When our children left home we felt it was time to move to pastures new, so when the opportunity arose we purchased La Buissonniere & moved to France. After working in agriculture, cheesemaking & insurance amongst others for most of our working lives, we love living at La Buissonniere. We have got to know some good, like-minded neighbours who promote the traditional French way of life & culture & our favourite pastimes include visiting local cider farms & rummaging through fascinating brocantes

|Why this location?||Having taken many family holidays in various areas of France over the years we grew to love the country and Normandy in particular, so when the opportunity arose we decided to up sticks in the UK and make our home here, knowing that it is still easy to return to the UK to visit our family regularly. The house layout at La Buissonniere made it possible to create a gite and the spacious land has enabled us to fulfil our dream of having a few animals, and growing and producing as much of our own food as we can. Living here enables us to live a country life on a small scale to suit us, with sheep, chickens, & during the summer months, a handful of beautiful heifers belonging to our neighbouring farmer, who also supplies us with a little milk to occasionally make cheese. Our garden provides us with fresh fruit and veg & seasonal jam making is in abundance throughout the summer! We love being surrounded by fields and woodlands but knowing we are only 5 minutes away from the nearest village.|
|Unique benefits of property||La Buissonniere is comfortable, spacious and clean and perfect for a family holiday for all ages. It is all on the ground floor, which makes it suitable for small children with no stairs to fall down, or for guests with limited mobility with no stairs to climb up! Completely surrounded by fields and woodland it is just so peaceful. All of our guests have loved the tranquility of our gite and go home feeling very relaxed and refreshed after spending their holiday here. You can do as much or as little as you want, either by soaking up the sun in your own secluded garden, making use of the bikes available to guests, or just watching the wildlife that visits La Buissonniere throughout the seasons. However, our ideal location means you can also venture further to explore the beautiful Normandy countryside, coastlines, and history, with so much to see locally or within an hours drive from the gite.|
Activities for the children include the beaches of Granville and Cancale, the Enchanted Village of Bellefontaine, Ange Michel, Alligator Bay, Raptor Park, Champrepus Zoo, and Falaise Castle with its excellent interactive treasure hunt. There are also several lovely parks with plenty of children's activities, pedalos, fishing, etc, as well as indoor and outdoor swimming pools nd an aquapark. Disneyland Paris is certainly do-able from La Buissonniere and several of our guests have made successful visits to Mickey Mouse! A variety of tourist leaflets are available at the property.
If you don't wish to venture too far there are numerous museums and Brocantes in the area to pass an enjoyable hour or two exploring bygone days and past heritage. Or, as the region is apple country, why not visit a local ciderie and sample their delicious offerings which go down very well with a good book in the garden on a hot summers day. The surrounding area is good for walking and cycling, with a network of Voies Verte in the region, and there are a variety of lakes in the area which offer day fishing.
Le Teilleul is only a 5 minute drive away and offers a choice of 2 bars and 2 restaurants, 2 boulangeries, 2 banks, a butchery and a small but very well stocked supermarket. There is a market each Thursday in the village square.
The Normandy D-day landing beaches and military cemeteries at Caen are just 90 minutes away from La Buissonniere, and Mont St. Michel, St. Malo, Rennes, William the Conqueror's birth town of Falaise, Bayeaux, Avranches, Villiedieu Les Poeles, Flers, Laval and the stunning medieval town of Fougeres are all within easy driving distance.
The town of Mortain has an open air swimming pool which operates during the summer months.
The larger town of St Hilaire du Harcouet has a good selection of shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and banks as well as two large supermarkets, indoor swimming pool and children's park with lake and pitch and putt. There is a large weekly market on Wednesday mornings selling a wide variety of products including fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat, bread, clothing, housewares and livestock. Several of the surrounding towns and villages also have smaller regional markets throughout the week.

Thank you so much for your review. It was great to meet you all and we're so pleased you had an enjoyable stay xx
A wonderful stay at La Buissoniere, with genial hosts Sandra and Richard.
We loved the baguette, milk and fresh eggs when we arrived and little touches such as handmade soap and hot water bottles made it really homely.
The shower was wonderful and although we were only here for a few days, we could quite comfortably have stayed here for much longer.
The gite is 4km from Le Teilleul, but we liked Barenton, also close by.
Would thoroughly recommend.
Thanks for your lovely review Hayley. It was lovely to meet you both and we do so hope we can welcome you back in the future.
Spent three wonderful restful weeks at La Buissonniere enjoying the facilities, ambiance, wonderful countryside, friendly and caring hospitality of Sandra and Richard especially the fresh eggs.
There were many places to visit from smaller villages to the coast, from chateaux to the Bayeux Tapestry, from walks along meandering streams to dynamic waterfalls and much more not mentioned.
I would just recommend that you make it your own experience whether as a family with children or couples.
Thank you so much, Jan, for your wonderful review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday at La Buissonniere. It was lovely to meet you and we would love to welcome you back at any time in the future. xx
This pretty, cosy and comfortable little gite initiated in the heart off rural South Normandy is run by Sandra & Richard, a friendly, welcoming couple who live in the other part of this long, stone building, so are on hand for any issues but very discreet, leaving you alone to enjoy your stay unless you need them. A tiled, open-plan dining, kitchen & living area (with rugs) is easy to keep clean, pleasant to spend time in & cool when it's hot outside (we've only been in August). Badminton rackets & net, swingball & other games are provided, as are some novels & DVDs but, for us, the real joy has been exploring the Normandy countryside, visiting its picturesque towns & villages and their markets, and coming back to comfort and cooking and eating the local produce. I love to cook and the kitchen area is set up for simple cooking, with an efficient gas cooker, an enjoyable space in which to prep food while still being with your family. No complex kitchen gear here (though the coffee machine is handy) but everything is in its place & you have all you need for family meals, plus a sunny and private decking ares with garden table, chairs loungers & barbecue. The written info & advice is helpful , comprehensive & geared toward your having a relaxed and enjoyable stay. The welcome pack with is a generous touch. I love this place. It is amazing value, a great base for visiting this part of France &, simply, a little gem. We have been twice now & cannot recommend it highly enough.
Thank you Andrew for your comprehensive review, and thank you for letting us know a problem you experienced with the scoring has resulted in a lower score than you intended - it's still a good score thank you! We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope we can welcome you back again next year for a third visit.
