Normandy Gite Holidays is a converted barn in Gavray, Normandy. It is spacious and is decorated in a contemporary style while maintaining the character of the original building. The original barn doors have been replaced with a wall of glass to allow light to flood in to the generous entrance hall. A utility room is located just off the entrance hall. The utility room houses the boiler, washing machine and downstairs cloakroom. A sociable and well equipped kitchen and dining area can be found to one side of the hallway. On the other side is the lounge which has a door leading out onto the patio and garden. The lounge has English and French tv together with a well stocked bookcase. Central heating is provided throughout the property and a woodburning stove has been installed in the lounge.
Upstairs you'll find 3 bedrooms and 2 large shower rooms. The master bedroom is decorated in restful tones of cream, taupe and black. A comfy king sized bed, ample storage and the en suite shower room will ensure your comfort. The 2 remaining bedrooms share a large shower room. Both bedrooms can be made up with twin beds or a super king sized bed. The bedrooms windows have shutters which act as black out blinds to ensure a restful night.
Parking is at the front of the gite in the courtyard. To the rear of the property, a fenced garden has been created comprising a lawned area, flower beds, and a gravelled patio area with outside seating.
A travel cot, stair gate and high chair can be provided. Additional baby/toddler equipment such as plastic crockery/cutlery and a blender is also available. Indoor and outdoor games, toys, books and DVDs are supplied.
Gavray is equidistant from Granville, Coutances and Villedieu-les-Pôeles in La Manche region of Normandy. There is so much to see and do in the region that I regularly blog about how you can spend your holiday in Normandy. Mont St Michel, the D-Day landing beaches and Bayeux are all within easy reach. Closer to the gite is a zoo, aquarium, ruined abbey, chateaux, mini golf and a whole coastline of beaches to choose from. For a more active holiday, golf, fishing, watersports, horseriding, cycling and walking are all accessible. For a more relaxed holiday, there are historical sights to visit, markets to browse, quaint villages to stroll around and long lunches to be had. For the gourmets, there are often food and drink events held and you can visit producers for tastings and demonstrations.
Well equipped and can accommodate up to 6 people comfortably. A generous dining table seats 6 people comfortably. An electric oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee-maker are provided.
The seating comprises 2 comfortable sofas with throws for cosy winter evenings. You'll also find French and English tv, a dvd player, books and a woodburning stove.

I'm a francophile with a passion for house renovation. When the opportunity came up to buy a property and develop an outbuilding, I jumped at it. It has been both enjoyable and challenging at times but the end result is a property I'm very proud of and the hard work has been worth it.

|Why this location?||The property is easily accessible from both Caen (1 hour) and Cherbourg (90 minutes). However, it's far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the UK to make you feel that you've had a real break. Normandy is still relatively quiet and unspoilt with guests remarking on the slower pace of life here. The fantastic coastline and endless beaches are very popular. Normandy is rich in history and the key sites of Mont St Michel, Bayeux and the D-Day landing beaches are all very accessible. There are plenty of other activities closer to the gite and exploring the area is something I've really enjoyed. I hope you'll enjoy discovering all that Normandy has to offer.|
|Unique benefits of property||The gite is a former stone and cob outbuilding which was used as a stable by the previous owners. It has been lovingly transformed into a spacious and comfortable holiday home. The decor is contemporary and it is well equipped. Located just 60 minutes from Caen or 90 minutes from Cherbourg makes it an easy journey for visitors. It is equidistant from the towns of Granville, Villedieu-les-Poeles and Coutances and the perfect base for exploring La Manche region of Normandy.|
There is so much to write about that I have a regular blog for things to do and see here. You can find my Insider's Guide to Normandy at www.normandygiteholidays.com which is frequently updated with information to help you to enjoy your holiday. I also post on Facebook at www.facebook.com/gavraygiterentals with images from around the area. Mont St Michel, the D-Day landing beaches and Bayeux are often top of visitors' lists. The nearest beach is 9 miles/15k away but with an entire coastline to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice. Quaint villages, bustling markets, food and drinks tastings, abbeys, churches, chateaux and much more awaits. Water sports, golf, cycling, walking and horse riding can also be accessed nearby.
We were pleased to come back again for the third year. We found that despite a busy season earlier, the place was just like new again because the owner Chris has a philosophy of investing back in the gite and replacing worn and tired items as necessary. Chris has a passion for looking after her gite and her guests. It is a lifestyle choice which she very much enjoys. This perfect hostess tends her gardens as well. They were pretty and colourful. The dark sky was so beautiful because the gite is distant from the light haze that many towns and cities suffer from in the evening. Just sit back and look at the stars for a while and your mind will be clear again ready for that refreshing night sleep which you so deserve. The place is so peaceful with no farm cockerel to wake you at 4am or noisy farm tractors disurbing the early dawn.To add to the atmosphere I launched my music app on my ipad and prepared breakfast to distant church bells one morning. The next morning I chose some French music to serenade me with the fresh warm croissants which I had bought at the boulangerie in Gavray. To add toour experience we paddled a mile along the French beaches giving our feet a well desrved sand scrub and we also spent a day in Domfront which is a pretty medieaval town perched on a hill with a runied castle and quaint buildin. I nearly forgot, we had time time to visit the French shops where it was sale time. We joined the French people and deprived them of some bargain haute coutue fashion.
Thank you for such a wonderful review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your return trip to the gîte. As usual, you took great care of the gite and left it beautifully clean and tidy. And thank you for the gift of a jar of homemade honey - that was very kind. The garden is certainly more mature than the first time you visited. It's progressing nicely considering it was created from scratch and just used to be a field. I really hope that it provides a relaxing space. The boulangeries are certainly tempting but that's such a big part of a holiday in France. Counting calories isn't a holiday activity when there are far more interesting things to do. You also had fabulous weather while you were here. I'm delighted you had such a great time and look forward to welcoming you back at some point in the future.
Ok, so the Easter weather wasn’t up to much! But the Gite more than made up for this. A home from home with all the conveniences and warmth required! Plenty of space to enjoy ourselves, cooking reading and playing board games etc as well as frequent trips out & about . Thank you also to our wonderful host who was on hand as and when required; we will be returning!
At least it hasn't snowed! And the weather might pick up in the next few days. Hopefully the supply of logs has kept you extra toasty warm and you've had a reason to stay in and enjoy some yummy Easter chocolate. (Thank you so much for my Easter pressie by the way - so incredibly thoughtful of you.) I'm pleased you've been able to get out and about and enjoy some of the delights of Normandy. I can promise you we do get good weather so a good reason to plan a return trip :-)
Perfect! A lovely gite in an excellent location for exploring the area. The property is beautifully converted, incredibly comfortable and clean, and very well equipped with many thoughtful touches. The owner was always most helpful from booking through to our stay and was very happy to help if we had any questions about the gite or the area. Our family had a fantastic holiday staying at Maison Ella, and we hope to return again. We would highly recommend this beautiful property.
Thank you for your lovely comments. It was a pleasure to welcome you to a part of Normandy you know well. It was great to chat to you to find out the sights you decided to visit this time. Many thanks for choosing Maison Ella and I look forward to welcoming back you on your next Normandy holiday.
A beautiful house in a fantastic rural location which is ideal for visiting Le Mont St Michel and all the sites that you would wish to visit in Normandy. The property is presented to an extremely high standard, is spotlessly clean and is very well equipped with everything you need to ensure a comfortable stay. The owner is on hand if required to offer guidance about the property or advice on site seeing in the local area. Excellent restaurants, local markets and shops are all within easy reach. I would very happily stay here again!
Such lovely comments both here and in my gite guest book, Fiona! It was great to welcome you and your family to Normandy and I'm so pleased you enjoyed it. You certainly managed to pack a lot into your time here as there were still plenty of attractions open. I'm glad you got to visit the chateau at Gratot as well. I hope you have some wonderful Normandy memories and it would be a pleasure to welcome you back.
