|Why this location?||We had to make our move to France work for us and Normandy is always a favourite holiday destination. It offers so much in terms of lifestyle and holidays and yet is still close enough to family in the UK should we need to return quickly. Summers are pleasantly warm without being too scorching hot and the winters are mild. Most of our guests visit in the summer but spring and autumn are also great times to visit as the weather can often be very good. There is so much to see and experience in this part of France that you will always leave wanting to come back. Beautiful towns, countryside and restaurants - where would France be without its restaurants? A great place for a holiday as well as to live.|
|Unique benefits of property||All three of our gites are located in a beautiful rural context but yet close to all amenities and tourist attractions. The roads are very quite and ideal for walks and cycle rides on our selection of bicycles which we offer free of charge. We are always on hand to help with your holiday but never intrude. If you prefer to be left to your own devices, you will hardly know we are there but if you need help and advice, we are happy to help.|
This elegant spa town is renowned for its waters (Les Thermes). It is also a gastronomic centre and has at least 16 restaurants listed on TripAdvisor along with many activities throughout the summer. Enjoy your lunch then walk around the lake, past the casino and up to the Hotel de Ville (town hall) which is a converted chateau in beautiful grounds. There are also walks through the woods at the edge of the town ideal for wildlife and bird watching. Try the velorail which uses the old railway line running from Bagnoles to Briouze - great fun for the kids – have a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f5RWM4EaIg
The Javron to Mayenne Voie Verte is the old railway line between the two towns. Many old railway lines have been converted into "Voies Vertes" or cycle routes which can be enjoyed with the safety of not having to go on the roads. This véloroute (as it is called) has just had large sections resurfaced and the whole route is easily navigable. As it is an old railway line, there are no steep gradients so can easily be tackled by all family members. Further information can be obtained from the following link http://www.laval-tourisme.com/files/ot-laval/files/voies-vertes-mayenne-2009.pdf
Lassay-les-Chateaux is a beautiful town about 11km from the gites and has just about one of the best preserved medieval chateaux in the whole of France. The town prides itself on being one of France's "Cités de Caractère" and has a delightful rose garden. A great place to enjoy an impromtu picnic or you can sample one of the bars or restaurants in the town centre.
About an hour and a half away, a great day out especially if it is around the Le Mans 24 hours. For 2015 this will be on 13th and 14th June. Outside of the racing season the motor museum at the circuit is well worth a visit and afterwards you can visit the Cathedral of St. Julien, the old city and enjoy a coffee in one of the squares near the cathedral.
About an hour and a half away due west, Mont St. Michel is one of France’s greatest tourist attractions. Visit the abbey, dedicated to the Archangel, St. Michael and the various museums. Advisable to set off early as it is host to around 3 million visitors per year. As the name would suggest, it is a mount and is not pushchair or wheelchair friendly.
A great day out is a visit to the Normandy Landing Beaches. If you want to make a day of it, you can start with a visit to Pegasus Bridge. Then travel west along the coast taking in Sword, Juno and finally Gold beaches. This will take you to Arromanches, site of the famous Mulberry B Harbour. There are museums at both Pegasus Bridge and Arromanches which are well worth a visit. Finally, travel down to nearby Bayeux and visit the Bayeux Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery which should be a fitting finale to your day out.
Le Pommier is a beautiful, well appointed gite in a stunning location. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, with lots of character and exposed beams.
Set in beautiful grounds, there is lots of space for children to play and the pool was a nice addition.
The gite has its own veranda with a built-in barbeque, with table and chairs to enjoy eating al-fresco.
The area is very rural and the roads are perfect for cycling, using the great range of bikes provided.
George and Yvette were wonderful hosts - not too intrusive but always on hand if you needed and help, or advice on where to visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Very pleased that you enjoyed your stay here with us and many thanks for a great review. It was good to see you all enjoying the location and facilities and of course making the most of the new dishwasher!
We stayed at Le Pommier for one week in August and it was our best holiday to date.
We have two young children who really enjoyed the large garden and the lovely swimming pool.
The gite is in an ideal location and we got out and about each day to see the local sights.
George and Yvette are wonderful hosts who were able to give us tips on places to go and things to do. The gite was very spacious and clean and therefore perfect for a family with children.
Very pleased to hear that this was "your best holiday to date" and that it was in one of our gites. It is always gratifying to see people enjoying themselves in the garden and swimming pool and if you ever want to come again, you would be very welcome. Many thanks for this excellent review.
We stayed in August 2015 and were very lucky with the weather while there. The gite was large and comfortable with the garden, pool and meadows beyond as immediate positives. The owners were welcoming and helpful and having them on site was reassuring. While there we visited and enjoyed Domfront as well as the local town of Bagnoles. We ate out in both towns and didn't have a bad meal once. We ventured further to see Mont St Michel, which was very busy, and a theme park near Caen called Festyland which our older children enjoyed. The queues weren't too long and there were a few rides to keep the teenagers happy. Jublain's roman ruins were also very impressive. We would happily recommend a visit here. Thank you.
Many thanks for a lovely review. Very nice to have had you all here and really pleased you enjoyed your stay. We hope to see you again some time.
This was our second visit to this property and once again, we had a great time.
The owners are extremely friendly and helpful and the property itself is well equipped and maintained.
There are lots of things to do locally and further afield, we would recommend Bagnoles - the Velorail is an interesting and fun way to spend an hour, Domfront, the chateau at Carrouges and for somewhere to eat, the Bar at Jouvigny-Sous-Andaines does an excellent lunch.
So, all in all, and excellent property with charming and helpful hosts in a lovely part of France - what more could you ask for!!
Many thanks for the review and really pleased you enjoyed coming here again. Always a pleasure to have you all here and hope to see you again.
