We have endeavoured to make Le Fresne a home from home for your little ones. The house is equipped with everything you might need avoiding the military precision packing that self catering holidays usually entail.
The day we first spotted the house, even with a tumbledown roof and the neighbour’s cows living inside, we knew it could be turned into a beautiful family home. We spent 8 years restoring the place to its former glory, and now our own family is grown you will find Le Fresne has been maintained to a high standard and provides everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable holiday.

|Why this location?||Why Normandy? When we first came here 20 years ago we fell in love with the area and the French way of life and we want you to love it too. We found Vezins to be ideally placed for all that Normandy has to offer, from lush rolling countryside to rivers and lakes, and yet still only 20 minutes from the glorious beaches of the Cotentin Coastline and the Bay of Mont St Michel.
|Unique benefits of property||Whether you are looking for total relaxation or adventure you will find everything you need in this beautiful corner of Normandy.|
Just a short drive away Avranches has some wonderful streets for shopping, garden admirers and historians alike. From The Jardin des Plantes is a fantastic view across the bay of le Mont St Michel.
6 km away is our nearest town. It is host to the historical Montgommery Chateau, which is often open to the public for exhibitions and tours. During the summer months the grounds are surrounded by magnificent floral displays. A supermarket is to be found here, as is a bank, two dispensing Chemists, a pizzeria, a creperie, two bars, an excellent restaurant specialising (not exclusively) in seafood, butchers, tabacs and of course boulangeries!
There's still so much more to do: benefit from the sea air on the nearby stretches of sandy beach between Genets and Granville. Visit France's premier spa town of Bagnoles De L'Orne or the medieval town of Fougeres. An hour’s drive will take you to Bayeux, with its spectacular cathedral and tapestry, Caen, the cultural centre of Basse-Normandie and Rennes, the capital of Brittany Take a boat trip down the river Rance visiting the medieval town of Dinan. Further a field you can reach the Chateaux of the Loire in 2 1/2 hours or even Paris in 3 or a boat trip can take you to the islands of Jersey or Guernsey.
Just 20 minutes (22Km) away by car, the island monastery is today the second most visited tourist attraction in France (after the Eiffel Tower) - and is a truly spectacular site located just off the coast of Brittany. It is delightful at any time, but particularly enchanting at night. Whilst it is quite a climb to the top the views over the bay are spectacular!
to be found 9km away. Whilst a lot larger than Ducey it has certainly not lost its charm. With numerous bars and restaurants, the pavement culture is much in evidence. The local Wednesday market here is the biggest weekly agricultural market in Normandy.
has many beaches and sights typical of the Normandy region. A little further west brings you to the edge of Brittany and the beautiful seaside town of CANCALE celebrated for its oyster farms. The coast road continues past some glorious beaches to the magnificent walled city of ST MALO with its abundant shops and restaurants.
We were lucky enough to stay at le fresne for the whole of June with family and friends. Our hosts Karen and Gill who own the property were extremely helpful in recommending places to visit, see and restaurants to eat at in the near vicinity. Not that we needed to go out because the house and gardens have everything you can possibly need for the young and the not so young! Plenty of choices to sit to enjoy a cup of coffee and a croissant in the morning, or perhaps lunch on the veranda and bbq and sit around the pool in the evening. Our niece learned to swim in the pool and others improved their swimming whilst there. I read a ton of books and cycled a lot. We could have lived off the strawberries and raspberries in the garden (ok I am exaggerating here). This place has it all. We have booked for next year and look forward to returning in plenty of years to come.
We were a family of 11 people, aged from 4yrs to 74yrs. Le Fresne exceeded our expectations. It is very well equipped with games, sky tv, everything needed in the kitchen for a large number and of cause the pool, games room and large expanse of garden to enjoy family ball games. For younger children there are swings and play houses. We enjoyed sitting together for meals inside and out around the large tables. The male members of the family barbecued on many occasions. Gil and Karen, the owners are delightful and although they live close by they are helpful and friendly without being intrusive. I very rarely give reviews but I cannot praise this Gite enough. Thank you Gil and Karen. We are planning to return.
We visited Le Fresne this August with family ages ranging 73-10.
When we arrived at the property we were greeted by Karen and Gil our amazingly welcoming and friendly hosts, who keep the property and gardens so immaculate. They also were on hand to point us in the direction of some local 'must sees' L'Autrecafe was a must see!
The property was stunning with plenty of room for all 13 of us, all of the amenities were all provided, we were very grateful for the dishwasher, washing machine, and several bathrooms!
The pool and pool room were a great hit with all.
The size of the house allowed family dining, but also space so that we could spread out and have quieter times when needed.
The roads around the property were very quiet which meant that we could let the children (ages 10-14) play outside on bikes and skateboards without any concerns.
We would definitely recommend this property and hope to visit again.
Dear Kerrie, Will and family
Thank you so much for your kind words. It was an absolute pleasure for us have you stay and to hear that you had such a good time. You have such an interesting and enthusiastic family. We are missing the banjo playing and the sound of you all having fun. Please send our thanks again to Rod for the sketches and we hope to see you all again one day.

We were a family party of 11 people with the age range from 4 years to 74 years. This property was wonderful. The ambience of the building, the spacious garden with swimming pool, goal nets, play houses, room with pool table, sky tv, board games, cards, dvds and being able to sit together for meals around the large tables both inside and out was superb. The gite was spotless and very well equipped to suit the needs required for large numbers of all ages. The owners, Gill and Karen are delightful. Very helpful when needed, friendly but not intrusive. A lovely couple. The surrounding area has a lot of interest. Beautiful Normandy countryside, a good market on Wednesday at a nearby town, Mont St Michel is a big attraction, well run but very busy. Ducey, the nearby village has a recommended walking route and a chateau with a ‘Who Done It Quiz’ for children. Also a good Carrefour for provisions. Close by are attractions for adults, younger and older children. Everyone agreed we had a wonderful holiday and would return to this Gite. A very big thankyou to Karen and Gill for having such a great property.
Thank you so much Beryl for your wonderful review, it is very much appreciated. We very much enjoyed having you stay at Le Fresne and would be delighted to see you and your family again in the future.
Very best wishes
Karen and Gil
