A monastery with years of history. The island has held strategic fortifications since ancient times and since the 8th century AD has been the seat of the monastery from which it draws its name. The structural composition of the town exemplifies the feudal society that constructed it: on top, God, the abbey and monastery; below, the great halls; then stores and housing; and at the bottom, outside the walls, houses for fishermen and farmers.
What an amazing place, really welcoming and helpful. Property was clean and well presented. The owners were great, really lovely would definitely go back! Nearby to Normandy beaches and local towns were interesting.
Would recommend a visit!
Thank you for your kind words Steven, Sorry about your return Journey!
Enjoy the rest of the summer and hopefully we will see you again in the future. many thanks and kind regards to you all.
We really enjoyed our 2-night stay at Le Bois Gautier. The property and grounds are beautifully decorated/renovated, clean and well maintained - your hard work has really paid off. It was great to have a full-stocked fridge and private courtyard, plus the freedom to use the pool. We all enjoyed time with the friendly dogs too. You were both on hand and extremely helpful when needed including advice for our trip to Mont St Michel and the lift to the local restaurant for our anniversary dinner. The property is in a lovely quiet setting and I can definitely see why people stay longer. Thanks for the great hospitality!

We had excellent communication with the owners during the booking process and throughout our stay. The welcome received when we arrived could not have been better.
The gite was fabulous. Exactly what we wanted. Very clean, spacious and inviting. Very French! Well equipped in all areas. The fridge was well stocked with food and drinks and there were plenty of towels/tea towels etc. Televisions available in the lounge and bedrooms with lots of channel choice and very good wifi connection.
The owners could not have done any more for us. Nothing was too much trouble and gave us a great insight in to local information. We were even taken to and picked up from a local restaurant so that we could have a drink! Awesome service.
On-site, there was a fantastic heated outdoor pool, petanque area, swingball, bikes and bbq facilities. There were also many seating areas both for own use as well as communal.
The area around the gite is very rural so a car is a must to get to local shops etc. There are plenty of places to visit such as St Hilaire, Fougeres, St Malo, Mont St Michel and Rennes. Markets in St Hilaire and Rennes are very good.
We cannot recommend this property enough. We are hoping to return soon!
With great thanks to a lovely couple.Great guests who we hope to see again. All the best Carol and Steve.Hope you enjoyed Rouen!
