About this property

Farmhouse In Peaceful Rural Setting, By Pretty Town. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Les Buts is a charming farmhouse set in stunning Normandy countryside, but only a short drive or cycle to the pretty town of La Haye-du-Puits, with its plentiful amenities including supermarkets, boutiques, bakeries, butchers, banks, bars, antique shops, excellent restaurants and much more.

The house is perfectly located within 45 minutes of the ferry at Cherbourg and 1hr 15 from Caen, so ideal for a short break or holiday with small children and pets, as little travel is required once on the mainland.

The property is surrounded by beautiful coastline; from Saint-Germain-Sur-Ay and Barneville-Carteret to the West, to Utah and Omaha to the East.

There are wonderful woodland trails on the doorstep, such as Mont Castre only a few minutes away, which offers a circular walk, taking in some beautiful scenery and historical sites such as a Roman fort. There are lots of activities nearby to keep everyone entertained during your stay.

To the rear of the garden, there is a disused railway line that runs for miles; perfect for walking, cycling and adventuring with your dogs. You may be lucky enough to spot a resident roe deer amongst the foxgloves, as we did on a recent visit.

Kitchen and dining

Our spacious, traditional country farmhouse kitchen boasts ample dining and preparation space.
With all the mod-cons of home, including a new range cooker, microwave and dishwasher, why not try your hand at a spot of cordon-bleu?
A large wood burner really makes the kitchen the heart of the home, when enjoying a game and a few glasses of wine around the large farmhouse table.
We also cater for Al Fresco dining with our traditional French brick-built bbq and outdoor dining area. Why not enjoy the sunset with the sound of the church bells at nearby Lithaire?

Living rooms

The lounge is light and bright, with double aspect windows and a patio door leading to the back garden, allowing your furry friends to come and go as they please. It is comfortably furnished with a sofa and a variety of chairs.
No French farmhouse would be complete without a large wood burner, which keeps the whole house nice and cosy on those chilly Normandy evenings.
We offer Freesat TV with an in-built DVD player and Wi-Fi for days/nights at home. You’ll find a large selection of games, books and DVDs, suitable for all of the family.

Bedrooms

Comfortably sleeping 6, Les Buts is a fantastic base for exploring the many wonderful sights in Normandy.
With a private master en-suite above the kitchen and two further bedrooms (1 double / 1 twin) and family bathroom above the lounge, it allows for a wide variety of guests, particularly those who wish for a little more privacy during their stay.
All bedrooms are spacious, light and airy and have electric heaters.

Please note that although the farmhouse offers a downstairs WC, there are no downstairs bedrooms, so unfortunately the property is not suitable for those with limited mobility.

Bathrooms

There is an ensuite bathroom adjoining the private master kingsize bedroom and a further family bathroom serving the other two bedrooms. There is also a WC on the ground floor.

Heating

All main rooms have electric heaters and there are also two large wood burners, with logs supplied, so you will not be cold during your stay.

Entertainment

There is so much to see and do in the area, but if you need a day off from sightseeing, there are plenty of books, CDs, DVDs and games for all the family.

You will find a selection of outdoor games in the shed, for use during your stay or how about visiting the donkey next door with some apples and carrots? His name is Riggalo.

Garden and outside

The rear garden has a large patio which contains the bbq and lots of seating for Al Fresco dining and also gives access to the wood store and shed, where you will find a variety of outdoor games to entertain the kids during your stay.
Small steps lead up through the rockery into the garden, where you’ll find an abundance of wildlife in amongst the mature fruit trees and flowers. So breathe in the fresh Normandy air and try to spot our resident robin, finches, dancing butterflies, acrobatic red squirrels and swooping bats at dusk. Our only neighbour is Riggalo the donkey in the field next door who accepts any currency of apple for strokes!
Dogs will love exploring our garden and they are more than welcome to come and stay, however, we do ask that you ensure that you pick up after them please.

Parking and garages

Parking is at the front of the farmhouse, off-road with sufficient space for 2 cars.

Visitor suitability

Les Buts is suitable for a range of guests, including families with children, couples, friends and those traveling with pets.
The property is not suitable for those with limited mobility due to the bedrooms being located on the first floor.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr George Higgins

George visited Normandy as a boy with his school, which sparked a keen interest in military history. When he and Sophie met in 2014, he expressed his desire to own a house in France, so they began their search for the perfect property. They visited the area several times during the house hunt and knew they would like to move permanently one day.<br/>During a visit in 2017, they stayed at Les Buts as guests and luckily found out it had been on the market in the past - they just knew it was the one!

The Owner Recommends

Le Mont Saint-Michel

No visit to Normandy would be complete without at least seeing Mont Saint-Michel from below. It truly is a sight to behold. If you are not fit enough to climb to the top to explore the Abbey, there is plenty to do lower down, such as enjoying the many eateries within the walls or taking a walk out on to the marshes if the tide is out.
