Celia and I have had a love affair with France for the last 30 years, enjoying everything about it - the food, countryside, people and lifestyle. We love going to the local vide grenier's and finding lots of treasures for our Brittany home
A major golf course is 20 minutes away just outside of Dieppe.
The D-day beaches and the Bayeaux tapestry are within driving distance.
Rouen and visit Joan of Arc memorial and lovely art galleries, and Dieppe are musts to visit as well as Monets house at Giverney, the beautiful resort and glorious sands of Deauville with its International film festival.
We were met upon arrival by Brian & Celia who immediately made us feel welcome & gave us a tour of their beautiful cottage which was situated in a large private garden area surrounded by trees and countryside & where we found ourselves becoming avid bird watchers as the week progressed.
The cottage is immaculate yet extremely homely & contains wonderful objets d’art. Every day we found something new to look at & admire. Brian and Celia have exquisite taste and have successfully mixed the old & the new in perfect harmony.
The main bedroom has its own terrace area & its a lovely treat to sit out & enjoy a coffee in the morning listening to the birds singing. There are a further 2 bedrooms which are comfortable & spotless.
The kitchen is stocked full of crockery, cutlery and glassware & there is a BBQ outside on the main patio & a table & chairs for 6 which overlooks the beautiful garden area.
The nearby village of Bacqueville en Caux is charming, the locals are extremely friendly & displayed endless patience with my schoolgirl French! The pretty port of Dieppe is approximately 30 mins away & there are small hamlets & towns dotted all around the area. We'd planned to sightsee a lot more than we actually got around but were so comfortable and relaxed at the cottage it was hard to leave! Maybe next time we will venture further.
We'd highly recommend a stay here and would love to return
For now, back at work in the noisy city, Rose Cottage remains a beautiful memory.
Having 2 children aged 5 and 10 we wanted somewhere with a homely base, lots of things to do and explore in Normandy. We chose Rose Cottage as it looked so charming and within easy reach of beach and towns. We were so glad we did. We couldn't believe the short easy journey from the ferry port to the cottage. as we pulled into the large driiveway we discovered the most beautiful French cottage. On entering the children hastily wandered around discovering rooms and choosing their beds (next to the T.V area so they could relax in the evenings after a busy day at the beach). I made a beeline for the kitchen and the kettle discovering that it was kitted out with absolutely everything you could need.
We decided to go and explore the area and find the beach. According to the sat nav there was one not far away. We found it after a 15 min drive through beautiful French countryside, parked up and took the short walk down the steps to the sea. It was stunning! Miles of sandy beach with large rocks and rock pools for the kids to climb on and look for crabs and other rock pool creatures! During the holiday the beach was the firm favourite, however, I adored the local towns with markets, boutique shops, restaurants and of course the all important boulangerie and patisserie!
The cottage was ideal for us and very spacious. The beds were incredibly comfortable and everyone slept really well. In fact it was difficult to get up!
One evening we decided to light 1 of the wood burning stoves after coming in from being outside having our BBQ. Everything was there that we needed down to the paper and firelighters. We couldn't believe the heat!
We are actually considering booking the cottage in the winter for a break with friends and kids. We may even take our dog Buster! I would thoroughly recommend this cottage for a holiday. The owners were delightful to deal with and it was so well equipped. Although you would need a car or bikes to get around on unless you were a walker. Finally, directions were easy to follow and everything about the cottage was exactly as it says on the tin!! Happy booking!
