We lived in Winchester a beautiful historic city and wanted a change for a more peaceful way of life in the countryside.
|Year property purchased||2015|
|Why this location?||Because its beautiful and tranquil in all seasons and has stunning views across the Valley de la Vire.|
|Unique benefits of property||We are just 5 minutes from the A84 motorway, so whether you are on route to your main holiday destination or spending time here at La Hiette we are perfectly located. We are a traditional Normandy farm house with three bedrooms that can sleep a total of 9 persons. We have a large garden where the children can run around and play and have several eating areas. We organically grow all our own salad, herbs and vegetables etc in the garden so if you choose to eat your evening meal here at La Hiette you can see where its been grown. We have two horses, a dog a cat and "very" free range chickens, so the children can collect the eggs in the morning and help feed the animals. As we live in a rural area there is plenty of walking to explore up in the hills directly from La Hiette.... whats not to love about being in the countryside!|
Our nearest town with lots of bars, restaurants and cafes, walk around the cobbled streets browse the unique little shops, visit the Bell Foundry and museums and the bakeries are a must for a French pastry!!
There are a number of markets in the area such as Villedieu les Poeles, St Lo and Granville, all within easy reach with typically local produce.
Just 45 minutes from La Hiette is miles of white sandy beaches, easy on get to, free parking, clear waters, clean beaches to play or just relax.
Only 20 mins from La Hiette is the Lake and the golf course. You can walk, run or cycle around the lake or paddle a canoe on it - it's about 6 km, or play a round of golf either way a great way to spend a day.
The American Cemetery, all the beaches, Pegasus Bridge, Arramanche, the Overlord Museum, Pointe du Hoc to name but a few and plenty of staff on hand should you need them.
If you don't have much time and have to choose your itinerary carefully then this location is a must. You cannot come to Normandy and not go. It's the second most visited tourist destination in France next to the Eiffel Tower. It will be busy but is extremely well organised so this is not a problem. Park your car in the car park (take a photo of the location, yes we forgot where we parked!!) get the bus to the island, walk or take a horse drawn carriage ride. Once there you can meander round the streets filled with little shops and restaurants or visit the Abbey. If you do then it's worth taking an official tour which is free as the guides are great and you will learn a lot more than you can read on the information which is only in French. Its a lovely way to spend a day with the family.
If you don't want to stray to far then just put on your walking boots and we can supply maps and directions for many local walks direct from La Hiette as long as you remember we are on a hill. The scenery is breathtaking whichever way you look there is something to see.
If you are an adrenaline junky than look no further than this place just 15 mins drive from La Hiette. There is a zip wire, swing, bungy jump and the luge, also a tree tops adventure area for both adults and children. There is a cafe/restaurant with both indoor and outdoor eating, but if that's all too much you can just walk in the woods.
If this is your area of interest then this is worth a visit. Its not far from us at La Hiette just about 25 mins drive. if was founded in 1145 and although there are some parts that are a ruin there is still plenty to see in this beautiful tranquil setting
If you love fashion and history then this is the place to go. The museum is situated in Granville in the house where Christian Dior lived, a beautiful pink house overlooking the sea. The fashions displayed there are magnificent. I did rush home to see if there were any Dior influences in my wardrobe.. alas no !!
Everyone has heard of it so definitely go and see it. It is the story of the conquest of England by William Duke of Normandy in 1066. With your ticket comes an audio guide so you can follow the story as you walk past the 70m tapestry. Once you have done the tapestry there are plenty of other things to do in Bayeux to make a day out and some very nice restaurants.
St Lo is just 25 mins from us at La Hiette. If you like anything to do with horses then this is the place to go. From local events to international show jumping, dressage and of course you cannot miss the horse ball. Check the diary of events on line so you don't miss out.
The Zoo at Champrepus is just 30 mins drive and you can spend a day there. The animals are exciting, the enclosures are kind to the animals and you can even get up close and personal with the lemurs. There is a great shop and restaurant and a bouncy castle and play areas for the kids, great day out.
