10 / 10 John & Sheila 12 April, 2019

We spent a week in April 2019 as a family group (mature brother & sisters with partners).
Bouillante is an excellent property, extremely comfortable and well appointed.
The swimming pool is great - and yes we managed a swim on 1 April (aided by the fact it is heated). Pool towels and pool furniture are provided and excellent.
It was a very cold week but the gîte is efficiently heated.
The beds are comfortable and the addition of heaters in each bathroom were very much appreciated.
The close proximity to St James is a boon, for shops, bars and restaurants. Places to visit : Mont St Michel & Fougeres are both short rides away. St Malo, Dinan & Dinard all just over 1 hours drive.
The small town of Ducey, 20 minutes drive, is pretty and a good place for small shops and restaurants.
We made a couple of enquiries, via email, to the owner and received replies quickly. The owners were at the property when we arrived early, but they kindly allowed us to unpack food items and place them in the fridge/kitchen while the finished preparing the property.
It was good that our dog was welcome - he appreciated the warm spacious kitchen/dining room. The garden is spacious and he enjoyed mooching around (we did have to watch him though because the hedging is quite new and he could easily "escape" - not a criticism, just an observation because in time the hedge will mature and become secure.
An extremely enjoyable week and we all agreed that the property is the best we have stayed in.

8.8 / 10 Tedn 2 November, 2018

The property has been recently refurbished to a very high standard in general and was very comfortable (apart from the beds which we found firm, but that is obviously a personal opinion).
It is situated in a lovely rural area and there is little to do/see locally. In particular to eat out in the evening would involve a 20 mile round trip drive. That was fine for us as we enjoyed eating outside at the house, but worth pointing out to those who like to dine out at restaurants when on holiday. There is a very good SuperU in Saint James. We enjoyed using the facilities at the property very much (pool, pool table and table tennis).
There were some issues during our weeks stay. The cleaner was still at the property when we arrived (apparently due to prior guests) so the property was not fully prepared and ready for our arrival which was disappointing after a long hot journey. There were mice in the kitchen during our weeks stay due to the back door having a 2" hole/gap at the bottom and the kitchen bins of a style that do not have a lid. The owner dealt with the mouse issue promptly providing traps, but until the back door is fixed, this is likely to continue to be a problem. We could not drain the bath as the plug mechanism was not functioning.
Overall a great property but not in an area that we would choose to return to.

Owner response

Thank you your review and we are glad you liked the house. Regarding eating out, it's a shame you didn't try one of the 7 restaurants in St James just 2 miles away - 3 French, a pizzeria/grill, 2 brasseries and a Turkish. One of the reasons most people stay in our properties is the abundance of things to do in the area, from the historical - Mont St Michel, Fougères with the largest walled castle in Europe and St Malo with its walled city and thousand year history. Bayeux with its famous tapestry and the WW2 landing beaches are only 90 minutes away and an easy day trip; the beautiful beaches and beach towns - Dinard, Cancale with its famous oyster banks and seafood restaurants and Granville. Rennes, the university city is only 40 minutes away and there are numerous zoos, animal parks, kids amusement parks only a short drive away. You can also walk, cycle, fish, play golf in close proximity. Thanks for pointing out the mouse problem, this has now been resolved and apologies that you had to wait half an hour for our cleaners to finish, but we pride ourselves in providing high quality accommodation with a high level of cleanliness. This is sometimes hard to achieve when we have an issue and this is something you should appreciate having allowed your dogs to swim in the pool on multiple occasions (could have caused huge damage to the liner) and sleep in the bedrooms despite me specifically asking them not to. This made preparing for the guests after you very challenging as well
