About the Owner/Advertiser, Miss Pauline Blackburn

We visited Normandy in September 2005 just to view a few properties or so we thought. We viewed one property then arrived at this one to which we fell totally in love with. It was like going back in time to our youth. In early 2006 we moved here from Yorkshire with our family pets 2 ponies and a dog. The area is so peaceful, rural yet not too far to amenitities.

Year property purchased 2006
Why this location? It made us feel young again. We just fell in love with the location it took us back to happy times, both of us has children came from a farming background riding and driving ponies, keeping pigs collecting fresh eggs, fresh vegetables not forgetting fresh milk from the farm.
Unique benefits of property Set in a fabulous location on a quiet country lane Perfect to relax and enjoy the peace.

Great little gite for two in rural France

If you're looking for somewhere away from the 'Madding Crowd' then this is one of them. Even Google hasn't driven down the road that Le Grenier is situated on!! Or the one before that!!
A place to relax and unwind, with just the wind in the trees, bird song, hens and the odd tractor to break the silence.
Your hosts, Pauline & Phil, live in the attached property and are on hand with any queries, information about the local area or just a 'natter' over the fence.
You will be made very welcome with a bottle of wine and baguette, with cheese, butter and milk in the fridge. We even had a cup of Yorkshire tea with Phil when we arrived, nice touch.
The gite is very well equipped all on one level upstairs in a converted barn and was perfect for us as a couple. Pauline adds some little welcome touches like you might find in a nice hotel.

Owner response

Thank you for your kind words we are so pleased you enjoyed our little piece of Normandy.
It was a pleasure meeting you both. Would love to welcome you back for a Yorkshire tea anytime.

What a lovely Gite and lovely couple owning it. The Gite had everything needed and was very well equipped. Fantastic large bathroom with shower cubicle and bath. Gite was lovely and clean and very comfortable. Pauline and Phil are very friendly and easy going people. Really enjoyed talking to Phil in his quirky well tended garden. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Parking was brilliant parking spot on the property next to Gite. Pauline told us of a car boot sale which was amazing over 300 stalls. We travelled all over Normandy and found it a pleasure driving as the roads were never full with traffic. Visited the DDay landing beaches which was well worth the visit. English TV was also a bonus as we got to watch World Cup matches. Really enjoyed our visit was totally relaxing and will look forward to returning. Our dog was so at home Phil even asked us to leave him! Thanks for a brilliant stay. Karen and Jim.

A delightful peaceful retreat for one or two people.

The owners do everything that they can to make your stay perfect, from the get you in pack, fresh eggs and salads from their garden, toiletries, towelling dressing gowns, sweets on the pillow and genuine friendliness.

The nearby village of Ger (3 miles) has a small store and two bars, there are restaurants within 7 - 10 miles. The immediate area is not strong on tourist sites, but the countryside is beautiful and Mont St Michael is drivable, so are Caen and Bayeux but it would be a day trip.

If you want to get away from it all and de-stress, this is the place to be.

Owner response

Thank you We are so pleased you liked the gite and enjoyed the countryside here in this lovely part of Normandie.

Myself & my girlfriend stayed for a couple of nights whilst on a road trip on my motorbike. We were able to park in the barn which was great. From the moment we arrived which was fairly late after the sat nav didn’t like us we were welcomed to the very cosy apartment with a cup of tea & some local calvados type drink which was lovely. The welcome pack of bread, cheese, butter, biscuits & wine went down very well as it was late as was my special request for a cider - ha! (Thank you!)
The apartment had everything you needed for a comfortable stay with plenty of space & the bed was very comfortable. We had fresh eggs in the morning from there own chickens which were delicious. We made use of the bbq on the second night & enjoyed the company of the host’s very much.
The grounds were amazing to walk around & very peaceful & relaxing & full of wildlife & animals. These animals included - cat, dog, chickens, horse, goat, ducks, quails, fish & the local wildlife!
It was lovely meeting & Pauline & Phil & hearing lots of stories. I would love to visit again one day.
Thank you
