A spacious and well furnished town house in a lovely old market town. The house has been lovingly restored as the owners' second home. It contains many of the original features of a 19th century house but has been renovated to cater for modern needs. A sunny and secluded back garden with bbq, loungers and dining table and chairs under a verandah.
Villedieu is a prosperous old market town close to the main tourist sites in Western Normandy and Brittany. There is an excellent road network around the town giving access to Bayeux, landing beaches, Mont St Michel and St Malo. Lovely sandy beaches on the coast around Granville. An easy drive to the ports at Cherbourg or Caen.
The house is in an excellent position for touring, being close to the coast and many major tourist sites. The Normandy second World War landing beaches and cemetries are within easy reach. The countryside around Villedieu is extremely pretty, especially in the spring when the apple blossom is out. Indoor swimming pool in town and tennis courts. Golf and horse riding within half an hour's drive.
Well fitted modern kitchen with full sized cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Very generously provided with utensils, cutlery, china and glasses. Washing machine.
Separate dining room with French tv and woodburner. Seating for 6. Games cupboard and bookshelves. Music centre.

Large double bedroom and smaller twin room. Full bed linen and towels are provided for guests.

There are electric heaters in each room as well as 2 night storage heaters on the ground floor. Large wood burning stove in the sitting room and a smaller one in the dining room. Logs are supplied for early and late bookings.
A very sunny and secluded back garden, being protected by a stone wall. Lawn with surrounding flower beds. Area steps up from the back of the house. There is a verandah outside the kitchen windows with dining table and chairs. Loungers and bbq also provided.
Street parking, either further up the street or around the back of the property in one of the town main car parks.
Because of the wooden staircase and area steps the house is not suitable for very small children (unless carried) or very elderly guests.
Elderly couple living in Dorset close to the Ferry at Poole. We walk, garden and enjoy being in France. The house in Villedieu has been our second home for 25 years and is much loved.

|Why this location?||For us this is an easy journey as Villedieu is approximately 70 miles from Cherbourg or Caen. A lovely old rural town close to the major sites at Mont St Michel and Bayeux, not forgetting the Landing Beaches. Excellent road network with a New major route (A84) connecting the outskirts of Caen with Rennes. Lovely countryside, full of wild flowers, apple trees and more lovely old towns to explore. Granville is the nearest large town and has excellent fish restaurants around the old port.|
|Unique benefits of property||We love being in a town as we live in the countryside just outside Swanage. The house itself is in two parts . The original old part is about 250 years old and then the houses going up the hill were added in the mid1860. Very solidly built and lots of character. For being close to the centre of town it is very quiet and the sunny back garden is a delight for relaxing, listening to the swallows, church bells and children playing opposite.|
An easy drive to Granville which has one of the largest fishing ports in Western France. Marina and daily ferry to Jersey. Excellent restaurants around the old port and atmospheric old town perched on the hill overlooking the sea known as La Citadelle. Interesting Museum in the old town. A little further up the coast is Christian Dior's old family home in Donville. This is now a museum commerating his work and that of future directors of La Maison Dior.
Villedieu is on an excellent road network and gives easy access to the landing beaches, Bayeux, Mont St Michel and St Malo. The countryside has a lot to offer for walks and picnics - large beech forest at Balleroy on the way to Bayeux. Another lovely spot is the river bank from the old port at Dinan and further walks along the coast from St Jean Le Thomas. For history, there are the landing beaches and the Memorial at Caen which commemorates both World Wars and, of course, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont St Michel (never go on a Sunday). One of our favourite excursions is to join the walk to Mont St Michel over the sands from Bec d'Andaine - quite hard going but there is a bus back for the faint hearted. Villedieu, itself, is a very interesting and old town. Luckily for us the second world war went round it so it has maintained its character. Villedieu is rightfully proud of its copper and pewter trades which started at the time of the Crusades. There is also one of the few working Bell Foundries in the centre of town. If, you get lucky they may be pouring large church bells - quite spectacular. They recently made seven of the new bells for Notre Dame de Paris. Lots of little bars and cafes around the town for reasonable and enjoyable meals as well as excellent day to day shopping. Tuesday is market day and one of the best in the area.
An excellent family run zoo. Ideal for all ages. Nearly all the animals are in landscaped surrounding and live as naturally as possible. Restaurant and picnic areas as well as a children's play area.
A lovely stay in a central but quiet townhouse. Well equipped and comfortable with an enclosed rear garden. A few minutes walk to bakers, bars, restaurants and shops. Villedieu is within easy travelling distance of Bayeaux, WW2 landing beaches / museums and Mons saint Michel to name a few and don't overlook the bell foundry and copper pan workshop in the town itself. The house itself is spacious and a typical period French house which for us was part of it's appeal. To sum up it helped make a great holiday base.

So pleased you liked the house. We have tried to keep its character whilst bringing it up to the level of comfort we all enjoy at home. A great base for exploring and site seeing.
Beautiful, traditional house in an excellent location. Very well equipped throughout and was short of nothing in the kitchen, so much so we cooking at "home" every evening. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly have no qualms about recommending this property to others, in fact we would certainly return ourselves. Location is ideal with the coast being within a 25 minute drive and plenty of interesting towns & villages in close proximity.
Great value for money and so, so quiet yet very close to the town centre.

The owner was a pleasure to deal with. In advance of our visit Janet sent us very comprehensive information on the property, the location and things to do and see in the area and made everything easy for us.
The house is spacious, very comfortable and very well equipped. Being located in a quiet street a few steps from the town centre it perfectly combines the convenience of being close to shops and restaurants while having all the tranquillity and calm of a rural location.
It has a lovely private garden that is simply the most fantastic place to sit and relax at any time of the day.
Villedieu is a pretty market town with a good range of shops, bars and restaurants. It also has a very good weekly market. We found the people to be very friendly, warm and welcoming.
The town also has a swimming pool which was a popular feature with our teenagers as were the wifi and tv/dvd facilities in the house.
The property is a short drive from Cherbourg and it’s central location means there are plenty of things to do and places to visit are a short distance away.
The house and it’s location offer a wide range of options for your holiday. Stay local and relax or tour the area and see lots of very interesting places. Dine out in a variety of local restaurants, cook at home in the well equipped kitchen or have delicious takeaway pizza from the nearby pizza restaurant. Or do a combination of all of these and more.
We had a wonderful holiday at 13 Rue Des Ecoles and hope to return to in the future if the opportunity arises.

The property was well equipped and in an excellent location for the town centre, a short stroll for baguettes, restaurants and bars. The property is deceptively spacious and features a charming secluded garden that is bathed in sunshine in the afternoon. The property has an internet connection which was appreciated by my daughter and son.
The details provided by the owner were accurate and provided in a timely fashion.
Vehicles need to be parked thirty metres or so from the property as the road is narrow and there are double yellow lines immediately outside. However, there was no problem in parking the car outside the property for loading and unloading.
The town of Villedieu (Town of God) lived up to its name, very picturesque and there was plenty of interesting sites within relatively short drives e.g. Bayeux, Mont St Michel, D Day beaches etc.
An enjoyable house, location and holiday.
