|Le Tilleuil||Self Catering||Saturday||2||5||2|
Awarded 3 stars by the Charente Tourist Board, Le Tilleuil is a pretty well appointed gite. It is one half of our 18th century farmhouse set in a small hamlet on the Charente/Dordogne border. The gite has 2 large en-suite bedrooms - one with a double bed and the other a double and single bed, plus a large lounge/kitchen, pool and private terrace.
We are in the heart of beautiful forested countryside with gentle rolling hillsides on the edge of the Perigord Vert. It is a peaceful rural area with rivers and lakes for canoeing, boating and fishing. Visit the weekly markets in nearby Brantome, Piegut or Riberac where you can meander and buy fresh produce and local specialities and then rest in a bar or café to sit and watch the world go by. For walkers, there are numerous quiet lanes, a nearby arboretum and woodlands with tracks. The local Tourist Offices have maps of the many signed walks and rambles through the lovely countryside and we keep a few at the house. There are concerts, fetes and brocantes all summer.
Short breaks available outside of mid-June to mid-September. Also certified by the local tourist office for chambres d'hotes - just enquire.
The kitchen has gas cooker and everything you need for your holiday. Washing machine, iron/ironing board, picnic box, etc are stored in the utility room. The dining table seats 5 comfortably. Highchair for babies.
Two large comfy sofas, chair, coffee and side tables, tv, dvd/cd player, dvds, books and games.
One bedroom has a double and single bed, the other a double bed, bedside tables, wardrobe and dressing table. One cot available free of charge. Bed linen is provided.
Each bedroom has en suite shower room with toilet. Bath towels are provided.
Gas central heating for winter.
Tv, dvd and cd players. Good selection of dvds, cds, books and games, some outside games stored in the utility room.
The gite has its own private terrace with bbq, table, chairs and loungers in the garden. There is decking round the above ground pool so that parents can keep an eye on the children or sit and take the last rays as the sun goes down. The owners use the pool occasionally late evenings.
The gite has its own parking area for 2 cars.
There are steps into the gite and the bedrooms are upstairs so not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. There is a low beam in the back bedroom.
The gite has a separate entrance on the opposite side of the farmhouse from the owners, your own terrace, parking so you are quite separate and private.
Mid week bookings can be taken outside of mid-June to mid-September.
Cleaning - please ask if you require a cleaning service for which there will be a charge. Le Tilleuil is checked between each let to ensure it has been left clean and tidy for the next occupants.

A perfectly located and peaceful hideaway! All amenities and services available with onsite owners Penne and Tony very happy to assist with all manner if things - including ensuring we got to see all of the local sights and enjoy the many great restaurants in the region. We had a family wedding nearby and could not have been happier with our choice of accommodation. Not sure when but we would love to return and spend a little more time exploring the region. Highly recommended - all the way from 'Down Under'.
Thank you for your kind review. It was a pleasure to have you as our guests and we look forward to seeing you again should you visit our lovely part of France.
Pene & Tony
Lovely well equipped gite Ina a great location for walks and local attractions. Pene and Tony were helpful with good recommendations for places to visit and eat. Enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing week and hope to visit again.
Thank you. Glad you had a great holiday and enjoyed the beautiful countryside that surrounds us. We look forward to seeing you again.
A beautiful location, a sympathetic restoration has been carried out on the Gite .
Clean and well maintained property.
Great facilities, everything you could need and more, comfortable, 2 good bathrooms and a good kitchen.
The owners Pene and Tony are fantastic hosts, their knowledge of the area is good, on hand for any difficulty or requirement, but will also leave you in complete peace if required. They make the difference between a good break and a fabulous holiday.
Good restaurant a 10 minute walk or real fine dining (Michelin star rated) in Brantome only 20 minutes away.
A great base if you want to just relax or tour the whole of Charente/Dordogne and Bordeaux.
This is our second time here in 2 years and we are already looking to return later this year.
Thank you for your kind comments. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Comfortable, welcoming, well equipped, good location.
Not really a bad point as such but it would have been good to have a bar in the nearest village (Combiers) for an early eveing walk and a beer. But for a week's stay I managed to survive!
