom and a second smaller bedroom with bunk beds. Shower, toilet, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, tv (English and French), dvd, vcr, wi-fi internet access. Electric radiators. Outside there is a private terrace and dining area, complete with wooden garden furniture, parasol and barbecue.
Les Hirondelles offers the perfect place for you to explore the region or simply relax in the garden or around the 10 x 5m shared pool, which is enclosed and heated to 27°c, April - October. In the large shared 2 acre garden you can play badminton and football, or play boules on our 10 x 4m boules court. There is a play area for children with swings, a slide and a trampoline.
Whilst not looking after the gîtes I keep myself busy by teaching English in various companies in Rennes. In doing so I’ve learned a lot about the region and have a good knowledge of local events, excellent restaurants and the most interesting places to visit – many off the beaten tourist track. I’m bilingual and am always available to help out if required – booking restaurants, horse riding, interpreting if needed. In my spare time, I enjoy running and belong to local athletic club.

|Why this location?||Why Brittany? Well, perhaps not for the hot sunny weather – a mediterreanean climate it doesn’t have. However, Brittany is one of the most beautiful regions in France, surrounded by coastline, pretty and well maintainted countryside and villages and not too far from the channel ports. A bit like Cornwall but cheaper, with better roads and of course, a very different culture. Crêpes and cider instead of cream teas. Fruits de mer instead of fish and chips. Not too long a drive for families with young children and a warm climate and not too hot in the summer to spend the day on the beach or around the pool, unlike the South of France.|
|Unique benefits of property||My aim has been to create a home from home with the accommodation offered. Every gîte retains its original character and comfort is a priority – from good mattresses to a well equipped kitchen and a properly heated swimming pool. The garden is one of the most important features of my gites – it can be accessed directly from the back door of every gite and it is a safe haven for children to explore, play and make new friends. In my experience if the children are happy, the parents are happy!|
La Haute Mancelière is situated in a peaceful location, in the heart of the countryside near the border between Brittany and Normandy. Tremblay 5kms away, the nearest village, has an 11th Century Church, as well as a few little shops and bars. St Brice-en-Cogles is also only 4km away and is a very pretty village with 2 supermarkets, shops and restaurants. There are also lots of historical towns to explore – Fougères, only 15kms away boasts the largest medieval castle in Europe. Tours of the castle are available with audio guides in English, which bring the Castle and town to life. Dinan and St Malo, both fine examples of beautiful medieval towns are close by to explore. Rennes is a larger town with pretty cobbled streets and excellent restaurants. No holiday is complete without a visit to the second most visited tourist attraction in France, Mont St Michel only 25kms away. Being located in Eastern Brittany, the attractions in lower Normandy are also within easy reach. We are only 1h15 minutes drive from the Normandy beaches between Caen and Cherbourg, and an hour’s drive from Bayeux. The surrounding countryside offers many lovely walks and cycle rides, many through established forests which characterize the beautiful countryside of the Fougères region. There are markets on nearly every day of the week, both in Brittany and Normandy. Activities such as horse riding, golf and fishing are all available locally. We are spoilt for choices for beaches in the area as we are located between Normandy and Brittany. The best beaches are around 50 minutes drive away and in Brittany there are the numerous Emerald Coast beaches between St Malo and Cancale, and 3 beaches in Dinard. In Normandy, north of Mt St Michel there are the huge sandy beaches of Carolles and Julouville. Strand beaches are closer, around the Baie de Mont St Michel, such as Cherrueix where land yachting is done, nice for walking.
