The Owner Recommends

The capital of the Charente is just under 40 minutes by car. It has numerous festivals and a lovely food market that gives way to spectacular views of the countryside. Take a walk on the ramparts, visit one of its museums or take a river cruise.

Atlantic Coast

Visit the spectacular port of La Rochelle and dine on fresh seafood in one of the plethora of restaurants overlooking the spectacular harbour with its gated entrance that once served to keep intruders at bay. There are also nearby beaches and the seaside resort of Royan all just under 1.5 hours drive away.

Canoe, Kayaking and Bathing

Next to the nearby town of Ruffec, the Rejallant canoe and kayak centre is open every weekend in May and June and every day in July and August. You can also swim/paddle in the river or eat in the picnic area or dine on the sunny restaurant terrace. There is also a canoe centre and riverside restaurant terrace in Mansle.

An exciting all-year round city and interesting cultural program. Stroll along the quays and in the pedestrian area by the market. Take a guided tour of one of the cognac houses and sample the ‘nectar of the Gods’ or try the sweeter aperitif ‘Pineau des Charentes’. Only 1 hours drive away.

Visit this beautiful city with its famous timber framed houses and have a café on the market square.
