This location has multiple holiday properties
Adjacent to the beautiful Abbaye de la Lucerne and close to beaches, bays and estuaries. La Ciderie is a group of renovated barns, part of a traditional cider farm built in the traditional stone of the region with secluded courtyard and private gardens. It is a most tranquil and lovely place, yet only a few km from the sandy beaches of Jullouville and Carolles, the port of Granville and within reach of Mont St Michel and the D-day beaches. Free wi-fi is available in all the cottages.
The cottage is spacious with kitchen/dining area and lounge with woodburner. One double and one triple bedroom. The cottage has a garden with terrace, furniture and barbecue and satellite tv.
The history of the area goes back many centuries - from Norman times through to the moving story of the invasion of Normandy by the allied forces in 1944 to 1945.
The famous abbeys of La Lucerne and Hambye date from the 12th century, the small château in St Pierre Langers was gifted to the family by William the Conqueror, for the part they played in the invasion of England.
Avranches was Patton's HQ following his 3rd Army's breakout to the Loire after D-day (Cobra - 'La Percée'), and there are many poignant reminders of that time in the war graves around the area, particularly the American Cemetery at St. James and the German Cemetery at Huisines-sur-Mer, overlooking Mont St Michel.
Granville - the 'Monaco of the North' - has an old town on a rocky promontary overlooking the sea, with the port and commercial district along the reclaimed land below, with its habourfront seafood restaurants and variety of nice shops.
There's a fine beach, complete with sea water swimming pool and you can get a birds-eye view from the old ramparts above the beach. Art lovers will enjoy the Musée d'Art Moderne Richard Anacreon with its collection of Fauvist and Pointillist paintings. And Granville is also the birth place of Christian Dior, and his former summer house, the clifftop Villa les Rhumbs, is now the delightful Musée et Jardin Christian Dior.
The Chausey Islands (52 islands at high tide and 365 at low tide) are an interesting and attractive day out from Granville, and Jersey is also only an hour by hydrofoil from the town. Just 8km from the beautiful beaches of Jullouville and Carolles, and 1km from the Abbaye de la Lucerne.
In Avranches there are also the famous Mont St. Michel manuscripts, rescued from the Mont during the Revolution, on display in the Scriptorial.
Catch the hydrofoil from Granville to Jersey and get rid of your spare Sterling and practice your English in M&S!
Having ourselves stayed in houses and gites with blunt knives, an odd assortment of kitchen equipment, and lumpy beds, we have made every effort to make all the cottages as comfortable, welcoming, relaxing and inviting as we possibly could. Surroundings matter a great deal to us, and to that end, the cottage has an array of Hilary's paintings on the walls, and a wide selection of books and dvds, providing a friendly place to stay.
In addition to providing accommodation, Hilary and I run painting courses on a full-board basis, using all 3 cottages, for painters and their partners. We make use of the abundance of painting locations in the surrounding area. There is a separate pricing regime for these courses, so why not get a group together and join us on a course? We are flexible as to dates for these breaks.
Our next course is being held on 11th June 2017 for 6 days and we can offer preferential rates for early bookings. We aim for a maximum of 8 people per course.
Fully equipped kitchen/diner with gas cooker, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and microwave.
A large comfortable lounge and woodburner.
On the first floor there are 2 large bedrooms, one with a king size double bed, the other with 3 singles. Both bedrooms are carpeted with wardrobe, chests of drawers and hanging space. All beds have duvets, pillows and linen.
On the ground floor there is the bathroom with bath, shower and washbasin. Separate wc.
Electric radiators in each room.
Satellite tv, dvds, video/dvd player and boardgames.
Large, attractive garden with patio, barbecue and garden furniture for your al fresco dining. Children's outside toys available.
Shared parking areas.
Suitable for families and couples.
I spent the last fifteen years of my career as Group Finance Director of a company of the regulator of the electrical contracting industry - the NICEIC.
I retired in 2009 as CEO of the Chartered Quality Institute.
My wife, Hilary, was an art teacher and is now able to devote much more time to her own art, and there are many examples of this in the three cottages.

We had a very enjoyable relaxing one week stay in Feb 2017 with our two dogs. The cottage has a beautiful rustic relaxing charm married with modern day conveniences. located in rural Normandy close to many beaches ideal for that week away to get away from it all.
We received a very warm welcome from the English site manager who has excellent local knowledge of the area. The cottage was spotlessly clean and fully furnished to meet all your requirements. We had a great stay.
