La Grange is a 5 bedroom 17th century timber framed house, which has recently been refurbished to provide a comfortable family home, whilst retaining much of it's old world charm.
It is situated in its own private gardens amidst rolling Normandy countryside. A tranquil setting yet within easy reach of several delightful market towns, a host of sandy beaches, fishing, golf and watersports.
La Grange has a well equipped kitchen with an electric oven, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave, coffee percolator and washing machine. There is also a table to seat 4 and a larger dining table available in the adjoining room.
A large downstairs living room provides comfortable seating for all and enjoys the benefit of a wood burning stove (wood provided between September and April). There is additional sitting area on the first floor which can also be used as a 5th bedroom if required.
Bedroom 1 has a king size bed. Bedroom 2 has two single beds . Bedroom 3 has 1 double bed (an additional single can be added if required). Bedroom 4 has 3 single beds . Bedroom 5 is a mezzanine where a double futon bed can be used. In addition there is a double bed settee in the lounge on the ground floor.
The downstairs bathroom has a full sized bath, wc and shower. The upstairs bathroom has a wc and shower.
A large wood burning stove in the lounge can heat the whole house (wood is provided in the rental price between the months of September and April). Each room is also equipped with an electric radiator, electricity use is included in the rental for the months of June, July and August but is charged at cost for other rental periods.
A tourist tax (taxe de sejour) is payable (for visitors over the age of 12) at the rate of 33 cents per person per night.
English satellite tv is available, as is a dvd player, books and a variety of boardgames.
La Grange has it's own private gardens of around 1/3 acre with a private 18 foot circular swimming pool (depth 4 foot). The pool is open for the months of June, July, August. It has a terrace area with ample seating and a brick barbecue
Ample parking for 4 cars.
The stunning medieval cities of Rennes, St Malo, Dinan and the 'gateway to Brittany' Fougeres are all within an hour or so by car. So too is the Bayeaux Tapestry. Mont St Michel (the most popoular French tourist attraction outside of Paris) is 25 minutes by car.
There is a local water sports park for children, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an aquarium, golf, fishing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding and, for the more adventurous, hang gliding. The ferries for the Channel Islands leave from the ports of St Malo or Granville and the crossing to Jersey takes just 1 1/4 hour by boat or 20 minutes by plane from the local airport in Dinard.
We had a lovely holiday at La Grange.
2 adults & 3 children... aged 13, 6 & 3.
Hosts Steve and Michelle were great, nothing was too much trouble.
The property was clean and very well maintained.
We made good use of swimming pool and used the barbecue most days.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone.
Thanks for everything.
We had a wonderful holiday at la Grange. Nine of us including teenagers enjoyed all the facilities. The photos and description really don't do the gite justice.the pool was used every day,the WiFi was excellent (a must with teenagers).our hosts Steve and Michelle were great nothing was too much trouble.the property was clean and very well maintained with far more equipment than we expected.
This area is great for getting to Le mont st Michael,st malo, fougeres, the waterfalls at Mortain.st hilaire du Harcourt is the nearest town with supermarkets bars ,cafes.and a couple of good restaurants we ate mainly at the gite making good use of the barbecue we would have no hesitation in recommending the gite to anyone and we will certainly be back!
Steve and Michelle made us feel very welcome and the converted barn is spacious and comfortable. All the facilities are spot on. We were looking for a week in the countryside and to enjoy peace and quiet...and it was perfect for that. You have to accept that it is out in the middle of nowhere - but to us it was exactly what we were looking for. We could still go out for days to visit the Normandy beaches, Caen, Mont St Michel and the coastline south but we always knew we could then come back to this sanctuary. For our daughter as long as she had Wifi she was happy and the signal was strong in the barn. I can thoroughly recommend La Grange as a place just to get away from the normal hurry scurry of modern day life we all suffer.
Ideal spot to explore this part of France
