Year property purchased 2015
Why this location? We came to this region on various occasions on holiday. We liked the pace of life and the simplicity of day to day living and decided to jump in and have an adventure. The beauty of the area was another positive factor in promoting the Normandy region. The local French people are very friendly and welcoming. The local markets selling local produce and general buzz of village life is quaint and and traditional.<br/>The house is set amongst the rolling countryside within a tiny hamlet and is very peaceful and serene. Offering that get away from it all atmosphere. However there are big towns about 30 minutes away if one finds country life to quiet.
Unique benefits of property The property offers a peaceful get away from it all atmosphere. The large garden looking out over rolling French countryside is very therapeutic and relaxing. There are area's on the property offering sun and shade and the garden is big enough to get away and be on your own. The heated swimming pool offers a refreshing dip when the heat gets too much. A lovely house with a fabulous garden and pool. Plenty of room for 4 boisterous boys. Owners were friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. We enjoyed eating in the shady areas of the garden. We were blessed with great weather, if a little too hot! Lots to explore in the local area. We were left feeling we'd love to come back and explore some more.

8.7 / 10 TheAkals 31 August, 2016

The property is located in a beautiful and peaceful area. The farmhouse and garden are excellent for a family or families to relax and enjoy. The 300 year old building had been tastefully updated and furnished to keep the traditional feel but with modern facilities. We really relaxed here and found it spacious and comfortable. There were plenty of games and DVDs to enjoy on an evening which made for good fun after a day out or by the pool. We enjoyed the large outside pool but found it very cold, despite it being advertised as heated. It was a surprise to find the owners lived on site as this was not clear from the advertising but we found Gary and Pip to be warm, friendly, helpful and respectful of our privacy. They provided some really helpful tips on places to visit and were responsive to issues we had when the gas cooker and Internet stopped working. Overall, the property is ideal as a base to explore Normandy and spend time relaxing in. We would recommend either one or two families choosing La Drutiere. We visited many places around Normandy and even a day trip to Paris and Mont St. Michel.

Owner response

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review on your stay with us and we are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time at our Farmhouse in La Drutiere and the facilities which are provided. It was so good to see you and your family getting out and about so much and enjoying all the wonderful sites Normandy has to offer. We truly fell in love with the area when we came out here for the first time last June and took over the Gite business in October. We are doing our up-most to ensure our guests enjoy their stay at La Drutiere and are therefore hugely disappointed to hear, that one of our rooms could perhaps have been cleaned better; we would have returned to that room and cleaned away any fresh cobwebs which may have been lurking, if we had been aware of the problem. It really is so difficult in a very old property with beams to keep it totally clear of cobwebs, they really are the bane of our lives :-) you literally can clean them away and 24 hours later they re-appear.With regards to the swimming pool, we are so sorry that you felt that it was too cold, if we had known, again we could have rectified the situation and increased the temperature; it generally hovers in the region of 24 - 25 degrees which previous guests had said was ok but we do appreciate that this may not suit everyone. This is our first season and we very much appreciate your comments and will act upon them.Thank you for being such a lovely family to host and we hope to see you again one day.
