Married in 1988 and have been living with my wife Michelle in this part of France since 2004.
|Year property purchased||2004|
|Why this location?||We love this part of France it is so peaceful and yet there are plenty of interesting places to visit.|
|Unique benefits of property||Peace and quiet but handily placed to visit the extensive Normandy coastline and historic medieval towns|
The stunning medieval cities of Rennes, St Malo, Dinan and the 'gateway to Brittany' Fougeres are all within an hour or so by car. So too is the Bayeaux Tapestry. Mont St Michel (the most popoular French tourist attraction outside of Paris) is 25 minutes by car.
There is a local water sports park for children, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an aquarium, golf, fishing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding and, for the more adventurous, hang gliding. The ferries for the Channel Islands leave from the ports of St Malo or Granville and the crossing to Jersey takes just 1 1/4 hour by boat or 20 minutes by plane from the local airport in Dinard.
We had a great week in this lovely cottage. It is about a mile from the main road, but feels really rural. There are hardly any cars pass the cottage even though it backs onto a country lane.
The 4 bedrooms have plenty of beds in them plus there's a sofa bed in the lounge - think we worked out you could sleep 20 at a push! Beds were comfortable, though could have done with lighter weight duvets in the summer. Wifi worked most of the time but did drop out from time to time. Could have done with some DVDs, but plenty of books to read in the library on the mezzanine, plus a few board games.
Boys (16 and 14) loved the pool, but it isn't heated so they wore their wetsuits. So big you can actually swim across it! Kitchen pretty well equipped. Could have done with an outside washing line as although it was warm outside, the house being stone walled was always cool.
Plenty to do in this area - Mont St Michel (go early, queues for the bus build up!), Carolles beach was beautiful (take a picnic - the hut on the beach doesn't do takeaway and the one takeaway bar near the car park was dire service), Bayeux amazing - park at the museum/British cemetary and take the little tourist train into town, 24 euros for 4 of us and worth every penny, Cascades were lovely - quite steep and slippery rocky paths/steps though (we went on the way home from the Normandie Ruge/toboggan run in Clecy which was brilliant and well worth the drive; morning is cheaper so go before 12).
We are glad you had a great week thanks for your great comments
We are sorry we missed telling you where the washing lines are located in the garden our fault!
thanks again for your visit
What a fantastic holiday we had.
We went to France so we could unwind, relax and recharge our batteries, which is exactly what we did!
Steve and Michelle were so respectful of our space but were always on hand to help out with anything we needed. They really were the perfect hosts.
We stayed at La Grange with 8 of us in total. 2 families with children aged from 5 to 15. All the children loved the pool and soon felt homely enough in their bedrooms. We all found the beds really comfortable and slept incredibly well.
We loved sitting out by the pool in the afternoon watching the swallows put on a beautiful display for us, this was one of my highlights of our holiday.
Listening to the owls at night whilst drinking France’s grape juice was just glorious.
If you’re wanting a quiet retreat with no disturbances and a homely feel, then come here. It’s lovely. We’ll definitely be back!!!
Thank you for your lovely comments. We enjoyed having you all you were such a pleasant and happy group.
We would be happy to see you all again , you made our week with your laughter and appreciation of all the nature surrounding us .

Absolutely loved our stay at this property. We have stayed in one of Michelle and Steve's houses before and this was definitely our favourite. The photos don't do it justice. It is so spacious.
We were 2 families ( 4 adults and 6 children aged 2-13) the layout worked brilliantly for us. The house was well equipped for all of our needs. Plenty of extras like fans, hairdryers, coffee machine, extra drinks fridge, high chair and washing machine. There was plenty of space inside and outside the property. The children loved the pool even though it was a bit chilly. (The weather wasn't amazing for August!) We made good use of the bbq and outside seating area. Plenty of room to park the vehicles out the way. The house was in a very peaceful area. Great for watching the stars and seeing birds of prey.
The house was a perfect base for travelling around the area. There were loads of beautiful places within an hour. We were recommended Dinard and Carolles. Both were lovely places to visit. Carolles beach was perfect for the children to swim in the sea. We also loved visiting St Malo and Dinan.
The pizzeria in Ducey is well worth a visit. Supermarkets are within easy reach too.
Michelle and Steve were very helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend this property and we will definitely be visiting again.
Thanks very much for your comments.
You were prefect guests and we would be very happy to see you again.
See you soon Steve & Michelle
We were my family of 4 (2 boys 13 and 9) and 3 older grandparents and La Grange catered extremely well for our mixed needs from the beautiful, expansive, well cared for garden to lounge around in, the pool, outside eating area and the comfortable, well-equipped interior of the house.
Michelle and Steve were fantastic. My mother became ill needing visits to doctor and hospital and Michelle was with us all the way giving up her time to go with my parents to appointments to translate and give support. We were bowled over. They were both also very helpful with any practical issues around the house and with suggestions of places to visit and eat. Genuinely lovely people.
La Grange was clean, tidy, full of character and comfy. The bedrooms had a homely feel and my 9 year old commented his bed was the most comfortable one he’s ever slept on. My 13 year old loved the mezzanine futon (with screens provided for privacy) so he could read late. There was ample space to spread out in the downstairs living/eating area. Michelle and Steve have thought of everything you’d need to smooth the way for a really great holiday.
Recommendations: The Boulangerie at Isigny, an evening swim at Carolles-plage followed by a meal at the closest restaurant.
Not recommended: Mont Saint-Michel in the heat with an elderly relative and kids who don’t like being in crowds and queues!
Thanks so much!
Thanks Sophie we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and would love to welcome you back, you were the perfect guests.
