About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Nigel Collins

Bonjour! We are Nigel and Cathy and would love to welcome you to our home in Normandy.

Year property purchased 2013
Why this location? We chose this part of France as we love the beauty of the rolling Normandy countryside, it’s temperate climate and close distance to the UK, plus there is so much to do in this area for all members of the family. And not forgetting our fantastic views!
Unique benefits of property Whether you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful stay or a more active holiday we have it all! Our property is equally suitable for families or adults just looking for a bit of peace and quiet, and as you have exclusive use there'll be no sharing with other families. With our 3 acres of gardens there is plenty of space for just sitting and admiring our fabulous views with a glass of wine or maybe painting or drawing, or if you come with children there is plenty of space for them to let off steam. Our pony rides, archery and the indoor playroom have been particularly popular this year.

The Owner Recommends

Beaches

Just 10 minutes drive away we have the beautiful Lake Dathee with its sailing club and safe sandy beach, ideal for children. You may take our kayaks and windsurfer here or hire a catamaran or pedaloes - a great relaxing day. If you want bigger sandy beaches with good facilities head for Carolles and Julloville just south of Granville with great views of Mont St Michel (approx. 45 minutes drive). If you have time after the beach then head up to the delightful old town, ‘chic’ marinas, shops and harbours of Granville which are well worth the visit. The Normandy Landing beaches are 1 - 1.5 hour's drive away from our farmhouse and should not be missed.

D-Day Landings

The D-day landings changed the course of World War II and without them, life for us may now be very different. The landing beaches are well preserved and tell the amazing story of what happened and the bravery and courage of the troops who took part. The beaches are about 1-1.5 hour drive and well worth the trip, especially if you combine it with a visit to the stunning cathedral and tapestry at nearby Bayeaux.

Family Attractions

There are numerous family attractions under an hour from us, some of which are Jurques Zoo, Champrepus Zoo, The Enchanted Village, Festyland, Alligator Bay, Souleuvre luge.

For the More Adventurous and Active

Swiss Normandy - This is a beautiful and spectacular area about a 30 minute drive away with lots to see and do that owes its name to the canyons and lush valleys that have been carved by the rivers flowing through it. Head for Pont d'Ouilly for walking, tree cilmbing, kayak hire and cycling, or go to Clecy for boat rides, kayaking, riverside restaurants, rock climbing, a miniature railway and luge. Alternatively, follow the 19 mile circular Gorges of Vire Route from Vire which takes in some of the more dramatic scenery of the area. For the much more daring go to Souleuvre viaduct, 30 minutes drive away from the gite, where you can bungee jump 60 metres or use the zip wires if you fancy!

Golf

If you are a golfer why not spend a day on the picturesque 18-hole golf course at Lake Dathee which is within 10 minutes drive of our farmhouse. Enjoy a drink and bite to eat afterwards in the friendly English speaking clubhouse overlooking the lake. Visitors and juniors welcomed throughout the year and there is also a driving range.

Le Mont St Michel

Le Mont St Michel is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Normandy and is one hour's drive away, so not to be missed! It’s a truly breath-taking place, especially the wonderful monastery at the top.

Local towns and villages

Vire is 15 minutes drive away and has a good range of shops and restaurants plus a large gourmet market on Fridays, the largest in Calvados, and Aquavire - an impressive water park. Sourdeval is a pretty market town 10 minutes drive away with many shops and restaurants.

Stunning Views, Restaurants and Markets

If you enjoy painting or photography then our stunning views with soaring buzzards and the unpolluted night time skies crammed full of stars won't disappoint. You'll be spoilt for choice with the selection of award winning restaurants nearby and if you really want to sample the local delicacies then visit one of the markets where you'll find amongst other things local cheese, dairy, fruit and sausages and, of course, the famous calvados brandy!

We spent a lovely fortnight in this beautiful farmhouse and enjoyed ourselves despite variable weather. Cathy and Nigel were excellent hosts, always on hand for useful local information and help if required. This property is ideal for large family groups of all ages and is particularly well equipped for children with a fantastic playroom. Our children loved their ride on Mollie, the horse and playing with Boo, the Labrador.

The area is lovely, with lots to do. We visited the castle at Falaise, Bayeaux, the viaduct, Festyland and loads more. The town of Vire is not far and has large supermarkets and we enjoyed eating lunch at 'Le Robbery'.

We would recommend this property highly for a great holiday.

Lovely setting, comfortable gite, highlight of stay was the open fire which made it so warm and very cosy. Basic condiments were provided for which is a bonus. Thank you Cathy for the lovely cakes, a most welcome break on arrival.
Good base for sight seeing.
Family loved the farm animals I.e. 2 ponies and Boo the dog plus others. I'm sure the gite and surroundings would have been beautiful in the summer.
