Just a 90 minute drive from the ferry port of Caen takes you through the beautiful Normandy countryside to the lively and historic town of Domfront.  
Situated right in the heart of Domfront in the main square you will find Gite St Julien is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday soaking up the history of the area.

Formerly a café dating back to the late 1800's the property has recently undergone total restoration that has retained much of the character of this wonderful building. Offering luxury 3 bedroom accommodation you can soak up the atmosphere of this lovely old town. There are numerous bars and restaurants on your doorstep offering quality French fare. Within a few minutes walk you can discover the chateau where Henry II of England regularly visited with his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Normandy is a very "family friendly" region of France with many activities to please the whole family. Nearby are a range of activities to fill those days and please the young members of the family. Within less than an hours drive you will find zoos, theme parks, historic buildings, D-Day beaches, cycling and water sports. For more details click on our website.

Just an hour away is the magnificent Mont St Michel a "must" for anyone visiting Normandy. For those interested in recent history the D-Day landing beaches are an interesting day trip. Throughout the property there are electric heaters making the property nice and cosy in the colder months. In the living area there is a woodburner for additional heating.
The Gite is perfect for trips in the colder months as well as summer time.

We acquired Gite St Julien in 2016 as we fell in love with Domfront it has so much history and the relaxed atmosphere is great for chilled out holidays.

D-Day Beaches

For those interested in recent history a visit to the beaches of Normandy is a must. Learn more about the invasion of June 1944 through the various museums, pay tribute to those brave men and women who lost their lives liberating France initially and then all of Europe from the grip of the Nazi's at the various cemeteries dotted throughout the area.

Mont St Michel

A "must see" for any visitor to this part of Normandy is the imposing Mont St Michel. This UNESCO listed site attracts visitors from all around the world. Situated on a rock put a rock in the bay atop of which is the Abbey of St Michel. The winding street to the abbey entrance is charming and there is much to discover about this historic location.

Medieval Festival Domfront 3/4 August 2019

Gite St Julien is set right in the heart of the historic area of Domfront and in early August every 2 years the town holds its magnificent Medieval festival. In the town is a medieval market with all sorts of unusual gifts available. In the castle grounds you will find encampments of re-enactors with Knights parading through the town minstrels serenading. All the local residents are in medieval dress and you are transported back a thousand years. In the castle grounds there is a tournament where you will find sword fighting and knights on horseback jousting. To further immerse yourself in the medieval theme there is a full banquet on the Saturday evening with authentic music. This is truly a wonderful event which attracts people from far and wide.

Chateau Falaise

The birthplace of William the Conqueror this is a castle with connections to 1066 and is a fascinating place to visit. The castle is presented in a unique way with each room themed, by using the audio guide included in the visit fee you get the story of the castle and the people who lived there.

Great value restaurant where you can have a fixed menu meal for 22 euros. If you want to splash out they offer amazing menu choices situated less than 5 minutes walk away.

Bistro St Julien

Perfectly situated just across Place St Julien you can just sit in the sun and enjoy breakfast or experience the lunch time menu for just 12.50 euros the meals are excellent. Also open in the evenings.

Bar Au Normand

Lovely typically French bar/café less than 100 metres away. Situated just in front of the parish church and is the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by.
