I spend my time between the UK and France and always when in France the feeling of peace, tranquility, and a recharge of vitality ....being closer to very beautiful natural surroundings is far from the `madding crowd`.

|Year property purchased||2003|
|Why this location?||It is a unique, beautiful location, for everyone who loves all things natural to enjoy. Trees, water, and abundance of wildlife.|
|Unique benefits of property||Like no other, with the views over the ever changing waters of the lake in different weather and seasons, always fascinating.......and all from the comfort of an armchair.|
In this area are ancient towns and villages with wonderfully colourful markets .... steeped in history. Chateaux, abbeys, arboretums and gardens to visit. Adventure park and zoo. Traditional fetes and concerts all contribute to this lovely region.
A paradise for walkers, fisherman and lovers of the countryside. Educational forest walks, and in the summer, horse-drawn carriage rides.
At the St.Bonnet Troncais large lake, on 15th August each year there is a magnificent firework display on the lake. It is all free and a great evening entertainment which draws all the locals and tourists alike to watch. It generally involves taking a picnic, securing a good vantage point on the lakeside and wait for darkness. Well worth the wait.
Also in September, people will come from miles distance to the forest to listen to the 'Stags' in the rutting season. (festival, `Brame ) The sounds of their calling to females echoes and reverberates in the primeval habits of time.
The Forest of Troncais is situated to the north west of the department of Allier, in the Auvergne region of Central France. It extends over almost 11,000 hectares, between the rivers of 'l'Allier ' to the east and the river 'Cher' to the west, on a plateau with the plains of the Berry to the north and the foothills of the 'Massif Central' to the south.
The property is situated in the hamlet of 'Troncais', which is a focal point of this vast forest, due to its association with the historically ancient Forge which produced the steelwork for the renowned 'Eiffel Tour'. Within a few minutes walk you will find an excellent, cafe, bar and restaurant.
In the same time by car, reach all amenities in either St. Bonnet Troncais, Ainay-le-Chateau, or Cerilly. Take a day trip of easy driving to the volcanic region of the 'Massif Central' or visit one of the many 'Spa' towns of the area.
The venue was excellent, good fishing, great location, Angie & John was the perfect host, lovely couple will definitely be going back. Would definitely recommend it.
Thank you, is always rewarding to have contented guests .Malcom certainly caught some lovely fish. Would love to see you both again. Hope you enjoyed your onward holiday.
This property is in the most heavenly setting and was as advertised. The house was extremely cleaned and well maintained and had everything you would need. The owner was very helpful and accomodating and a pleasure to deal with. This is a perfect place if you enjoy fishing , walking and generally chilling. Great walking and biking in all the forest area. It's not hilly or mountainous. There is a very nice restaurant within walking distance and a small hotel. The supermarkets are 5min drive away and a lovely lakes for swimming all around. There is nothing I disliked about the area.
Thank you both very much and we are glad you enjoyed the stay. The coypu have appeared again to the following guests.
Hope we will see you again sometime.
Beautiful location overlooking tranquil lake, set at the edge of Troncais forest.
English hosts very helpful & friendly.
Thank you very much was lovely to see you again ,sorry that the fish weren`t so obliging this time ,probably too hot for them also.
This unpretentious, large and airy lakeside apartment is comfortably furnished in traditional French style and is situated in the very heart of the Troncais forest. Despite the remote location, it is readily accessible by good metalled roads with restaurants within walking distance and supermarkets only a few miles away by car. The local lakes are popular with anglers and the apartment is an ideal fishing base, a permit is required. As a retired couple we stayed 4 weeks at the property in June/July 2016 with the aim of relaxing, enjoying the rural ambience and exploring the local villages. We were not disappointed.
We particularly enjoyed the stunning views across the lake with its ever changing reflections and colours. We spent hours, with binoculars to hand, as the resident family of herons fished in the shallows, swallows swirled above and the many woodland birds and butterflies flittered along the bankside. Large carp came to snuffle along the shallows below the balcony and every evening a family of copyu criss-crossed the lake as they foraged. We also enjoyed walking along the numerous rough forestry tracks and waymarked woodland paths though we met scarsely another soul along them in our entire stay.
Our English hosts, John and Angie, were particularly welcoming and friendly and went out of their way to involve us in local events.
Thanks for your kind comments , a pleasure to meet you both.
