La Goupilliere is a spacious detached 18th century stone house with 5 bedrooms, set in private gardens of about 2.5 acres. The house is situated at the end of a private lane, is not overseen and offers views across open fields. It is ideal for relaxing, very quiet at night, and offers a truly de-stressing experience.
The house has been owned by the same English family for the last 8 years who have enjoyed furnishing it with locally-purchased items. The house is sympathetically decorated to enhance the character of the property and has some wonderful granite stone features.
The house is just 2 miles from our closest town, Percy which is situated on the Route de Liberte (D999) which is the route the Allied Troops took after the D-Day landing to recapture France from the Germans during the Second World War in 1945. In Percy you will find shops and a supermarket. The larger town of Villedieu Les Poeles is 10 minutes away and has an indoor swimming pool. Villedieu has an array of interesting shops, a large supermarket, restaurants and is famed for its pretty copper ware.
There are a number of local villages to explore and French markets to visit on Tuesday (Villedieu-les-Poeles), Wednesday and Saturday (Gavray), Saturday (Percy) each offering a range of local fresh produce to buy and local crafts too. Nearby attractions include the unspoilt Atlantic beaches, Mont St Michel, the Normandy Landing beaches and Museums, Bayeux, Dior Museum, golf, zoos, go-karting and some splendid, un-pretentious but yummy restaurants....and loads loads more.
There is a kitchen with large dining area seating 10. The kitchen is equipped with electric oven and 4 ring gas hob and microwave. There are two fridges, (one a fridge freezer), a dishwasher and a washing machine with internal and external clothes driers.
The lounge has two large sofas and an assortment of chairs, with a wonderful open fire to relax in front of, play cards, board games or just watch films. There is a large flatscreen tv and dvd player, and i-pod docking station with speaker.
Under the children’s bedroom there is a well-equipped play room with a second tv/dvd player, loads of games, toys, chalkboards etc.
The house boasts 5 bedrooms:
- 4 with double beds (incl 1 with a 3rd full-sized single bed).
- 1 additional large room with 4 single beds, ideal for children.
There are two large bathrooms one with a shower/bath and the other with a shower, providing ample facilities. One bathroom offers double sinks. Each each shower has a step over to enter, hence unsuitable for the elderly or infirm.
Heating is by electric wall heaters, individually programmable.
2 tvs with dvd players, cd player, i-pod speaker, wi-fi available.
We have a large garden surrounding the house for you to enjoy. The huge grassed area is great for football, cricket, badminton, boules or just sunbathing.
There is a large patio area for outside dining and a second sun-terrace ideal for enjoying the late evenings under the star filled skies. There is a charcoal bbq for your use.
There is an orchard area with a pond (unfenced), a large ancient stone storage barn and a stone well. Small children must therefore be supervised at all times.
There is ample parking for at least 5 cars.
Not suitable for the elderly or infirm due to step in showers.
We are an English family, living in Buckinghamshire with 3 boys, now teenagers, who have grown up holidaying in our house in France
|Year property purchased||2008|
|Why this location?||We wanted somewhere where the kids could have freedom and space, and which was easily reachable for a long-weekend, without having to commit to the expense of flights|
|Unique benefits of property||We bought the house for ourselves, and this is reflected in the quality and condition. It's a beautiful house, with a huge garden, ideal for a large family or 2 families sharing|
(North of Mont St Michel) – for the reptile lover – exit A84 at J32 to avoid traffic. Our boys love this. Look up the feeding times for the crocs.
A wonderful town with a variety of shopping opportunities. The historic Bayeux tapestry is world famous and the tour includes free audio guides. Worth booking or getting there early.
A beautiful pink house in Dior’s birth place, Granville, displaying a huge range of Dior’s designs through the ages. Numbers in the house are limited so you may need to queue. The gardens are beautifully manicured and free to walk around and there is a lovely café serving tea in proper china teapots and cups and saucers!! Have lunch at Le Port
On the Caen ringroad. A good selection of rides for a range of ages. Not too scary but worth a day out for children up to 12 years. Older than that may want more thrills.
Le Parc Sainte Pience – excellent – outdoor karting for all ages and speeds – www.kartingduparc.fr
A must see venue. The new E12 park and ride system may mean it’s a bit crowded so pick a quieter time to visit. There are a variety of restaurants at Mont St Michel – not cheap and not always very good. Visit La Fermerre just to the south of the park and ride - very good food and the Plat du Jour is always good value
Heading towards Caen, and about an hour away, there are a selection of D-Day landing beaches to visit -Juno, Sword, Gold, Utah and Omaha are all within easy day-trip reach There are a large number of museums to visit, thoughtfully designed to sympathetically display the fascinating artefacts from the Second World War. Museums of note are: • St Mere Eglise – recently redesigned – has amazing interactive displays. • Dead Man’s Corner Museum - St Come Du Mont, Carentan. Small WWII museum with amazing shop. Excellent. Band of Brothers fans will not be disappointed. • Pegasus Bridge – really good museum and a great little café across the bridge in the first house ever liberated in France – famously still run by the little girl who lived there
West of Villedieu – excellent for all ages. Never get bored of visiting and the animals always look happy!
AJ Hackett, Viaduc de la Souleuvre. Superb facility, professionally run. Not just Bungee, but other rides and experiences, and a nice picnic area.
We have stayed here a few times and it is brilliant! The location is fabulous with lots of open space outside and plenty of room inside. There is a lot to see and do nearby and makes a good location for Normandy beaches touring.
Thank you Megan for your review.
Delighted that you have enjoyed your stays with us, and looking forward to welcoming you back.
Since you last stayed we have newly refurbished rooms, let's see if we can push those 8s up!

A charming and family friendly french hideaway, close to every essential amenity required yet set in a secluded well maintained garden - a real hidden treasure! We were travelling with two small children (5 & 3) who loved the open park side to the garden where they could run around and kick a ball without fear of damaging plants!
There is a beautiful outdoor dining area and separate seating area for Al fresco dining and late night star gazing. A fabulous house - will definitely be returning for a longer stay next time.
Thank you for your kind review. Delighted you and your family enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the house and garden!. We look forward to seeing you again.
