About this property

A Quiet Rural Setting with Hot Tub Relax Under Stars. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Le Hamel Hubert is a detached stone house built around 1814 set in the centre of 1.5 hectare plot of land. The house consists of 3 bedrooms and 3 en suite bathrooms with an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge on the ground floor. The house is just 2 miles from our closest town Percy which is situated on the Route de Liberté (D999) – this is the route in which the allied troops took after the D-day landing to recapture France from the Germans during the Second World War in 1945.
Percy its self offers a bustling high street 3 local bakeries offering fresh made bread and very tempting cakes and chocolate! A post office, banks, chemist, butchers, florists 3 x garages and a supermarket

The surrounding area of the house is peaceful agricultural countryside and in our garden we have sheep and their lambs in season along with chickens and ducks meandering in the garden supplying fresh eggs to guests if required.
There are several villages close by providing French markets on Tuesday (Villedieu-Les-Poeles), Wednesday and Saturdays (Gavray and Percy) each offering something different – tours can be arranged if required. We also stock a selection of locally produced organic apple juice and cider from our French neighbour for purchase. Just a short bike ride away (3 miles) is a 13th Century Abbey if you enjoy a bit of exercise!
Garden
We have a large garden of approximately 1.5 hectares which you are welcome to wander throughout and pick any seasonal fruit such as raspberries, strawberries, apples, plums and pears. At the side of the gite is a lovely enclosed garden which contains a hot tub for your use during your stay. Sit back and relax and search the star filled skies to find the milky way which runs directly overhead of the gite. In addition in this section of garden you’ll find an outdoor seating area and bbq for your use.
You will find a bottle of local organic cider and apple juice to welcome you to our gite upon your arrival.
Whilst we make every attempt to ensure our gite remains the same throughout the year, we may need to renew/replace items from time to time.

About the Owner, Mrs Sarah Wren

We bought the property in 2007 and have spent several years bringing it back to life. We installed a swimming pool in 2015 and have now added a heater to the pool. Alan and I look forward to welcoming you to your Normandy adventure and are available to assist you as required.

Year property purchased 2007
Why this location? Our property is situated in what is known as the golden triangle - this means that we are situated under 1 hour from all of the major tourist attractions. For us, we loved being so close to the beach and one that is generally empty even during the summer. Percy offers everything you could need 3 boulangeries, 2 banks, chemist, butchers, a supermarket, restaurant and even a vets - everything you could possibly need.
Unique benefits of property We have a fabulously rural setting with an abundance of wildlife but are only 2.5 miles from the nearest town that offers all the amenities that you could want - our property offers 3 bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms which is a little bit of luxury when travelling as a family or indeed with friends. We installed an outdoor swimming pool in 2015 which is a fabulous addition to the property and used exclusively by you our guests throughout the day. The property offers you both indoor and outdoor dining options allowing you to spend as much time outdoors as you want and we even offer our guests a fire pit to ensure that you can stay warm until the sun sets around 11pm during the summer months!

The Owner Recommends

Bayeux

A fantastic town that not only offers amazing shopping, fabulous restaurants but the historic Bayeux Tapestry with audio guides available at no extra cost in all languages. It is also only about 10 minutes from Arromanche which is one of the British D-day landing beaches and hosts my favourite ice cream parlour in Normandy.

Brehal Beach

Brehal is our closest beach and an easy 25 minute countryside drive away it hosts an incredible stretch of beach and at certain times throughout the year the tide goes out for miles and you can pick up all sorts of shellfish with your bucket and spade and bring it home for tea! It is great fun especially if you have children and best of all its free!

Christian Dior Museum

The birth place of Dior is in Granville. The gardens are remarkable and are free to walk around, the views of the sea from the terrace would let you think you were in St Tropez with their blue azure waters. The museum itself is payable hosting Diors own collections.

D-Day Landing Beaches

There are a selection of beaches about 1hr away. You will find all the information you need on each of the beaches in the folder provided in the gite. There are quite a few museums regarding World War II scattered throughout Normandy and we have listed them on a map along with an explanation on what you will discover inside! The D-day landing beaches are beautifully tranquil these days and offer lots of family fun!

Mont St Michel

A UNESCO World Heritage Site very much worth a visit. You can choose to drive directly there or if you are feeling more adventurous you can walk across the sands with a guide. If you prefer somewhere in the middle tours are available from the car park at Mont St Michel, in all cases they normally offer the chance to create a giant trampoline out of sinking sand, an amazing experience!

Tour De France

The Tour de France is 100 years old! It is a spectacle in true French style and it is not to be missed and is definitely a full days family event - there are lots of carnival lorries which go past before the cyclists throwing out freebie gifts to those lucky enough to catch them, not to be missed!!

10 / 10 Goddard Family 23 July, 2014

10/10 in all areas. Fabulous hosts, beautiful cottage and unspoilt countryside who could ask for more in a holiday. I would not hesitate to recommend Hamel Hubert.

Lovely typical French restaurants nearby with menu's to suit all tastes. They appreciated the fact that we tried to converse in French (albeit very badly).

The local town has everything you need - supermarket, patiserrie and coffee shop/bar

Good points
A brilliant base to visit all of the attractions, the owner's were very friendly and went out of their way to help with any questions that we had and to offer local advice when needed. The house was excellent and exactly like the photos a brilliantly relaxed vacation, excellent amenities, 10/10 would stay here again without hesitation

Bad points
The weather wasn't as great as we'd hoped but we did visit in March and it was dry just a little cold outdoors would like to return in the summer months if there are any left!
