We had a lovely stay here in the Normandy countryside.
The gite is a small cottage with a lovely traditional feel set in beautiful grounds. It has fantastic period features such as log burner and wooden beams, but all the modern conveniences you would expect from a holiday home.
The property is well maintained and has everything we needed for our stay. Everything was very clean and tidy. Nice big bathroom with lovely shower. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking equipment and the cottage is well provided for.
The owners are absolutely lovely and made us feel very welcome our entire stay from their helpful advice before we arrived and their warm welcome and hospitality during our stay.
It is not overlooked at all, so it is perfect for peace, privacy and tranquility, but the owners are nearby if you need anything. They were extremely helpful and happy to share advice and tips on trips and local amenities.
The grounds are gorgeous - beautiful flowers and trees, birds singing, attractive setting for a relaxing break. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the table and chairs outside and admiring the scenery in the sunshine.
Location wise it is deep within the Normandy countryside, but a short drive from various villages and towns, so easy to get supplies. Perfect as a base for day trips to places like Mont St Michel, D Day beaches, St Malo, Bayeaux etc.
If you are looking for a restful break in a beautiful peaceful setting, look no further!
Thank you for your lovely comments. It was great to meet you both and good luck for the future!
We enjoyed a wonderful week staying at the beautiful La Herpiniere and seeing lots of the Normandy countryside.
The gite, with its stone walls and beamed ceilings, is very comfortable, peaceful and well equipped with everything you need from kitchen appliances to outdoor games equipment. Debbie and Robin were wonderful hosts, answering all our questions ahead of our stay, calling to see if we were OK when we got lost on the way and giving us a guided tour of the extensive grounds and their fruit and veg garden - our daughter loved feeding the fish in the pond and keeping an eye out for the bunnies roaming the grassy acres around the cottage in the mornings.
There is plenty to see and do in the area - we regularly visited the heated swimming pool in nearby Mortain before enjoying great value lunches at Hotel de la Poste and L'Abbaye Hotel.
The excellent weather meant we spent a few afternoons on the sandy beach at Jullouville and visited Mont-Saint-Michel, as well as joining the locals at the horse races at nearby Vire.
All in all our week at La Herpiniere was very relaxing and we would love to return.
Thank you for your comments. We hope to see you all again soon.
If you ever have the opportunity to get to know Robin & Debbie Howard, you will be able to appreciate their humour and generosity.
Their Gite is in one of the most beautiful areas of Normandy, La Herpiniere is situated in acres of manicured gardens with views over the grounds and hills in the distance. The Gite is top quality too, open beams in the bedrooms and lounge which has an enormous fire place, the kitchen is modern, as is the bathroom, and has every appliance you would need? I was lucky enough to spend the week there, It's so tranquil and quite but there is also plenty to do if you wish. You can simply enjoy a BBQ in the beautiful surroundings or fine dine at the local gastronomic restaurant (I highly recommend the €55 a la carte menu as it is an outstanding dining experience). Ia Herpiniere is also a great location for cycling around the country side and the local village of Sourdeval.
If you're looking for a slower change of pace, a bit of piece and quite or even laughter over a glass (well, bottle!) of wine with Rob & Deb, then drop them a line and book! You won't be disappointed, wether you stop a night during your journey or stay longer.
Thank you Michael. We look forward to seeing you again!
Beautiful country cottage set in stunning gardens in rolling countryside. Debbie and Robin are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble for them. There is a wealth of information on local attractions and a bbq, sun loungers, books, dvds and games if you just fancy relaxing! We would recommend to anyone!
